I have been coming to Avalon (Xenon prior) for over 2 decades now and I am always pleased with the…read morecaliber of students they have. Yes, there are an array of personalities ranging from more introverted to more extroverted. I have recognized that when I note that I'm donating hair, they will pair me up with a more confident student. What I mean is that for the newer students or for those who are not quite confident in their skills, a trim gives them practice that can build their confidence. But when you are donating 12" and choose a choppy A-line as your inspiration, it's definitely NOT textbook, so I feel like this would overwhelm someone who is still learning the basics. Last night, I went in to donate 12" and Noelia was so amazing!! She listened to what I wanted and asked her instructor if what she was thinking was how it should be done. When Noelia became stumped, she asked her instructors for guidance and intently watched them and learned new techniques. I even heard one of the instructors say "Well, this is one of those times where we bend that hair rule." My hair looks amazing and when I asked Noelia how to style it like my inspo pic, she was patient and explained in detail how to attain the look. She not only is a bright student who can learn, retain, and execute what she learned, but she can also teach back, which is the best demonstration of how wonderful of a student she is. Shout out to the instructors too who are patient and also allow the students to not fear asking questions or for guidance. They are really cultivating wonderful hair artists. And.. if you're lucky enough that an instructor decides to have a creative streak adding finishing touches to your hair, you get to see a hair master with scissors. I am amazed at not only the talent, but the speed in how they accomplish it.

This was my first visit. I booked an appointment for a haircut. I waited under 5 minutes. The place…read moreis busy but the vibe is nice. $12 got me a shampoo, haircut, and blow dry. It has been a while since I've been able to do any self-care because things are so expensive. I was incredibly pleased with the quality of the service and the entirety of the experience.

The lessons are OK. The instructors are hit and miss. One didn't even seem interested, was just getting through the hour. The web site is deceptive. For instance, #5 of the "12 benefits" says "A comfortable waiting room for parents" and has a photo of a large room with big windows and leather couches, giving the impression that the photo is the waiting room. It is not. In fact, the room pictured is not anywhere at their facility. I don't know where it is but it's not at Parker Music Academy. On the web site, the photo by #3 and #6 shows a lovely outdoor amphitheater with people playing instruments. This photo is also not anywhere at Parker Music Academy. Maybe they posed some students in another town? I'm not sure. But, their actual facility is an old house that has been converted. The "waiting room" is a VERY small foyer with an old, broken-down sofa. Looks like the front room in your weird 70 year old aunt's house. The facilities are totally misrepresented on the web site. Their waiting room is not large or comfortable by any means. If more than 3 or 4 parents are waiting, someone must stand. As far as the 5 acres of space, maybe they own 5 acres but all I've ever seen was the old house and a gravel driveway with mud holes. There is no space for playing music outdoors. As far as the "Observation windows" talked about in #5, I don't know what they're talking about. When I read that, I thought there would be windows from the waiting room into the lesson rooms so waiting parents could watch. No such thing. The lesson rooms are small rooms with regular house windows to outdoors. I suppose one could walk around the outside of the house in the weeds and look into the rooms like a peeping-Tom, but I've never seen anyone do that. The photos on the web site by #2 (indoor) and #7 and #12 (outdoor) are also not anywhere near their facility. They were taken somewhere else, somewhere much nicer than their facility. If they are going to post photos on a web site that brags about their facilities, the photos should actually show the facilities rather than some other, random location. The web site also says "Conveniently located" in Parker and "Central location." Well, not exactly. They're quite a ways out a gravel road, not anywhere near the center of town. To be fair, the location is not terrible. It doesn't take long to get there. But, it's not as if it's on Main St. or Parker Rd. or any other paved road in town. In summary, the lessons are OK. They do offer many days/times to fit just about any schedule. But, their web site does NOT give an accurate impression of their facilities, not even close.
