You can spend a lot of time looking up and down with so many sights to see. Many options to sit and prey. As a foreigner this is on our list of locations to see.

The View from the top of St Peters looking towards the square

A few minutes ago I noticed a Yelp friend had posted a St Peters picture. Instantly I remembered what a once in a lifetime experience I had there. Then, looking for my own review from 2016 I noticed, it was missing. I can't believe how many times this has happened to me. Very frustrating. So,I will not and can't reproduce that great review I posted here in 2016. So I'll take this opportunity to add a pro tip or two when visiting St Peters. Be sure you go to the very top! It's quite an experience that is ,more than the sum of its parts. Also,to get there is not " advertised" and takes some research. If you're not careful, you will be distracted, understandably, by the surreal experience of just being there. Taking an elevator, you exit on a catwalk high above St Peters floor. This view alone is worth the trip but, don't stop now. Taking the secret "stairway to heaven", you wind up and up in circular fashion literally inside the dome on stairs designed by Michelangelo! You will think about this on your way up and just how high you are from the floor. So exciting. You exit onto a roof, concrete, and walk across for your final accent to to top of St Peters and a priceless views. Don't rush. Take in the distant views of this great city. As you're looking out realize others have enjoyed this view for 500 years.

St. Peter's Basilica hushes me. My personality is 98% commentary and somehow this spot in the world says shut up and mind your ps and qs. The scale of this church is insane. You pass through the Holy Door, which only opens during Jubilee years! So since I'm a VIP today (wink), I rushed the Michelangelo's Pieta! Fun fact: the dome is the tallest in the world.

When in rome, this is an absolute must-see. Get your tickets ahead of time to skip the very long line. If not, you could be waiting a couple of hours just to get in. I have visited this place on other trips to Rome, but each time that I've seen it, it takes my breath away. Everywhere you look there is something incredible to see.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen

In my three weeks traveling all around Italy I've seen many wonderful things, but nothing comes close to Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome! The sheer scale and majesty of it is awe-inspiring. The heights of human creativity, engineering, and craftsmanship I witnessed here will stay with me forever. Entrance to the main Basilica is free of charge. I recommend showing up early in the morning when they first open at 8 AM. From there, you can elect to climb up to the very top of the dome formere €10. And the view is simply priceless! Admission to other museums cost money and should be booked ahead of time. Make sure you don't miss St, Peter's Basilica if you are in Rome! Seeing it was a top ten experience of my life so far.

When visiting room definitely come here to visit Saint peters. That only is this the place where the pope lives, but also Temple of Saint Peter is here as well. I would recommend booking a tour so you can know the history. However, just know that booking a tour won't let you cut the line. You can also request tickets for an audience to see the pope. Just check online. One of the most beautifulplaces coming to Rome.

We came here right after going to the Vatican. The line was extremely long and it didn't seem like it was well organized. Lots of people cutting. Took over an hour to get in. It was well worth the wait. Lots of beautiful paintings, sculptures, and history. Must see ifyou are in Rome. I would suggest going into the catacombs as well. Ask security where the entrance is. It is free to get in. However, you can pay to go to the top of the basilica. There are lots of steps which are narrow and winding. You can stop and look down on the church. You can also go to the top and see Rome. Beautiful views and a very cool experience. I don't remember if there was an elevator option. If so, it was a few Euro more.

To get into the basilica is free but you do have to wait in line. I waited about 45 minutes before going inside. If you can, climbing up the dome shows you some beautiful views of the city but it's a bit cramped - if you're claustrophobic, the stairs going up as well can feel a bit tight. Halfway up, there is a gorgeous walkthrough - took a 15 minute break here to admire the architecture. There are catacombs you can see. It's a huge basilica so it's worth spending a few hours here. Just a reminder to bring a shawl or something to cover up your shoulders, stomach and definitely wear pants or you won't be allowed entry.

St. Peter's Basicila is one of the most famous churches in the world that we definitely had to make time for during our trip to visit! It's located in Vatican City, free access for all. Truly a beautiful site that you cannot miss when in Rome. No passport needed either. They do have a dress code and security line to check your bags. Dress code: cannot wear anything that reveals shoulders, knees, no hats, and no flip flops. They do have blue scarves if you are wearing tops that reveal shoulders or if your bottoms are shorter than knee length, you can tie. It's great to see the history inside the church & there are praying rooms in here as well, if you'd like to pray. Gift shop is located on the outside as well as a beautiful water fountain, lovely for pictures.

What can you say that hasn't already been said about this church? It is the largest church in the world. They say it can hold up to 60,000 people. Besides its size, its grandeur is absolutely spectacular. When you first walk inside your jaw drops. Pictures don't do it justice. It is an incredible treasure that is on this earth and whether you are Catholic or not, religious or not and simply a human being and coming to Rome this is worth your time. The paintings and statues inside are massive and beautiful. The ceiling is ornamental and yet for all of its massive size you can still feel a connection. Oh yes, I forgot. It's free. Tips: You have to go thru security to go into the church. The line gets longer during the day so either come early (by 8 am) or come late (after 4 pm) and you will wait far less. There is no security to go into St. Peter's Square just the church. The exception to this is on Wednesday mornings when the Pope has his weekly audience and drives around the Square in his Popemobile. Then everyone goes thru security. And the church is closed then so consider this if you only want to visit the church. There is no time limit inside. I think it closes in the evening at 7 pm. That is your only time limitation. While inside you can visit the Treasury museum which has a small gift shop. Other gift shops are outside on the periphery of the Square including the Vatican post office. Restrooms are outside. Picture taking is allowed.

Another place that I can't imagine anyone seriously giving a bad review for. It's St. Peter's Basilica. The history, the tombs, the artistry, the significance, the beauty, and the organization of this basilica blow most places in Rome out of the water. Plan a day to visit and enjoy!

Of course you have to visit St.Peter's, the Vatican Museum, and the Sistine Chapel while you are in Rome! In all actuality, how can you say that you actually visited Rome, without a visit here. I highly recommend booking a small group tour through Viator, with an actual archaeologist! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, and easily navigated us around the large crowd that was there. I highly recommend a visit. You should visit, if only to see the crowds spellbound by the Sistine Chapel, as if to say, I can't believe that I'm here.

Over an hour, waiting in line with prepaid tickets. Horrific line management and exceptionally rude staff. Avoided at all costs.

Most beautiful cathedral I the world. It is amazing how they built this structure 500 or more years ago. Once in a lifetime experience.

The rooms, however, were pretty mediocre. The room was strangely decorated with a green spongy floor, cork walls, pink tiles, and random hooks all over. The bathroom was extremely cramped with a bidet in front of the toilet, so there was no toilet paper holder, so they had to put it on an extremely high shelf. The light switches were oddly placed puzzles and the lights were very dim. There were lights above our bed that stayed dimly lit all night long and we couldn't turn them off. The beds were ok (2 twins pushed together), but my husband had a fluffy pillow and I had a lumpy, flat one. Rooms were supposed to include wifi and tv, but the TV was antenna, and all the stations were fuzzy and in Italian. Wifi barely worked. When we asked the front desk, they knew it didn't work. The worst part though was the smell. At some point the room started to smell like an airplane bathroom. We told the front desk that our room "smelled funny." When we described it, he said "that doesn't surprise me." He offered to move us to a room that was 1/4 the size of our current room, but that was their last effort to rectify the problem. Eventually, I suspected the air conditioner and turned it off. Unfortunately, it was hot, so we had to keep our first floor windows open. This was unpleasant since people standing near the entrance could look into our room and wake us up with loud conversations. As I was trying to checkout to make my train, there was a woman talking to the receptionist, so she told me to wait. As I stood there, another woman looking to checkout came by and jingled her keys. The 1st woman left, and she proceeded to help the woman who came after me. The receptionist was flustered, but I asked her how much. She said "don't rush me so early in the morning. When I gave her money, she had difficulty making change and told me I'm using all her money. This place only gets an extra star for the price compared to other hotels in Rome.

The place was clean (although the main hallway - shared with actual tenants/businesses - reeked of cigarette smoke). Our room was clean. The bathroom seemed new. No frills or thrills (unless the bidet counts?!). Just a stone's throw from the Pantheon, across the street from a Michelin-starred restaurant, this hotel felt 'European' and a bit 'historic'. Only found out last-minute about local taxes/fees (which, to be fair, was a 'thing' at each place we'd stay throughout our vacation) - but they could only be paid in cash? Major issues: walls were paper thin and a family right next to us (with a toddler) made sure to have a lively conversation that went on late into the night. And without any type of fan or central air we had to open a window just to get some (cool) air and now it's deafening between the constant traffic (cars and walking tourists), busboys throwing out recycling at some ungodly hour, the polizia in hot pursuit, you name it. Probably our worst sleep while in Italy. (Cool/friendly staff, though.)
