I'm actually a member of ECR (Episcopal Church of the Resurrection) on Burnet, but I try to go to St. Matt's contemplative service Sunday evenings at least once per month. I am usually one of two or three people there, but I love that contemplative service. You sit and meditate most of the time, with brief passages from Scripture read and a very quick Communion. It takes 45 minutes and you feel very serene and peaceful when done. No sermon, no singing - just meditation, contemplation and Communion. I feel God more during this service than a regular liturgical service. I'm surprised more people don't take advantage of it, but maybe they don't know how nice it is.
I can't speak to the rest of the offerings at St. Matt's because the only other thing I've done there was stop by a one-hour talk on contemplative Christian practices. But that was good too. So 5 stars for what I've experienced. read more
