We were nervous about sending her somewhere as she had never been separated from us before. She had no problem going right in and getting acclimated. She quickly made lots of friends, she learned all of her English skills within the first 6-8 months as she had only spoken Chinese up until this point. She learned so many new skills that I was so impressed by her new skill sets all by age 2. Ms. Cynthia is the best! She has advanced my older daughter beyond what we could have imagined. As soon as my second daughter was eligible I enrolled her and I've been equally impressed at the rate at which she learns new skills and has begun to articulate her needs!! The time and dedication the teacher has put into each and every child truly reflects. My daughters have grown to have such a bond with Ms. Dana in the office. Ms Mary Ann, Ms. DeLancy, and Ms. Dana have been nothing short of amazing and welcoming to my children. I feel safe when I drop my kids, as I know they're going to get everything they need and they will be well cared for. I see some negative opinions here, and I was compelled to post this 5-star review, as you have to come to school with the mentality that you don't know everything, and that the teachers aren't here to just babysit, there here to help your kid learn and grow with proven track records that work. I've found them to all be extremely approachable and often provide me great insight on how I can improve personally, and at home so my kids have the strongest foundation possible. All I can say is this place is awesome and I've already recommended it to many friends and family who also attend here.

Rather than gently redirecting the behavior, one of the teachers put a mask on him, even though children under 2 are not recommended to wear masks for health and safety reasons. Unfortunately, I saw this happen to other children as well. I also witnessed and heard yelling from some teachers -- which is not only inappropriate in any early childhood setting but especially concerning for a school that claims to follow the Montessori method. You don't have to be a Montessori teacher to know that yelling at children, especially toddlers as young as 18 months to 3 years old, is not acceptable. I later confirmed with certified Montessori educators and visited other Montessori schools where this kind of behavior would never be tolerated. To be fair, there are some truly kind and capable teachers here -- like Delancey and Dina -- who genuinely treat children with care and respect. However, The director herself has also been seen yelling at children. There are two bathrooms shared by both children and staff. When the kids were potty trained, the children used to go to the bathroom alone without supervision. It wasn't until a school inspector visited that the practice changed -- only then did they start sending a teacher to accompany the children. This raises questions about the school's priorities and compliance with basic safety standards. One more thing to be aware of: at the end of the school year, parents are expected to give "tips" to each teacher -- with a minimum of $30 per teacher. If your child has one lead teacher and 3 or 4 assistants, that adds up quickly. However, the tip money is collected by the boss first, and it's unclear if or how it's distributed to the teachers who actually work with your child. That process made me uncomfortable, and I felt parents deserved more transparency. In the end, it's your decision. I just hope that by sharing my experience, I can help other parents make an informed one. Every child deserves a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment.

And she told us there's a lot of parents and she cannot recognize everyone of them. Seriously?!?!?! That's not an explanation! This is the most ridiculous excuse!! How did they even get a license to run a preschool when they don't care about kids safety? What if a stranger picked her up? What if she walks around and get lost? What if...? Omg I don't even wanna imagine!!!! Also, a kid punched her around the eye area while in school. She came home with a swollen lid. She said she told the teacher and they didn't do anything!! My granddaughter started prekindergarten at OLS. We thought we found the perfect school. Even when…read moreparents commented, "this school is not the same", we ignored them. The prekindergarten - third grade teachers were remarkable, exhibiting Christ-like qualities. The education she received through the third grade was stellar, through and after COVID. These teachers really cared about the social-emotional and educational needs of the students that were entrusted to their care. Even when my son said it was time to change schools I stubbornly held on. But fourth grade confirmed that it was indeed time to move on. During the first week of after-school band practice my granddaughter's instrument was taken and damaged by a student in the upper grades. I spoke to the principal Mr. Venticinque, and after watching a video of the lunchroom my granddaughter's statement was confirmed. I wish this was the only incident that took place during the fourth grade. Unfortunately, it was not. She was sitting next to a new student who stole her school supplies. The teacher said she was unaware of the incident, but the new student confirmed that she stole the supplies because she didn't have any. I still do not understand how a teacher cannot monitor a class when there are only fourteen students in the class. My granddaughter actually prayed to get the fourth grade teacher she wanted. And, unfortunately she received the teacher she prayed for. This turned out to be the reason we would leave OLS. This teacher yelled and humiliated students all year. Every day my granddaughter would come home with a different story. Even though the teacher's anger wasn't directed at my granddaughter, children shouldn't be subject to this behavior from adults. She would yell at students if they didn't wear the correct color for Dollar Dress Down Day. I couldn't understand why her anger was directed at the children when parents make the decision as to what their child will wear to school. My granddaughter came out of school very upset after sitting for a test that she studied hard for. This fourth grade teacher took points off her test because she said my granddaughter was talking. I approached the teacher and told her that my grandchild was telling a student to stop cheating off her paper. The teacher asked why my granddaughter didn't tell her. I told her that she was scared of her. She looked shocked and said she would speak to her. That conversation never took place. After this I didn't approach the teacher with my concerns for fear of retaliation against my granddaughter. When the school year was coming to an end we decided this was not the school environment my grandchild should be in. I approached the principal with our concerns regarding this teacher. He responded by saying no other parents had mentioned this to him. He also stated that this fourth grade teacher never yelled. I knew that both of these statements were not true. I told him that her parents would make the decision as to whether she would stay at OLS. My son emailed the principal, Mr. Venticinque and requested a day and time to meet with him. He didn't respond to the email until mid summer. I was a faithful volunteer at OLS for four years. I actually thought this would make a difference in how my grandchild was treated. Unfortunately, it did not. The behavior of the fourth grade teacher, delayed responses from the principal and high teacher turnover are just a few of the reasons why I would not recommend this school.

The issues described below are strictly related to the after-school program, aides, and administration. Unfortunately, the after-school program and administrative oversight fell very short. A few major concerns: Lack of Physical Activity: The rooftop playground was under repair for the entire school year, and the indoor gym wasn't utilized during extended care. Expecting high-energy kids to sit from 3:00 to 6:00 PM with minimal physical outlet is unreasonable. Lack of Extracurricular Value: Basic enrichment like STEM, cooking, or arts/crafts are an additional cost on top of the tuition, whereas nearby programs and private pre-Ks offer these included. Without these add-ons, the afterschool program offers very little structure, leaving children in the same classroom from 3:00 to 6:00 PM with minimal engagement. Untrained Extended Care Staff: I witnessed inappropriate behavior from aides, including dangling food over my child to make him "beg" and loud yelling as a redirection tactic. When I raised this, administration initially dismissed it as a "language barrier" before retracting that statement. Communication & Supervision: Most of the after-school aides speak Mandarin as their primary language with limited English proficiency. While this works well for Mandarin-speaking families, it made it very difficult as an English-speaking parent to have basic daily conversations about my child's day. Administration even cited a "language barrier" when I raised concerns about aides shouting at students. Between the communication gaps, noticeable greeting biases from certain staff, and multiple transition-related injuries due to poor supervision, daily operations during extended care were very frustrating. The day teachers are great, but for the premium price, the after-school program lacks structure, safety, and proper staff training.
