This five star review is for the facilities, faculty, and academics. The administration, on the…read moreother hand, has bungled matters in the past and continues to bungle issues as they arise. I attended Marist and I have multiple family members that also attended this institution. The education was top notch. The facilities were very good and they have only improved. As an alumnus I have an obligation to defend the school and its honor against online trolls that have been appearing in Yelp, Facebook, and Twitter. Unlike the trolls, I have standing to speak as to the environment and the product that Marist puts out. So what's wrong with the administration? For starters they need to defend the school and not bow to the online mob. Marist is a private institution and they are under no obligation to give a platform to those that wish to attack it. Any controversies or matters that occur on Marist grounds should be addressed by Marist and not by the public or politicians. A strong administrator would see to this. Unfortunately, the current administration seems to be more interested in appeasement which never works. How long will it be before the mob comes and tears down a statue of Saint Champagnat? Anyway, the education is top notch. Students go on to excel at universities across the nation. Being a Marist Man or a Marist Woman (since the 90s) is impressive. The athletics programs are outstanding. Traditional sports and clubs are available for nearly every student. If you can't find an extra curricular activity in which to participate then you are not trying. Some of the other reviews here are just plain ridiculous. Clearly, some of the reviewers have an agenda or grudge. Hey, if you don't like the school then go someplace else and fail.

Add that on to substantial financial aid, and MPA really does give a lot of money to students, the vast majority, in fact, that don't go to Morgan Park Academy. I am the recipient of one of the scholarships, and went to public school my entire life previously. I come from a working class home, I have a job. On behalf of all the other parents, my mother apologizes for picking her child up from school. A long standing MPA tradition is called Service Day. The entire upper school picks a project, usually in Beverly, but there have been projects at the various Museums, and public schools a bit further away and spends a day working there. Past trips include Washington and Jane Smith Village, Clissold, local churches, Park Forest, a home for mentally disabled people, and the annual senior trip to clean up the Dan Ryan Woods. Funny, a favorite memory of MPA students and alums is being chased by our groundskeeper, Richie on his snowblower. He can be seen working at six AM the day directly after a snow. Morgan Park Academy is really not the neighborhood monster, in fact I've never heard Anyone speak of it like that, unless you're a senior suffering from acute senioritis that is. =D. Having been around for 125, I don't think it's going anywhere, so why don't you come in for a visit and check it out?

St. Germaine is a hidden gem! We currently have two children enrolled at St. Germaine (first grade…read moreand Pre-K) and when the time comes, we will be sending our son there. We have very different kids and both are excelling at St. Germaine! The teachers have a way of connecting with them and figuring out what each child needs. They will do whatever they can to help the students reach their potential. I appreciate the amount of STEM activities incorporated into the lessons each day. Even in preschool! My 4 year old daughter comes home after doing experiments and is able to tell me why polar bears have blubber! How cool is that! The extra-curricular activities are a bonus, too. In addition to Athletics and Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts, they have a variety of activities throughout the year including math club and craft class. There is something for everyone! If you are looking for an exceptional education with a great, inclusive community, St. Germaine is for you!

I've been really impressed with Principal Reedy, teachers and staff by the incredible measures that have been taken to get and keep kids safe in the building during the pandemic. The focus on making complex decisions in the midst of rapidly changing information has been a model of adaptation and innovation. In short, I am very proud to be a part of this school! - Mrs. Schiltz
