The morning crossing guard does not know how to direct traffic and are putting kids in harms way. She tells multiple cars to go at one time and does not pay attention. I have called the school to complain but nothing is going to be done until some kid is hurt or killed going to school. My daughter is in first grade and her teacher isn't equipment to teach. My daughter failed multiple test and the teacher never said one word to me and I am at the school and see this teacher EVERYDAY and speak to her. A heads up would have been nice. I go to parent teacher conference and she hands me a stack of papers with F's on them. I look at the papers and she says nothing more to me about it. I ask her what I could do to help and she said absolutely nothing to me. No ideas on how I could help my daughter at all. I cannot wait to move so that my kids can go to a school where the teachers actually care about their education and the crossing guard actually cares about protecting the lives of our children instead of talking on her cell phone and joking with her friends on the corner.

I'd never been inside of the school before and was amazed by its size. In trying to get to the auditorium, we had to walk around the entire length of the school. In looking at the size of the school, I was thinking that the actual auditorium would be bigger. It wasn't. The auditorium at my school was much bigger. We were lucky enough to have two auditoriums, one big and one small, and I think this one was about in the middle of the two in terms of size. I know there's a balcony area, but the part that's on ground level is teeny! The stage seems to be okay in size, but doesn't really seem like it has been updated in a long while. The seats are painful to sit in for very long, and I'll admit, I've got a nice amount of padding on my caboose to ease the discomfort. But yet, after sitting a few minutes in those hard seats, I wonder how the kids at the school can bear it. I was able to take a peek around the school as we walked around, and I'm under the impression it is in need of a makeover as well. Paint, to start with.

The grounds are well kept, people there are getting their workout on and the track is level. Enjoy a nice run without the gym fees, climb some stairs without a machine, do some lunges for free. Enjoy time outdoors and with the people. The place is even quiet enough to read. If you are lucky (or unlucky depending on if the parking lot is full) you can catch a soccer match. PLUS, I believe there is a bus nearby.

My senior English teacher once told me that he canceled our end of thr year presentation because and I quote "well nobody wanted to do it". Another teacher told me that they stopped giving out so many out of school suspensions because they did not want to make the student or the school look bad by giving out so many. Add that on to substantial financial aid, and MPA really does give a lot of money to students, the vast majority, in fact, that don't go to Morgan Park Academy. I am the recipient of one of the scholarships, and went to public school my entire life previously. I come from a working class home, I have a job. On behalf of all the other parents, my mother apologizes for picking her child up from school. A long standing MPA tradition is called Service Day. The entire upper school picks a project, usually in Beverly, but there have been projects at the various Museums, and public schools a bit further away and spends a day working there. Past trips include Washington and Jane Smith Village, Clissold, local churches, Park Forest, a home for mentally disabled people, and the annual senior trip to clean up the Dan Ryan Woods. Funny, a favorite memory of MPA students and alums is being chased by our groundskeeper, Richie on his snowblower. He can be seen working at six AM the day directly after a snow. Morgan Park Academy is really not the neighborhood monster, in fact I've never heard Anyone speak of it like that, unless you're a senior suffering from acute senioritis that is. =D. Having been around for 125, I don't think it's going anywhere, so why don't you come in for a visit and check it out?

At first the size put me off, but it is now one of my favorite aspects. Their attention and individualized approach is rivaled for best with their environment of universal RESPECT. Children are listened to but not coddled; encouraged but not pressured. The result is a happy and confident student who independently (finally!) wants to do and be his best. No homework fights. Since that time we sent all 3 of our children to this amazing school and each of them flourished in their own individual and special ways under the care and instruction of this incredible teaching team. The concept of learning styles being as unique as each of the children in their care is the obvious basis of the educational experience. My children were not one of many; they did not get lost in a sea of faces. Learning was a cooperative, hands-on experience that encouraged the development of the whole person. Learning is a POSITIVE experience at PLAID Academy. I'm grateful that we found PLAID Academy, not only did we find a place to jump start our children's enthusiasm for learning, we also found a family of educators that encouraged each of my kids to become the best people they could be.
