The grounds were just really pretty and well kept. I had to interact with a several of the staff and they were all very nice and I loved how they treat all the students with a lot of respect and patience. Since I was rushing I left my car lights on and my car battery died. When I came back to my car and noticed that my car wouldn't turn on I walked to the security gate and told them about my dilemma. Right away they send someone to help me and give my car a boost. They were so nice and made sure my car was fine before they left. Who knew this great school for special education with such great staff is in the middle of the Bronx.

Came here for the first time to attend my nieces high school graduation. The staff here all seem to…read morebe very nice & attentive as I arrived early and had to sit in the main lobby for a few before being instructed to go to the gym where the ceremony was being held. I watched each child be greeted with kind-hearted attention by the front office staff. The ceremony was nothing short of amazing, a beautiful tear jerker and humbling experience to see all of these wonderfully made children set & achieve their own uniquely individual goals. The mayor of the city (Yonkers) took time out of his day, attended and presented the graduates with their diplomas. Very well put together program and a moving experience for all. Congrats graduates and excellent job to the staff.

I visited the school and I was excited because the school was in a good building and it had everything that my son needed. When my son first started he was supposed to have a 1 on 1 aid and when I checked in a few times he didn't , it took the school some time but they finally hired a local young lady to work with him with in a few weeks even though they knew months in advance that he was starting. My biggest disappointment was my son coming home filthy with dried up food on his face that had probably been there since lunch that no one bothered to wipe off and stained clothing. How embarrassing and disappointing to have to take him off the school bus that way in the afternoon. I complained to my school district but nothing changed even though the school got the complaint. I just couldn't comprehend why if they hired an aid for him and him only why couldn't she take care of one child, why did he have to look like no one cared about him. If I could have pulled him out of the school and kept him home I would have. My sons aid or teacher hardly ever wrote in his communication book that I sent with him daily unless there was something that they needed or they thought he wasn't feeling well. He did one year there and I couldn't wait to get him out of that school. I won't be bias, I talked to another parent that I know that sends her daughter there and she was happy so everyone's experience is different. What I would say to any parent with special needs children, if you're unhappy with a program, find another program that you're happy with.

He has a language d/o, auditory processing d/o, ADD, social pragmatic communication d/o, and a reading d/o. Christine helped my son improved in every area. She worked on his executive function, pragmatics, and reading issues. In the 5th grade, my son had a grade level of 1.8 in reading comprehension and a grade level of 3.4 in Math problem solving on WISC-V. After working with Christine for 1.5 yr, his reading score was in low average decoding and fluency range, and average Math problem solving on the Woodcock-Johnson achievement test. BOE considers low average as average. On Terra Nova test, his Reading was in the 73%, and in Language 66% from 18% (low average 25% to high average 75%). My son is a now a social butterfly!! Christine is professional, kind and has empathy.

I went to a school in Brooklyn $1300 nothing included, "payment plan" and was about 160 hours. How do they get away with this. After 2 exams was let go because I had a 70% no make up exam or anything. Code one is a complete 180. They give you chances , they work with you, they want you to pass, they want you to apply what you learned into scenarios. Love it, love how I wasn't looked at like ok he paid he has a low average now it's time to go. My 9 year old son just started his 3rd year at this wonderful school, and it has been amazing for…read moreus! They really understand him, and his social-emotional issues. The small class size allows for very individualized attention. He is (like many of the students) an uneven learner. He reads and does math way above grade level, but needs help with writing and expressive language (but some children have more typical learning difficulties). Each family is assigned a social worker to meet with on a regular basis, and the social workers also go into the classrooms to work on social skills through "friendship" and "games" groups. There is a "black & white" notebook that goes back and forth every day, providing a means of valuable communication between the teachers and parents. He has met some great friends here, and there is a warm parent community. We can speak freely with each other about our children's "issues" - we're all in this together! So happy we found this little gem of a school! P.S. The Parents' Association hosts a wonderful lecture series on a variety of topics, mostly concerning special needs children.

Back in my day, our principal was a man named Mr. Phair and he most certainly was fair to all of us. He was the coolest principal in the city, the type you would only expect to see on TV. He was super chill, even when we got sent to him after a fight, and I only remember him truly losing his stuff only once, which was in the morning when he saw that a drink driver drove right into the school entrance. Anyway, school had it's ups and downs, but it was above standard for a NYC public school. Wish I can say the same for some others I'd go to, but that's a story for another day. Who knew I'd be back here in school to vote well over two decades later! I didn't even live in Auburndale then - I recall taking the "white bus" by Weeping Beech Park to school when I lived in downtown Flushing, back when free street parking still existed in ample amounts, but I digress. Oh yes, this school is fairly accessible by the way, and I recall them doing a pretty good job at accommodating special needs and such, despite being part of the NYC public education system. They had a pretty mean music program when I attended, a solid chess team, an amazing computer lab for it's time, and an awesome rooftop basketball court that opened up when I was in 3rd grade.
