Stopped in here for Midnight mass on Christmas 2019.
Personally, I didn't care for the service. For being after midnight on Christmas day, the church was too dimly lit and dark. The mass was a Tridentine pre-1962 version. Not very uplifting and there was nothing that exemplified the festive spirit of the Nativity of the Lord.
The congregation was kneeling most of the time in darkness. They kept kneeling long after the mass was over. The priest spoke in Latin. No wishes for a blessed Christmas.
The priest and about 12 altar boys walked down the center aisle at the end, which is normal. Congregants stayed in their pews, kneeling and praying as if it were Good Friday.
The procession with the priest exited the front doors, walked outside and reentered the altar area through a side door. More kneeling and then they vanished.
Too somber.
Not joyous.
I know the church is beautiful but this service left much to be desired on such a festive holy day. Rarely, if ever, do I so adversely critique a religious service but this midnight mass was rather creepy. read more
