You can tell a lot of work has gone into preserving the beauty of this church. They also serve meals to the homeless 7 days a week in the morning and are always looking for volunteers.

Just a few blocks east of the Dan Ryan Expy.on 71st street, St Columbanus is easy to access. Parking is a breeze as usually you can park directly in front or in their parking lot on the side. No problems! Historically, this church was founded by Irish immigrants whose lasting presence is seen in the memorial plaque of WWll heroes in the front grounds. Al Capone is said to have donated the money for the exceptionally beautiful stained glass windows and possibly the altar as well. Al Capone along with his mother lived around the block on Prairie Street, in this once Irish neighborhood called Park Manor.' The interior of the church is breathtakingly Gothic architecture that is bright and towering to the heavens above. Aside from the glorious stained glass windows are the deep and very moving Stations of the Cross, that are so beautiful and have survived the test of time. Fabulous statues of religious significance and a baptismal font made from a portion of the altar rail of St. Columbanus. The congregation is full of the Holy Spirit and are beautiful people that will reach out to you and make you feel welcomed and at home. Father Matt is a welcoming priest also and you will like him too. Kevin Morris sings and leads the congregation in song with his beautiful voice. Don't let the 10 O'clock news continue to scare you from uniting with people and visiting this fabulous church with the spirit of God working in our midst. This is a fabulous church! The new leadership brought in a new energy to the existing congregation along with bringing in a number of new members from around Chicago. Reverend Wes Smedley's first sermon referenced an article from the HBR & Wall Street Journal, along with the Bible. He and the rest of the staff do an excellent job of connecting religion to modern day topics & issues in a simple way. There's also a wonderful group of people involved in the 20's & 30's group that gets together on a monthly basis (either through volunteering as a group, attending brunch after Sunday service, or just getting together for dinner at someone's house). One of the things that sets St. C's apart from the rest of the churches in Chicago is their classical music. Richard & his music staff do an amazing job each week at bringing the service to life through song & music. Nestled in the beautiful & historic Gold Coast neighborhood, Sunday's at this church are an absolute treat. Each week, Rev. Wes addresses the audience with a message letting the congregation know we are welcome as we are, no matter where we are on our journey of faith. It's a meaningful message that I truly feel that the church leadership not only means but lives by. If you're looking for a new church, I highly recommend checking out St. Chrysostom's!

Yeah, that's right trying to find some faith and goodness in this fast paced, young life of mine. I knew I didn't want to go to a Catholic Church simply because I cannot swallow all of the hate they spew (whoops, no offense!), so I decided to give the Episcopalian Church a try. At least they accept people as they are (gay, straight, bi, confused, however you categorize yourself!). I walked into the small Church & was taken aback by how old it was. In fact, the Church was built by 1893! The service was about an hour & the message was about the same as a Catholic Church, but it was personal. The Reverend spoke of how he took scripture, which was something I was not used to. Once the service ended the Deacon & the Reverend waited at the back of the Church to greet everyone. They asked my name & told me stay for coffee & doughnuts. As tempting as that was a Cosi bagel with veggie cream cheese was calling my name. I will be back, but will also continue looking for other Episcopalian Churches around Chicago. While this one was cute & has a great history behind it, I may be looking for a bit of a livelier congregation. I definitely saw a lot of white haired ladies & gentleman nodding off during the sermon, hehe!

Gary Jensen, the director of choir and organist, is able to meld disparate voices into one almost every Sunday. It's a church that celebrates Christ's resurrection and teachings in Word, prayer, and song with joy and acknowledging the community of the church and the world outside the doors. We leave ready to serve. Some stay for coffee and treats and to watch children playing with new friends. I love that the music is old and new and the thinking is always challenging me to be a disciple in the truest sense of the word. Come, you are welcome. The Pastor is a great man of God who love and support his members, he believe that we should strive for the best and he also believe in education for both man and woman. We believe that a wife should help her husband, if she want to work fine. We have a lot of working women that attend this church. I must say that the pastor is much harder on the men because he want them to be real men and support their family like a real man suppose to. I been a member of this church all my life and yes we have our up's and down's but we always put our trust in God. I can say a lot about this church but time will not permit me.
