St. John's Shopping Centre certainly isn't bad for a secondary shopping centre within a city, located opposite Lime Street Station, serving Liverpool city centre, I can't help but notice the mall does appear a bit run down now, with many vacant empty units, which have moved across to Liverpool One or closed down completely. Stores located here include Aldi, Argos, JD Sports and Wilko. There are also a couple of smaller stores, pound shops and Supercuts. For food and beverages, there is a small food court area including Dunkin Donuts, Subway and McDonald's. It's pretty easy to get around the mall, as it never seems to be too busy and there is a lot of open space, obviously, the reduced number of stores makes somewhere I'd say to only visit if you're looking to visit a specific store, or if you have some time to kill ahead of getting a train from the station across the way, or even if you're shielding from the cold/rain with the larger Liverpool One being mostly outdoors. 3* read more

St. John's Shopping centre is a bit of a legend serving over 100 shops in the heart of the city. Whatever your taste, there's a huge variety to suit everybody. It has a 420 seat food court on the lower mall with a wide choice of food retailers including KFC, McDonald's and Subway. Customer toilets and baby changing are located next to the book clearance store, near the food court. The mall itself is situated opposite Lime Street station and adjacent to Central station and Queen Square station, therefore there's no way you can miss it! If you're going in to town, it's almost inevitable that you're going to walk past or go through this mall so make sure you check it out as there's cheap, mid-range and expensive stores to discover. read more

A bit run down now, but it's hard to completely write off St John's as there are hundreds of stalls and shops throughout its two giant floors so there is bound to be some bargain there for you. Bargain is about the right for this place as it tends to be pound stores and knock off merchants that are found here so if you're shopping on a budget or know that you can find a pair of trainers or coat that little bit cheaper elsewhere this will be the place to find it. But it's not just clothes as you will find plenty of household goods and furnishings in the Wilkinson's, Argos and market stalls. Obviously this well known bargain centre means that the place will be heaving on a saturday afternoon especially around the central food court section as hundreds of kids and families hang around the MacDonalds, KFC and other fast food outlets. read more

St Johns shopping centre is right in the middle of Liverpool but is very poor when compared to some of the other shopping facilities which are available to the people of Liverpool. This place is basically an indoor market but it has a very uncomfortable feel to it and the poor decor makes it an unpleasant place to shop in. Most of the shops inside are all the same selling low rent versions of things you will find on the high street, basically the quality is not good at all. They have a food court, but I wouldn't trust it this place is often full of litter but the staff inside don't seem in any great rush to do anything about that at all. St Johns is probably great for some people and I daresay there are a few bargains to be found, but for now I'll just stick to the high street. read more

St. John's Shopping Centre is one of the first places you're confronted with when you enter Liverpool - and it from the outside it really doesn't give the best impression of the Liverpudlian retail sector. Step inside, and you immediately enter a whirling dervish of fast food outlets, cheap clothing stores and overpriced tat. You'll also have stepped into one of the grimmest shopping outlets in the entire city centre. OK, so maybe that's a bit unfair, but St. Johns is undeniably 'a bit grim'. It's always dark, stuffy and its interior looks remarkably tired. Whilst it contains a few good stores, this are few and far between - although it does contain one of the highest ratios of pound stores to retail units I've ever seen. I'm sure that at some point in the past (probably the 1970s), St. John's was a lovely place to shop. Then Liverpool One came along and stole its thunder. Don't come here looking for designer clobber - although you can probably get some nice hangers from Wilkinson's from there for a quid. read more

Old fashioned and quite scruffy, St John's is certainly not the greatest shopping centre in the world! With the arrival of Liverpool 1, I can't see it lasting much longer. Mainly consists of chavvy shops with cheap clothes, pound shops and loads of sports shops. Has a food court with the usual KFC, Maccies etc, which is usually packed out, no chance of getting a table! I'm not a massive fan of this shopping centre, and although I am not a brand name fan, I have to admit that this shopping centre could do with a few of them, as the shops here sell cheap stuff which is more market worthy. In fact the market which is part of the centre isn't too bad, but with the goods on sale in the mall, it's very hard to tell where the market ends and the mall begins. I'm not really a big fan of this shopping centre, but the market in the centre of the first floor does redeem it slightly. In the market there are several butchers stalls, grocers, hardware stalls, clothing stalls and a couple of cafes (although I've never been in any of them). In general the centre is pretty run down, which is a shame considering it's position in the heart of Liverpool right underneath the landmark of St Johns beacon. However, there are a few useful shops in it including a wilkinsons, a cobbler/key cutter, several card shops and woolworths. There is a 99p shop and a pound shop in there too, which always seems like a bit of odd planning to me. Ugh. If you're a bit claustrophobic like me, you won't enjoy St John's Centre. It's ugly on the outside and dated on the inside, with no windows and a stuffy atmosphere. It is frequently crowded, and you'll have to fight your way through herds of people to get to the toilets or to the food court for a bite to eat. I avoid going in there unless I'm desperate for the toilet. read more

This place is a blot on the landscape. I can't believe a cast iron Victorian market was demolished to make way for this. A sea of cheap tacky shops. There are much better places to shop in Liverpool than here. I would avoid the food hall as well as it resembles school dinners. The market upstairs has a food part (meat, cheese, vegtables etc) and a clothing part which is dingy to say the least. Majority of clothes are cheap tat which is a shame as it used to be a great place to shop. read more

A good variety of shops but would prefer to avoid St Johns shopping centre if possible. It needs updating into the 21st century. The toilets are maintained but still don't seem clean. Easy enough to get to and there is a lot of choice of shops though. The food hall is usually very busy and hard to find seating, especially for those with children or buggies. read more

If your looking for new clothes at a good price this is the place to go in Liverpool. There is a good selection of independant shops, so if you don't want to finance the corporate dogs of British fashion anymore, go here!!! There is a lot of shops in the centre from shoe shops, to clothes shops and everything inbetween. There is a good range of eateries here, which is handy if your just off the train and going into the city for a bit of retail therapy. This place is full of bargains which you can grab yourself. It has recently been overtaken or overshadowed by the opening of Liverpool One, however it still hosts some top stores which cannot be avoided on a good shopping spree. With christmas coming up it will get quite busy as all good shopping centre's do. It is quite old which adds to the feel of the place and makes your shopping experience quite interesting. This is the old Liverpool shopping centre now overtaken by Liverpool one, but this is the place you want to go to if you want the bargains. It is full of smaller shops, a lot of them independent fashion chains so you will find something slightly more individual and a lot cheaper than the more upmarket shops. It is also home to St Johns market, liverpool indoor market full of its bag, shoe and butchers stalls. Ideal if you know what you are looking for or just want a browse around an old fashioned market. The centre also contains a food court with a nice baked potato shop and the usual McDonalds! read more

Now that Woolworths has closed (our only branch in Liverpool City Centre), there is no reason to really visit St Johns Shopping Centre at the moment. It's ugly and rather grim and depressing looking from the outside, and also not easy to access for disabled people because of the steps; you have to trek around it to get into it via step-free access. Inside, other than Thorntons, Wilkinsons, Poundland and Clares Accessories, there are no note-worthy retail outlets. There is a food court with McDonalds, Subway, KFC, Spud U Like and Shere Khans, but the seating area is crowded and noisy and although the cleaners work hard, it's often dirty. There is a market upstairs, with knock-off clothing and rather scary looking meat. The place needs a big overhaul, as it looks dated and dreary and has little inside to keep customers coming back. There are also a lot of chavs hanging around here, more so than other shopping centres in the area, and this can be intimidating as well as annoying. read more

NEED HELP!!!!!!!! Every November l have a holiday in England, l go to St John's Shopping Centre many times while l am there. This past November l was walking past a handbag shop on my way out of the shopping Centre, in the window was a green mushroom shaped handbag, l wanted to go in the shop and have a look, but l had just walked out of the market where l had bought a handbag. So l decided to leave it. l am SOOOOO sorry, l want that green mushroom handbag sooooo bad. Does ANYONE know which shop it was in??? lt was right buy the doors as you are leaving the shopping Centre.
