Austin Free-Net (or AFN) is a nonprofit where you can really get to know your community!…read more The center provides computers and digital literacy classes to the underserved, as well as an IT program. There are a number of labs around the city in community centers, the M Station, Trinity, and the ARCH, to name a few. The staff at AFN are amazing!!! They really want you to come in and help them in the way that YOU want to contribute, unlike other volunteer gigs. As a trainer, I supervised labs, taught basic computer navigation skills and helped clients complete resumes, search for jobs and other resources, and apply for state benefits. In the office, I did research, put together events and public relations campaigns, and edited class curriculum. I also lent my hand in the IT dungeon, where all the nerds hang out. I would definitely recommend AFN as a place to volunteer. As the saying goes, if teach a man to use the computer, then he can use it to get a job. Here, you can actually do that.

There are meeting rooms you can use. There are games on the shelves that you can play. They offer classes on a variety of subjects! I saw one on bicycle maintenance! You can grab that coffee, grab a book and hang out and take in the gorgeous views of the lake! I love it and can't wait to go back!

However, for some reason, lot of sketchy people seem to be around businesses in this Area especially the library. Crime rate is pretty high. So, be careful and be aware of safety situations which ocassionally arises out of nowhere. There hasn't been a day I haven't seen Police, EMS around here. Thing Two has been here for multiple girl scout events (including today). I have voted, worked out, played racquetball, sat with my thoughts in the community garden and so much more here. This is one of the best community centers I have ever seen. As I have lived in this community for many years, I have seen this community center evolve from the basic amenities to what now houses an adequate sized gym, a racquetball players dream, an indoor regulation sized basketball court, a place to meet friends and so much more. It's often times like this when I realize that I am so fortunate to live in a community that is able to fund such an amazing place where the community actually comes together to celebrate our common interests. #bewellcentraltx

We were able to accommodate all 99 of our guests in the ballroom with room to walk through the tables. The building is so charming and both Clay and his helper were so helpful with everything we needed for this event. We had a slide presentation, a harpist playing and a social in the Garden Room before going into the Ballroom for the meal. The foyer is where the food was served and it allowed room on both sides of this foyer for food items. You won't go wrong using the Price Center for your next event! Clay and his staff work hard to make sure all your event needs are met!
