First of all, what's up with the Security Guard at the entrance? I have so many questions. Is the area unsafe? Does he break up fights? I don't get it. Secondly, why don't they use the VA Police? Because the quality ........ anyway let's talk about the clinic. I walk in and the check-in windows are RIGHT there. I didn't know the procedure so I just stood right there. But, you've got to move to the left and wait in line (they actually have it marked). The woman I dealt with was extremely helpful. I appreciated that. Once checked in I waited. I waited a long time, but I knew my optometrist was running behind because I saw here usher somebody back. In the end she was short-staffed as her assistant called out. I like Mrs. Ciocco. She's very thorough, personable, and explains everything in terms I can understand. The clinic is in a business park so there's plenty of parking and it's on the first floor level. This facility doesn't have a tv, but has plenty of seating. Apparently they offer a shuttle (I don't know where it goes, but I assume to the VA Hospital or other VA facility) because one of the young guys was waiting for it. My visit went well, but I think I'll schedule all future appointments at Fort Meade if I can.

I had 5 serious/notable concussions in my career- which has led to a few issues now and then- but I'll say that I've never been to a facility that seemed to bend over backwards to make me feel welcome and OK about treatment. If you didn't know, TBI stands for Traumatic Brain Injury, and more Soldiers deal with or suffer along with injuries because they don't want to get help. I was that guy- the one who let pride get in the way of treatment. But after a good friend told me just how good they were here on Ft. Belvoir I decided to give them a go. Best decision I have made in a while. Initially there are lots of questions- but they need to know where you come from and what you're dealing with in order to establish a baseline to go from, and then a plan to help. Mel is the one I dealt with today- and she was awesome. Then I met Dr. Chae, a Harvard guy with credentials as long as my arm, but as personal as anyone I've worked with before. After everything I feel confident they are not only concerned with finding the causes, but actually helping me, and the other troopers who need the specialized care they provide. Trust me, if you feel you may be dealing with issues from a TBI or PTSD, this is the perfect place to start finding out how to get whole.

I survived but not unscathed. Fort Belvoir TBI Clinic was the first clinic to put a name to, identify, and treat symptoms I was having which had been bothering my family and I for a couple years. The physical therapy department helped immensely and was able to help my body not hurt as much anymore. The occupational therapy department helped me be able to sleep again, for the most part and helped improve my memory which was slowly dwindling. I saw an Ophthalmologist and an Ear doctor which specialized in TBI patients. I was completely taken care of in every aspect I could imagine and in more ways than I could even conceive. These doctors are all incredible and the Chief of the TBI Clinic is Dr. Chae. Dr. Chae is the most knowledgeable and capable doctor I have seen in my entire military career. This place is the complete opposite -- truly 5 stars plus for customer service, attention, professionalism, kindness, and proven expertise. They know everyone's name and greet you warmly the moment you walk in. The doctor is very friendly and focusing on specific points to relieve discomfort. The machine timers are top tier for me because one of my concerns (from the past) was being left unattended and that does not happen here. They even check periodically to ensure all is well. Initially, it seemed like a lot with having to visit so much, however, I've been struggling for several years and I knew it wouldn't be resolved immediately. Since coming here, I feel better than I have in years! When they suggested moving me to once-a-month maintenance, I actually insisted on continuing weekly visits -- even paying out of pocket -- because the results have been that good. I cannot say enough great things about this company. I recommend Living Wellness without a single reservation. They are simply the best!

I also was severely overcharged for sessions. I was put on a payment plan to pay my copayments over time. I was told I was paying 40 copayments off monthly, and that I had "great insurance " that covered 40 appointments. I found today that was a lie and only 30 appointments were covered by insurance, and they added on to my payment plan an additional 10 appointments that I now have to pay out of pocket for. I am stuck paying thousands of dollars off for the next year, and I'm still in pain! Would not go back to this establishment.
