As a new Mom to the area I found the school to be very friendly, welcoming, and the staff to be warm, interested and very caring of our wonderful children. Since they have started through the system, our kids have really come out of themselves and are getting the best education we can give them. The resource time and teaching has really helped and our child has improved in leaps and bounds. I really can not speak highly of both the staff, pupils and the great social side to the parents association who have and are working flat out to keep the school fitted out with the best of equipment. Well done and continued success to Gerry and his team in Gurrane National School.

MAYFIELD SLI NA SLAINTE The Mayfield Sli Na Slainte starts,…read moreand ends, by the local Community School, with a good part of the walk taking you through the Glen Recreational Park. I followed the refreshing route this frosty foggy morning. The frost and fog were clearing as I reached the park, having gone down the Old Youghal Road before turning right at Dillon's Cross and entering the park by Keating's on the Ballyhooley Road, where there is a car park. Five or six people were out walking their dogs around the 10.00am mark. The corporation workers were coming and going from their depot in the park and some were working on the new entrance. The walk itself, which takes you close to Blackpool, totals 5km, as do all the Sli Na Slainte walks. Max and I enjoyed the excursion and I took some photos, all in the park.

I attended Carysfort National School myself and I thought it was a wonderful little primary school…read more Back when I went it was a lot smaller and a lot less developed. It is great to see how well the school has being doing and they have added on a new wing, but the school is still small enough. They used to own a lot more of the fields out the back of the school but that has mostly been sold off now which is a shame for current students. The school is mixed, goes from junior infants to sixth class and a uniform is required. The staff are very pleasant and well educated. They cover everything from math to irish to sports to music and art. Its in a handy location. It is by no means a big school with lots of equipment, but they offer a broad education and I really enjoyed my time there.
