    Wine tasting flight

The ambiance is so gentle and romantic. We could not have chosen a better place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The worker at the counter was so sweet and helpful. We tried all the wines you could think, pinks, reds, whites, fruits, dessert wine. My husband that isn't a wine drinker even found the kind of wine he actually enjoys while there. We ended up going home with 3 bottles of the chatwa (I believe). It was not to sweet, not too dry one of the most smooth pinks I've ever had. Thank you for an unforgettable experience and we cant wait to be back time and time again!

I came to St. James Winery on a tour with a friend. Everyone here is really friendly and they have a really nice gift shop full of local items. There were a lot of wines to taste but even the ones they say are more dry were too sweet for me. This tends to be the case in most Missouri wineries they are just too fruit forward for me. What I really enjoyed the most was the winery tour. The history was really interesting and our tour guide was so knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent producer of both sweet and dry wines from Missouri. It's a challenging place to make dry wines, so their efforts are particularly noteworthy. The tasting bar offer the opportunity to try any five of their vast selection for a mere five dollars. My favorites are their Chambourcin and Norton, but if you like something with a touch of sweetness, the Pink Catawba and Concord are the way to go.

This is a $5 flight and the world's smallest foosball table.

$5 flight wine tasting Friendly staff Incredible gift shop Super clean restroom I loved only one wine and it's coming with me. My partner picked out a sweet one and several random items are in our shopping bag. Easy to reach off the highway and a fun stop.

If you prefer sweet wines "even red" this is your place. The turkey was amazing too!!

Overall, from my experience the service wasn't measurable to other wineries. The location was right off the interstate, so a lot of road noise sitting on the patio. We were served, but previously had to go inside to order and then remind the staff where we were after waiting. The wine was sweet, so if you prefer sweet I recommend. I prefer more oak and dry reds, so wasn't throughly impressed.

I am not a sommelier. While I've spent weeks tasting the the finest wines in the Moselle Valley, I'm kind of wine dumb. I know what I like and can pair a few to food one eats while in blue jeans and boots out near the barn. This is a place you should hit up when in the area. THEY can help you out and make you happy without it costing you a few months in Europe. They have a reasonable selection for sale and plenty of suggestions and samples to help you on your Sommelier Apprenticeship. They also have a lot of cool wine accessories and gizmos to make it appear you know your stuff. There are tasting tours available to help you learn to baffle those like me. Prices are reasonable and you can order online as they ship to most states. They even have some snacks you can eat while traveling even if you have to keep the bottles corked.

St. James is well known for their fruitwines, and since i am looking for outdoorsy type activities to do this summer (mostly in deference to social distancing guidlines, but also to take advange of sunny weather), i thought a winery visit would be just the ticket. However, and im not sure how i didnt realize this, it is a roadside winery. As in, right on I-44. Not the prettiest place to sit and sip, so I'm knocking for atmosphere. As for health and safety precautions, employees all are wearing masks and gloves, and instead of standing at a bar for a tasting, you can purchase a flight for 5 dollars (see pic) and sit outside at shaded tables. I did two rounds, and the sommelier the second time was much better than the first--answered more questions (tho also i get being weird in this time about a lot of face to face interactions? Esp since customers were not required to also wear masks while inside) I thought the oyster crackers that came as a palette cleanser were phenomenal?? So buttery. They are probably just out of a box - and i was hungry - but tasty nonetheless. The wines run on the sweeter side, and i wound up purchasing 2 bottles of the seasonal strawberry rosé (my early 20s younger sibling will like it), since they were running a BOGO sale. There is no case discount, unless you are a member. Probably i will not be back, as i can pick up some offerings locally and do not need to make a special trip out.

I've been seeing and occasionally enjoying St. James Winery wines at my local grocery store for years. Now that I've been to the winery, I'm content to stick with the grocery store. Turns out the winery is right off the highway. No vineyards, no woods, no ambiance. They've got quite a few tables outside--thank goodness for that in these covid times -- and a restaurant and bar are on the other side of the parking lot. But this feels more like a winery outlet than any other I've visited. The gift shop was full of not only wine and wine accessories, but also tea. That's almost too boutique-y for me, but I did buy three bags of tea, so I guess it isn't! Tastings are a flight of five wines for $5. Comes with buttery oyster crackers. We each did two flights--one before we ate and one after. The first employee who made the flights was not chatty or outgoing. The second employee would answer questions when we asked. Neither tried to recommend or educate us on any of the wines. I tried more sweet wines than dry. St. James has some yummy fruit wines. I bought three bottles: two were part of a buy-one-get-one-free special and one was a strawberry wine I'd had previously and enjoyed. It's not worth a drive from St. Louis to go to this winery alone, but paired with another winery in St. James, Heinrichhaus, it is.

This is one of the few wineries that still gives you free samples. We like dry wines, so tried them all, and found them to be just ok. The non-alcoholic fruit juices were actually very good, and if we hadn't been flying, we would have bought some. There are many, many choices of wines and there are many gifts you can buy. Worth a stop if you are in the area.

I love this place! I really do. And I LOOOOVE WINE! Staff is way cool and knowledgeable. They don't wine snob you, or try to hurry you along. Enjoying yourself is hard not to do here.

We had a wonderful experience wine tasting here last night. The tasting is free and you get to try six wines. However, our hostess allowed us to try some of the wines mixed and gave us ideas for different mixed drinks. We ended up buying five bottles! My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time. Their sweet wines are to die for. I totally recommend trying the St. James Winery out!

I'm not sold on on anything but the smiling service. Self serve wine tasting is something I'm not used to but what the heck? I'll give it a try. After two or three sips of selections, it was clear to me this was not the wine I'm familiar with and will take some getting used to. Nope, after the fourth sip I was done. The varietals used in this neck of the woods are just not my thing. The tasting room is very bright and has a road side truck stop feel with more knickknacks than quality wine. The redeeming quality here is the service. From the moment we walked in until we left with a few bottles to keep working on, we were treated like family. It was great. Too bad everything else was not.

Pretty much my first official wine tasting. We weren't greeted when we first came in so we just wondered and looked around the store. There was an employee doing a tasting with a group. So we ended up heading over to the other side of the counter, where we were greeted by Shelia who, was a lot of fun, friendly, engaging, knowledgeable about the wine and informative. They give you a wine menu and you get to pick 6 different wines to taste. The wines aren't paired anything. (like cheese/ fruit). We were given crackers to help cleanse the pallet in between tastes. The wine was very good. I like the fruit wine and that it is the fruit itself fermented, not mixed with juice. I left with 5 bottles of wine! I also really like the Moscato, not as sweet as some of the other brands (I prefer less sweet anyway). Would have been 5 stars if we were greeted when we came in. - it's welcoming! I'd highly recommend making an effort to greet. I noticed it happen to others beside us, I understand you get engaged in the wine tastings, but it's good to be acknowledged.

The building is set back off the road a little ways sitting stately on top of a hill. The property is absolutely gorgeous. The parking lot a little dicey. Most of the patrons park to the right of the building on gravel. There are a few paved handicap parking spots in front of the building. Inside the building, the dining room and bar area are massive, accommodating a large number of guests. The decor is relatively clean and simple. I was seated at a cozy table and waited for my server. Nicole provided exceptional service. She was knowledgeable and attentive making my experience all the more enjoyable. I started my evening with a seasonal cocktail from the extensive drink menu. I always check out a menu prior to any dining experience. I knew the whipped feta dip and marinated olives were an absolute must. The cheese is sourced from a local Missouri farm. As are a large number of items served in the restaurant. I prefer to support local and small businesses when I can. This gave me an opportunity to support several all at one. The olives were a mix of black and green served warm with roasted garlic. I have never had olives served warm and will insist on it from now on. The flavors were phenomenal. The dish was generously portioned and enough to share with a small group. Or just for yourself like I did. I really couldn't choose between the entrees. Looking around at other patron's meals, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed with anything on the menu. I opted for a Cesar salad with grilled shrimp. I can't think of a time in recent memory when I've had a salad this good. Crisp romaine lettuce, fried capers, fresh breadcrumbs, and a luxurious dressing. (The salad is served with red onions which I very politely set aside as I do not enjoy raw onions.) The shrimp were the perfect combination juicy and flavorful. I finished the entire thing. I would have been remiss to not try a glass or two of wine during my visit. I decided a glass of rose' would be a good note to end my meal on. The wine is amazing, bright and crisp with notes of citrus. I picked up a couple of bottles to take home. I'm looking forward to sharing this find with my friends. I ordered a piece of the bread pudding to go. This was delicious and was a perfect treat later in my evening. I had a very enjoyable experience. The service was excellent and friendly. The food delicious from start to finish. The wine and cocktails paired well with the menu offerings. The cozy atmosphere made this a perfect evening.
