A while ago one of our cats had to visit the vet about 4 or 5 times over about 3 months. Each time we saw a different vet and were given different information at each visit. We were sent to this veterinary practice by our own vets as this was a late afternoon emergency…read moresituation and were received by two considerate receptionists who had been prept by our vets. There was one vet on duty at this practice in Llantwit who examined our beautiful very ill Lurcher Bryn. Unfortunately our boy's symptoms needed further investigation and the vet immediately arranged for a colleague to receive us in the Cowbridge practice. These two vets went above and beyond a normal consultation and stayed well after the normal practice hours. They could so easily have advised us to take our dog to the emergency out of hours practice in Cardiff; but they didn't and persevered finding out a diagnosis. Finally after blood tests and examinations, an ultrasound scan revealed that Bryn had a tumour in his stomach, and that this mass was quite large. This news presented my husband and I with a painful decision, which resulted in us putting our beloved Bryn to sleep. All through this ordeal both vets worked relentlessly and compassionately to help us. We have always looked after rescue Greyhounds and Lurcher's and I would certainly recommend WEST FARM veterinary practice as one of the best practices I have ever encountered. Thank you so much for your dedication and compassion in responding to an emergency situation. Karen & Peter Baker, St Athan

This Cardiff branch was actually the first veterinary clinic in Wales to specialise in care for exotic pets, although they also treat other companion animals, of course, including dogs, cats, rabbits and other small furries. Back in the 1990s, the clinic also opened the first 24-hour emergency veterinary service in the UK, V.E.T.S. I have been using Treforest Vets for years for my two dogs and when the practice set up a new sister surgery in Tonapandy, it meant I saved a long journey but got just as good service. So do many others. The new surgery in Tonapandy has fantastic facilities with a good separation for dogs and cats. They have two separate fully equipped surgeries and three consultation rooms and this means often, where otherwise a pet might wait in a life and death situation, here they do not. Andrew is very caring and takes his time explaining everything. Mike has decades of experience and treats every client as if they were the only one. I see some reviewers say they had a good service from the vets but the receptionist was rude, or the room was warm... so they give one star? Hardly a reflection of what matters I think.
