The virus perpetrating all vets across the UK has struck again. What supposably was a decent and honest independent vet (I know, right?) has been infected by the Medivet strain, and become just another heartless, money-grabbing, sub-standard vet. Oh, and just to add, we were only there for a month or two!
So, where to start? Let's start with the cost. Does a simple blood lump removal and ear clean cost £600+? Putting a dog to sleep for an hour costs £250? But don't worry, every time you use the service they will be giddy to boast about the hundreds they have saved from your bill, and how they saved you £300 on a surgery that should have cost like £300. Let's not discuss the price of drops, where online they were a fraction of the price. Dog lovers? Sure.
But enough about costs, we all know most vets are just the new banks, untrustworthy and just as greedy. They will even have you stand in the rain and read your card details out loud, just in case you don't pay.
Let's talk about the specifics. A very expensive surgery to find my dog's testicle = unsuccessful. The results from the tests = Park Vets forgetting about the test. The removal of two "blood lumps", where we had to show probably 5 different vets the location of, yet on the day of removal, apparently all the vets there couldn't find both lumps. Isn't it odd that friends and family can feel these bumps when stroking him, yet trained vets cannot?
Regardless, the vets only found one, so they only removed one. Then, due to their failure, they said it's not essential to remove the other one, as it is "likely" just contain blood. This brings about various questions; Why did they remove one of the other is harmless? What gives them the right to assume it's not harmful after we paid to ensure they were not? Why did they try charging for the removal of two? Also, they wanted us to pay for the tests on that second lump when we were not satisfied. They also never told us the price for this surgery, even though we asked many, many. Upon completion, they mentioned the hefty costs, and just assumed we would know that these things would be such an absurd price.
To top this section off, they trimmed the dog's nails but missed a couple of nails. Fab. We also parked in a bay for one hour, whilst dogs went in and out. When asked why this happened, they blamed another visitor for impersonating us. Apparently, there's another German Shepard that was originally bred for the German army just floating about at the exact same time. Of course, this lie was as weak as their memory, as the next time, we visited they came up with a different excuse.
A woman that dealt with our complaint, perhaps the practice manager, although I am not certain, was unapologetic, constantly passing the blame (to us, mostly), and dismissing our concerns whilst finding new ways to earn money for the center by coming up with more reasons to bring him in. I probably shouldn't write this, because if Medivet sees it they might make her the CEO.
After voicing our concerns over all these matters, the fact that they missed a lump, not giving the price before surgery, and the others that I can barely remember, we received a lovely letter from Park Vets. But what was it, an apology? A discount? An explanation? Don't be daft! They don't care about those things, instead we were removed! That's right, Park Vets feel that our "professional relationship cannot be repaired". How lovely to receive this amidst a pandemic, when finding a vet is hard enough.
I can safely say that dealing with Parkvets has been a terrible experience, and they, like most independent vets nowadays that have been bought out by one big money-craved company, cares nothing for dogs, and only for cash. read more
