Beau Mont is located in Parc-Ex, on Beaumont near (parallel to) Jean-Talon. We arrived a few minutes early and waited outside in the cold December weather watching while the staff wiped down the doors and attended to the lighting. I was a bit surprised by that. In most other restaurants, the staff tends to ask guests to wait at the bar. The restaurant is spacious and appealing. From the entrance, you can see the kitchen with racks of meat in various stages of being aged. The bar is long and gleaming. To the right, there is a more private dining area. I read that there will be a market in the space and wonder if these tables are placeholders. The dining area features comfortable seating, including a long banquette; mid-century lighting, and poured concrete floors. It is contemporarily-styled, a bit spare and relaxed. The setting contributed to the convivial atmosphere that families, friends, and colleagues enjoyed for their holiday get-togethers. The menu is innovative and features local, in-season, ingredients. I noticed that some of the ingredients that evening (arctic char, sea snails, lamb) were also on the tasting menu at Toqué (we were there a few days earlier). I started with the special that evening, a flavorful bronzed arctic char, accented with green apple, crunchy radish, clementine sections, and wilted spinach. All of this was enclosed in a circle of crème fraiche. Next up, I enjoyed the meaty and tender lamb chops, served with a lavender-infused sauce. I do have to confess that I could not discern the lavender flavor/scent. Along with the lamb chops, I enjoyed the best fries I have ever had. They were creamy (yes, creamy!) with a hint of crisp. And they were not greasy at all. Served with mayo and homemade (sweet) ketchup, I could have made a meal of these fries alone. The celeriac side was subtly sweet - not bitter at all. I liked the dense, but not intense, chocolate tart with tangy strawberry yogurt ice cream and candied hazelnuts. Service was fine. Both the server and kitchen was able to accommodate some unique requests we had.

Vahalla: Cocktail with vodka, fennel, lemon juice, forest butters and carvi spice... similar to cumin but lighter aroma that gives it a Middle Eastern twist. Lentil Crêpe with Duck Confit: pulled duck confit, wrapped in a delicate crêpe made with 60% sourdough 40% lentil flour, doused with sweet and savoury sherry gastrique sauce, topped with bits of crispy duck skin... reminds me of fancy western version of a Peking Duck roll! Seared Tuna: eco-friendly pole and line fished northern bluefin tuna, muscular, meaty and crimson red, perfectly seared with a beautiful crust on the outside but cool and not cold on the inside, garnished with slices of red radish, radish turnip, Japanese radish and wonderfully sautéed blueberries that burst of flavour when biting into them... and a side dish of perfectly cooked carrots, corn and rapini glistening in just enough of butter. This was all so much more enjoyable with a pairing of red wine, a surprising Pinot Noir from Alsace, that was slightly acidic, no too crazy fruity with light raspberry and autumn leaves notes. And to complete the meal, a Pudding Chômeur, which is typically has nothing subtle about it... was amazingly tasty yet not filling where the cream of Chantilly balanced the not too sweet caramel laced genoise with accents of gooseberry. Word on the street, the owners are collaborating with Parc-Extension's Youth Organization to provide training to youth in the neighbourhood where so there is some much-needed community engagement going on.
