A friend of a friend recommended this place as a must try when we were in Montreal. Trendy? No…read more Loud? No. Tasty food in an old school setting? Yes! This restaurant reminds me of the types of places I used to go to with my parents and grandparents. It just brought back a sense of nostalgia. We got here right when they opened on a Sunday morning and were one of the first tables there. When we told the servers that we were visiting from the US and that Chalet came highly recommended, they took pity on us (rightfully so) and then gave us a 5 star experience. We got the chicken special that came with fries, baked potato, Cole slaw and chicken soup and you cannot forget about the gravy! I'm not a Cole slaw conossieur but it was some of the Cole slaw I've ever had. Very finely shredded and the perfect combo of tangy and sweet. The chicken was perfectly roasted and I was so sad that I was getting full off of all the homestyle sides that I couldn't eat all the chicken. But the gravy? Good god that gravy, it's been weeks and I'm still thinking about it. I'm not even a big gravy person but this was savory heavy with a kick at the end. They gave us multiple cups, one for dipping and one for slipping! Come for the food and service, this place is full of regulars and appreciate the hospitality from our servers (I believe Janet or Janice and another friendly lady!)

It seemed busier today than usual with other diners so it was very lively but it was still easy to hear each other talk (and the service was still fast). Cozy, warm, delicious chicken and fries... it's also the only place I at least take bites of my coleslaw... overall, it was great.

Tonight we got the 4 tender trio with fries and the classic burger, as well as a side Mac & cheese,…read morean apple turnover and their donuts. To start, the fries are just ok, really nothing special at all, like McCain crinkle cuts. The mac & cheese was tasty, but the portion was very small for the price. The burger was nice, good ratio of veg to burger. The tenders were generous in size and crunchy. Chicken inside was nice, flavour was good, if not slightly bland. Their honey mustard sauce is yummy. Their gravy is very peppery, which isn't my favourite. The Apple turnover had a bit too much cinnamon, and the donuts were the star of this meal for me.

Verdun used to have a Kentucky Fried Chicken a few years ago until they closed. There are a few Korean fried chicken outfits in the neighbourhood like Comon (which is excellent) , Moa Moa(haven't tried it yet) so I guess there is space for Québécois-styled fried chicken in Verdun . Not Southern, not Nashville, not Kentucky, not Korean, this fried chicken was just sort of underwhelming . I found that there was too much fat still left underneath the crispy skin layer for my liking. Maybe others like it but I'm not a fan. The side dish of Mac'n Cheese could have come straight out of the Kraft box if I didn't know any better. The round puffy chip fries were very good though. If you have hot sauce at home, then you're set with the chips. They have other stuff on their menu like chicken tenders, meal boxes, family meals, a whole slew of fried chicken sandwiches, poutine and even a soft ice-cream bar which I can see becoming popular in the summer. I don't see myself becoming a regular here but at least there's more options now in Verdun. They also offer home delivery and take-out.

It is a bit hard to find, the address brings you to a different storefront and it is located behind with its own parking lot and outside eating area. The outside eating area but it is not the best when raining as the tarp that covers the area is prone to overflow but it is very cute and in the summer it's ideal. I ordered the Mac and cheese and the Becky sliders. I was very pleasantly surprised by the Mac and cheese, and if you know me you know that's high praise. I am very passionate about Mac and cheese. The cheese is creamy without being sticky, and it's seasoned just right as to taste the cheese but with a kick. The sandwich was also great, the chicken was really juicy without being too watery or too hot with the fried portion slipping off. It was a 10/10 experience for me and I already can't wait to go back!

We only tried the first item on the menu but if it's any indication of how good the rest may be we think this was a good direction to go with. But truly, the main reason for our visit was the keylime pie  - which did not dissapoint. A ginger bread crust and a sour cream topping sounds like a gamble but it pays off. It's worth cheating on any type of diet you might be on.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Casual Korean eatery. Great combos…read morewith lots of variety. Everything was tasty. The Long Version: My husband and I went here for lunch. I got the fried chicken combo ($16.99) and my husband got the beef combo ($16.99). We requested no sesame seeds for our food and they accommodated by not sprinkling sesame seeds on the rice, japchae or beef, but they forgot that one of the fried chicken sauces has sesame seeds in it, so I had to give my husband that piece. We were going to share anyway, so it wasn't a big deal for me. The Fried Chicken Combo came with 3 pieces of fried chicken, each one a different flavour: original, sweet and spicy, and soy garlic. The sweet and spicy sauce has sesame seeds in it. Since I can't eat sesame seeds but can tolerate slight contamination, I didn't bring it up and just gave that piece to my husband. Although in retrospect I should have alerted them for them to be more aware for someone else who might have a more severe issue. Both combos came with japchae, rice, 2 dumplings, and coleslaw. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. It was great. I liked both the original and the soy garlic. Hubby liked the sweet and spicy. The beef was tender and flavourful. And I liked that it was lean meat and not gristly. The dumplings were deep-fried and had pork and vegetables in it. The rice was nicely steamed and slightly sticky which I liked. The japchae was flavourful and had shiitake mushrooms, carrots, bell peppers and onions in it. It was little too oily for my preference, but I still enjoyed it. The combos also came with a can of soda or a bottle of water. My husband got a Coca Cola and I got a bottle of water, which I took to go to drink during my shopping adventures after lunch, since we were given tap water with our meal. Service was courteous and efficient. Lots of indoor seating with televisions playing K-pop music videos in the dining room. The restaurant is down a flight of stairs, so might be a problem for those with mobility issues. Review #18 (2025)
