We found our keeper!…read more I had heard about Katz 4 Keeps many times over the last few years; and through his job my husband had helped Mary (the owner) several times but we had never actually visited the facility. While we had been thinking about bringing home a new family member for some time, when we were finally ready this was one of the first places we looked. The facility is impressive. There are different rooms (divided by age) for kittens, young cats and adults. They have an isolation area for new cats and for when any of their current 'residents' get sick. For as many 'boarders' as they have it is surprisingly clean. All I can say is Mary is the epitome of a cat lady, but not the crazy kind. She loves what she's doing and she loves every single feline friend. If you're considering adopting a cat (of any age) please definitely put these ladies on your list. The program they've established is quite impressive and I wouldn't recommend anyone else.

Every cat/kitten is taken to a Veterinarian; Katz 4 Keeps doesn't mess around with the cat's health. The facility is hospital quality clean with separate quarantine rooms for new and ill cats. The volunteers and fosters are top notch quality. On September 9th, my family adopted two kittens, Aren and Delle, from this rescue. We were told they had recently recovered from an upper respiratory infection and were now healthy. Unfortunately, less than a month later, our sweet Delle passed away on October 10th from FIP -- a fatal illness that likely developed from an infection that hadn't fully resolved. We followed all the recommended vet care and sought immediate treatment the moment she showed signs of illness, but despite every effort, she declined quickly. It was a deeply traumatic and heartbreaking experience for our family -- and for Aren, her sister, who is now grieving as well. I want to make it clear that I deeply understand and appreciate the mission behind animal rescues and the challenges they face in caring for so many animals in need. My intention in sharing this isn't to criticize, but to hopefully encourage more thorough medical reviews and communication before adoption. Even small improvements in diligence could help prevent another family from being blindsided by such a devastating situation. I emailed the rescue on October 11th, not in anger but simply to inform them of what happened. Unfortunately, I never received a response. Delle was deeply loved and is deeply missed. I truly hope that sharing her story leads to positive changes for future adoptions -- and to more happy, healthy forever homes.

I've supported JHS for over a decade but finally had my first experience as an adopter with them,…read moreand it went wonderfully. My spouse and I decided we were ready to bring a cat into our home a couple years after our senior cat passed away, and we headed to JHS to start seeing if any cat felt like a match. The facility is beautiful and clearly designed to minimize stress as much as possible for the animals. The front desk employees were friendly and told us to look around, so we did. We wanted an adult cat, and we found that -- at least on this visit -- they were all in a special "citrus suite" that required accompaniment by a counselor since cats can be a bit spicy. It was about 30 minutes before closing at this point, but we were assured that we wouldn't be rushed out with closing and to take as much time with the cats and counselor as we wanted. Once our lovely counselor Charly was ready, she took us into the suite and started talking to us about the cats. She had detailed information about each and talked to us about what we were looking for, what our home was like, whether we had children or pets, and whether we had experience with cats. It felt very friendly but also like a good two-way evacuation (us of the cats and JHS of us), which I appreciated. One cat ended up showing interest in us pretty quickly, and we spent about 20 minutes with her. Spoiler alert: she's sitting on the couch with me now at home. Back to that day: we said we wanted to adopt her, and Charly got her into a travel box and had us wait for a few minutes at the front while she got paperwork together. She brought us our new family member and a big folder with important dates for follow-up vaccines, medical information, and even some coupons. Once we got home, they even sent us some more photos that had taken of our new cat during her time at the shelter, and the online tool they partner with was useful, too. It was definitely a great experience, and it reaffirmed my belief that the work of JHS is one of the best things about this city.

I went with my friend so her daughter could pick out two of them. This place is absolutely beautiful. When we first arrived, we were greeted by Ellen and her super friendly pup, and they showed us around. We got to go into the aviary, where I fell in love with a darling cockatiel. First off, the aviary is stunning. Ellen and Darien take in rescued birds, rehabilitate them, and re-home the ones that they can. They go to great measures to ensure that the right person adopts the right bird, and they provide wonderful resources and hands-on training. The birds are extremely well taken care of and cared for by Ellen and her staff. As someone who believes in animal advocacy, this means a lot to me. I am now finishing the process of adopting that sweet little cockatiel (she comes home tomorrow), and I am so overwhelmed with gratitude for Ellen, Darien and all the amazing work they do for the animals at the Rescue & Sanctuary. I highly recommend with a full and happy heart!!
