Reading the reviews, I struggle to understand what people are talking about when it comes to lack of care...but after being in the office to witness some people's over-inflated sense of entitlement and their interactions with front staff, I can say that approach often dictates outcomes. I was transferred to St Augustine, and transferred care from my former dentist to St Augustine Family last year. Dr. Caggiano read my entire folder (I'm no stranger to dental work or dental procedures), even making mention of the note in my chart of my rapid metabolism and the only anesthetic that will work to numb me, and had plenty of it on hand for my first procedure. I knew that I had a prior cavity repair fail twice on my back lower left molar, but I didn't have the time to get it fixed properly. A prior dentist had attempted to repair this and couldn't manage the water from the drill, and it choked me multiple times.(Water in the lungs is not fun) First procedure: Failed cavity repair on a deep tooth way in the back that I had less than favorable experiences with. After discussing options w/ Dr. Caggiano- and my never wanting to get a root canal - we opted to crown the tooth. I'll try it one more time- on my second visit. Dr. Caggiano was very communicative during the procedure and 2 assistants worked diligently to keep the water out of my throat during the drilling with 2 large bore suction hoses running together. Their crown impressions were on point, and the temp crown held for the 2 weeks that we had to wait for the new one to be made. Over a year later, no issues with the crown and just had my semi-annual cleaning. No cavities, no gaps in the crown. read more

The plan is to make a dental bridge. I keep getting messages to make an appointment to come in, and I do, but when I arrive they print me up a "treatment case" with wildly different patient responsibility charges. My insurer, United Health Care, says most of the things in the treatment case should be covered. United Dental agent called them but could only leave a message. She said if I don't hear from them I should call and tell them to call United Health Care Dental. I hadn't heard from them so I called. No answer. My current plan will expire at the end of June and I'm afraid the work will not be completed. What is going on over there? read more

Did a terrible job on my partials, then a new dentist wanted me to spend $2600 more to correct them by having two more teeth taken out. I would rather go toothless before coming back to this practice. read more

Expensive! Do not accommodate patients I needed a temporary crown glued back on and they couldn't see me for several weeks. I bought tooth glue and fixed it myself. Took 5 minutes that the dentist couldn't spare!! read more

I wrote a review some time ago about the poor care I received from Dr. Obando. His care or lack of it landed me in a oral surgeons office for surgery on an emergency basis. Another dentist advised me Dr. Obando was to just trying "pad his pockets" with expensive tooth repair on a tooth that was unrepairable. The office told me I still owed $30. from his lack of care. I went to the office spoke to the "office manager" explained why I should not have to pay the bill... thought this was all set until today, 8 months later, I received a notice from a collection agency. 66 years old 1st time ever getting a notice from a collection agency. So he wins, put me though HELL and still gets paid. STAY AWAY FROM THIS OFFICE this Dr. SUCKS. I will continue these post in hopes of warning people to STAY AWAY read more

UPDATE: I got a call back from Lisa, who is absolutely wonderful and talked me through the situation. The practice is using an external billing service as well as an external answering service - this is why I was not able to get any answers about billing or get in touch about my bills. I am cautiously optimistic that the matter will be resolved going forward. The clinical team is lovely. This review is for the billing team. Twice in the last year - the whole time we have been patients there - they have sent us a huge unexpected bill without dates of service or itemization of services rendered. Each time, this has been a HUGE headache to try to sort out with my insurance, and each time it has been a completely incompetent billing error on the part of the clinical staff, who submitted claims to our insurance and then neglected to cash the insurance company sent them!! They have also told us services would be covered by our insurance but then used a billing code for Tier II services (NOT what was rendered in-office) which caused them not to be covered. We have paid copays in office and then been charged for them a second time (this is apart from the huge unexpected bills for hundreds of dollars). Then, to add insult to injury, the billing team will not pick up the phone or answer messages, and the schedulers (Khadija) refuse to transfer calls to the billing team. I have had to take time off from my workday to go to the office in person to try to get an audience with the billing team, and each time was made to wait. They cannot return calls and they cannot speak to you in person, but they sure can send you big bills with no explanation and expect you to pay them, no questions asked! Save yourself the stress and go to another office - this billing team will end up sinking the practice, which is a shame because the dentist and his team are wonderful and deserve better support. read more

So I absolutely hate the dentist normally and these guys were AMAZING. I hadn't been to the dentist in about 4 years due to COVID and just life getting crazy. The office staff upfront were so sweet and helpful. Everyone I worked with in back of house was also so sweet and attentive. They made sure to tell me what was happening before and during it was happening. They also told me what they were looking for and explained everything along the way even though I never mentioned hating the dentist. 1000% recommend these guys and will be a patient for life. read more

I was a patient of Dr Harriet until he sold the business to German Obando. At at the end of Dr Harriet's career he crowned 8 of my teeth at about $1,000 per tooth. About a year and a half after my teeth were crowned and German took over the business a crown fell off. I returned to Family Dentistry to have the tooth re-cemented. I assumed there would be no cost for the repair. After the crown was fixed I went to the check out counter to find a $225 bill. German decided he did not need to honor Dr Harriet's work. I reluctantly paid the bill. A few months later another crown fell out. I returned to Family Dentistry and notified the receptionist that needed to have the crown fixed but I am not paying $225. They put me in a dental chair and I sat there until closing time(penalty box?), Finally German assigned someone to look at my tooth and re-cemented my tooth (about 5 minutes). I paid $70. Had another tooth fall out and went to Moultrie Dental. 5 minutes in chair and out $40. Family Dentistry went from a family business to a greedy corporation under German Obando. I strongly advise that you don't select this Dentist. read more

The dental staff, keeps changing. And right now there is a Nurse Ratchet otherwise known as Jan. She is a bully. If no one else is around she terrorizes patients. Told me it was my fault that the dental impression did not take. And this not the the first time I have been rudely treated by her. Your not biting down hard enough. Your not biting down hard enough. Well how about the fact you might have put to much impression material in the form? My fault? Seriously that is the attitude. How about well let's just do this again. . Oh no not Jan, she is perfect. In all my years I have never been to a dental office where the patient is terrorized. Ordering the staff around, being rude to patients when no one is around, makes decisions about the color of my crown without showing or discussing with me. Just a real Southern B. But when someone is around she exudes that syrupy sugar sweet you would get a cavity from "southern" charm. And they don't disussthe issues or show you the xrays. The Dr Habibsaid lets wait and see. Well his wait and see became a larger problem that now I need a root canal in a terrible spot or the tooth will have to be pulled. If I had seen the xrays as to where this cavity was located I would have been better informed. Getting a cavity under a crown is really bad. This last time I insisted. I am running to find another dentist. Not some halfway house for the lets not discuss what is going on with the patient and a wait and see. Cavities get bigger they don't get smaller. One on the side of the tooth is especially difficult to manage. Would not recommend. Something is wrong when staff people keep leaving a practice. Should have been my first clue. read more

I really dislike going to the dentist, and had to hype myself up to go to this one too. the building from the outside looks dated and parking is sort of weird (its best to take the street behind the clinic and enter through there) But once inside the office is very modern, very clean, and friendly staff. The exam areas are open concept, which was unusual to me, but once in the chair I forgot about it. Nice flat screens right in view for tv viewing too. My hygienist, Carmen, was very friendly, patient during the x-rays, as I have a smallish mouth and the screens were hurting a little, she took the time to show me all the xrays after and was gentle during the cleaning. Dr. Benedict came in and I was so surprised to see how young and cute she is. Very warm, professional and upbeat. She gave me a great simple solution that no other dentist had come up with for a small cosmetic issue I was concerned about too. If I *had* to find something negative, it would be that they do not accept AMEX. And I was given a quote to fix a broken cavity and I thought the filling price was really expensive, it wasn't til I got home that I realized the quote must reflect as having the white filling instead of the more affordable silver filling. I wish they had put both options on the quote. Other than that I will be recommending this clinic to all my St. Aug friends. read more

$8,400.00 and 13 months of frustration and all I have to show is one implant that does not stay in my mouth. It comes loose/out after 2-3 days. it has been put back in 3 times already and it is loose again. I Made an appt a week ago but when I arrived, it seems I wasn't on the schedule. They said they would "squeeze me in". That would be for another wham-bam-thank ya-mam quickie that doesn't work. Now Corral will be gone for 3 wks. read more

The staff at St. Augustine Family Dentistry are great. Every experience I have had there, and I have been a patient for over four years, has been a really positive. Dr. Harriet is a wonderful dentist, he listens and explains what is needed, or not, in a very competent, quiet way that is comforting. His is always very professional. The hygienists are very professional and competent and they don't oversell anything. They do tell you the options for extras, but don't make you feel stupid for not accepting them. The front desk staff, Diane in particular, is really great and proficient! The dental assistants are professional, caring and attentive. I am so happy that this is my dentist and I highly recommend this office. read more

I don't know where there are so many negative reviews. The office building is really clean and everyone was very nice in the front. Carmen was my hygienist. She was super nice, professional, and didn't put any pressure on me to get unnecessary services. I requested her for next time. It was the least painful cleaning I've ever had. I had the worst experience here. I went for a cleaning. Had one there 4 months earlier without a problem but this time, I was seen by the same dental hygienist who punctured my gum behind the last tooth on the bottom right side. The hygienist apologized when she stabbed my gum. Two days later, I was in agony in the area where she stabbed my gum and created an abscess. Unfortunately, my tongue rubbed against the open sore all the time and the pain was constant. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the point of extreme pain, I was a 12 -- in agony with no relief in sight. I returned to the the office asking that I get a prescription for Amoxicillin -- the antibiotic used for tooth and gum pain. The doctor refused to give me the script and I was given an antibiotic mouth wash and a script to get more, if needed, from my drugstore. The mouthwash did nothing to heal the gum or diminish the pain. In addition, the doctor wanted me to pay for this visit. I told her that if they expected me to pay for the visit, to send me the bill and I would go to small claims court and sue them. I called my primary care doctor and a gum specialist. The primary saw me the next day and gave me a script for Amoxicillin because I had an abscess. I saw the gum specialist the following day who confirmed I had an abscess. Do yourself a favor and find another dental practice. This one is irresponsible and dangerous. read more

I went in with an infection of the gum they gave me no medication and after the exam they told me to come back in a week and they would put medication in the gum. I was unaware I had a sore in my mouth and the dentist went from it could be a cyst to mouth cancer. Told me I needed to see someone right away. I am from Ohio up own a home in St, Augustine. I felt that I got very little support and obviously no treatment. I left that day to come home to Ohio and saw my dentist the next day. He said the sore would need to be seen by an oral surgeon which he got an appointment for me right away but stated it didn't look like mouth cancer to him. I was not a smoker or drinker and he felt it was not in the location of a mouth cancer. He thought it was a cyst. He gave me a steroid, antibiotic, and mouth wash for my gum. Told me to come back for a really good cleaning after the oral surgeon saw me. The oral surgeon said it was a infected salivary gland and he could remove it. If the dentist in st. augustine would have provided some treatment and not so unsure of herself I might not have ruined my vacation time there. I would suggest all travelers avoid this facility. They look like a timeshare situation with dentist who float in and out. read more

I also went to this office for a cracked tooth, as their website (and staff that answered when I called) assured they did "emergency care". When I arrived they insisted on doing their own x-rays even though I assured my normal dentist had just taken some 2 weeks earlier (they did not call to confirm). After doing all of this, they also went on to tell me that they could not fix my problem that day as I had previously been assured - so I asked them to refer me to another office. I ended up having to pay over $100 dollars for the visit - and to make matters even better, they said their "system was down" - so the place I was refferred to had to take x-rays AGAIN. So I was basically charged for them to do nothing except take unnecessary x-rays and tell me they couldn't help me until AFTER the fact. To make matters worse, when I mentioned that I was a college student on a budget - they not only never mentioned any financing options (which I mentioned in my paperwork) - they were not very professional when questioning me about how I would pay for their services. I should have known better when I entered an office that had about ten people working and not one single patient besides myself - will not be going there again :( read more

Doctor Fetner is fantastic. Her and the staff are very friendly and professional. The office is nice and clean. I've gotten a cleaning and some filings here as well as my initial checkup and I've had great experiences every time. They offer different options so I can choose what works best for me. I'm not sure why there's a few bad reviews about this place. I haven't been to Doctor Harriett, but as I said before Doctor Fetner does an awesome job! They are much better than my previous dentist! St. Augustine family dentistry is a terrific practice and I would recommend it to anyone.

I DO NOT recommend Saint Augustine Family Dentistry. I received a New Patient mailing that stated, '$59.00 for exam, cleaning, & x-rays. They did the x-rays which no one (except me) looked at or said anything about them. The female Tech told me that I should have deep cleaning but she never looked in my mouth to determine this. Dr.Jarrell came in and looked in my mouth real quickly. After his exam I asked him about a worn down tooth and he asked where is it. It surprised me that he did not see it. Not looking again he told me not to worry about it. The Tech told me an office clerk would discuss what it will cost for the cleaning. The Office clerk said the cleaning will cost me $898.00. I complained to her that the card mailed to me said I would get cleaning, x-ray, and exam for $59.00. So she said that she would give me a discount and then the price would be $722.00 I said no way and got out of the dentist chair and went to the front office. I asked what do I owe for the x-ray and half way exam. I was told $39.00. I paid that and left. I could not believe they send New Patients cards to get you there and then raise the price and not honor what is in black & white on the card. read more

I wanted to post this review regarding my niece, whom I took in for xrays and a cleaning, due to she was complaining of tooth pain.After performing xrays and cleaning we were told findings.( several fillings) root canal and a tooth extraction.My review is on the hygentist who performed the cleaning...I was just made aware of her comment..today..the cleaning was last month..The hygentist asked my niece when was the last time she had been to the dentist..She responded I don't remember..the hygentist then saud...ih, so never?She then asked her..Does your Mom go to the dentist? First of ALL tbat was completely UNCALLED for and very unprofessional! You don't know someone's life circumstances or the reasons why or why not , nor were your comments appropriate....maybe her Mom is deseased....You need to teach your staff some compassion and etiquette classes.YOU really should be ashamed of yourself!!!My niece didn't get her name..a heavier set blonde hygentist....process of elimination....I will tell everyone how heartless this place is!!! read more

I DO NOT recommend anyone to go to St Augustine Family Dentistry, particularly Dr Michael Jarrell. Upon my first visit to the office, he constantly referred to me, a new patient, as "dude." While I understand he was probably trying to be personable, I would only expect that from someone who knows me well. It did not evoke a sense of professionalism from a Doctor whom I'd never met before. Dr Jarrell completed several fillings on my teeth and one tooth in particular was painful the following day. After several days of intensifying pain, I made a return appointment as I knew that pain after a simple filling was not normal. After listening to a very detailed description of my symptoms, Dr Jarrell insisted that I use Sensodyne and come back in 2 weeks if the pain did not subside. I assumed he knew best, since he claims to be a Doctor, so I followed his advice. I only made it a few more days before the pain was unbearable. On this 2nd visit, Dr Jarrell did a test on my tooth and determined it was BROKEN. He admitted that the tooth must have broken as a result of the filling. I was incredulous! Why would he not have performed that test on my initial visit, after claims of extreme pain? To make matters worse, because it had been approx 2 weeks since the filling, without treatment of infection, I needed an emergency root canal. I understand that a cracked tooth as a result of a filling can occasionally happen, but my problem with Dr Jarrell is his unprofessionalism and lack of care. I lost a perfectly good tooth due to his negligence. Perhaps if he had apologized and told his office to waive the ~$200 I was billed for a filling I no longer have, I may have been more understanding. If you're looking for a caring, attentive and professional dentist experience, stay far away St Augustine Family Dentistry and Dr Jarrell. It's a shame that office recently moved to a newer building on US1 - obviously bought and paid for by selling shoddy "healthcare" to the people of St Augustine. I have since been to St Johns Family Dentistry on Anastasia Island and now recommend their office to everyone. read more

What a nightmare, please take your business elsewhere. I took my son in who was treated by Dr. Benedict. Thinking that the dentist is one of the most traumatic and feared events in a person's life I trust a professional to try to be as accomodating and comforting as possible. This Dr. chose to bicker and battle with my son, even ignoring the universal 'hand up, I feel pain!'. And I guess when finished the Dr. chewed the receptionsist's ear off about how 'bad' my son was because as I was trying to pay the bill the receptionist insisted on scolding and berating my son - "you need to learn how to relax for the Dr." and "you're the most difficult patient the Dr. has ever had". How about shut up? You're speaking to a child! I'm just disgusted and will be returning to my kind & gentle Dr. back in Jax for any future appts. read more

I have nothing but bad things to say about this dentist practice. First they mail out a over sized postcard to get new patients claiming to have 'extended hours' including Saturdays...what a joke... I had to wait three weeks to get an appointment cause when I called I asked for a Saturday they didn't take appointments on Saturday. Huh? What about working people? So, I go to my appointment (teeth cleaning) and the traffic is terrible that day on US 1. My appointment was at 5:45 PM and I call at 5:51 in their parking lot trying to find them. Once I got there 5:52 the receptionist said the dental hygienist left for the night and I would need to reschedule. I asked if they could call her since it was so soon after she left and she said they didn't have her cell phone # Nice customer service!!!!!!! No way would I want to reschedule with this practice and I will share with my condo community to NOT go to this office. They use deceptive advertising to draw you in...sad! Wonder how they would try to 'up sell' me on their dental services too. read more

At first they seem warm and welcoming. However, once you get in the chair they try to "run the meter" by selling extras, many extras, that are not covered by insurance. I suspect the staff get commissions for selling the extras. This business is like a used car lot. read more

I initially saw Dr Corral for a second opinion and was given a complete explanation of all options available to me. I felt very comfortable with his communication skills and professionalism and opted to receive all dental services in his office. I have had an implant and two crowns with no complications since that first meeting His staff has been eager to serve and are knowledgeable. They do a great job. read more

I have a condition where I cannot have anything in my mouth without throwing up. I have always been funny about this but in the last few years it has gotten to the point that I can not even stand dental xrays. My dentist said I should find someone that would prescribe tranquilizers for the visit. So I called St Augustine Family Dentistry and asked if they could help as they advertised themselves as a comfort dentist. I explained my problem and asked specifically if they could help. The receptionist said yes and I made an appointment. I went in today after calling and making sure that they would be able to handle my problem. They were not willing or able to give or prescribe a tranquilizer and had trouble with the xrays. So the hygienist said there was nothing they could do with me and then they, the hygienist and the three girls behind the counter, all stared at me so I left. What a waste of time and one half vacation day lost at work. I was not impressed by their attitude and they deceived me. read more

I have always hated the dentist due to my oral sensitivity during and after cleanings. I hate it so much that I actually haven't been to a dentist in around 2 years (I know that's terrible) but I was in college and honestly just kept telling myself I'd go the next time I made it to my hometown but never did. From the second I walked in to St Augustine Family Dentistry everyone was externally friendly and the facility was beautiful and clean. Carmen (I hope that I am remembering her name correctly- if not I'm so sorry, I'm terrible with names) was incredibly friendly and took the nerves away from the cleaning and made me very comfortable. She went out of her way and took incredible care to cause the least amount of pain or irritation along with provideing so much great information in improving my oral care at home. If I was to rate the pain I experienced with my home town dentist it would be a 8 or 9/10 (10 being the worst pain) but if I rated my irritation today it would be a 0.5 or 1/10. I was actually able to leave with a smile on my face! The dentist Dr Harriet also was very kind and friendly and provided all the information needed and took his time to review my oral cavity with care. Very excited to have found this dentistry and look forward to taking better care of my teeth. read more

Excellent. Was looking for a new dentist because mine retired. Stopped by office staff was excellent. I decided to have the new patient exam. While I was already present Dr. Harriet did a procedure for me he is the best dentist I have ever had the experience with 100% tops along with the assistant. read more
