While I was hospitalized at Overland Park Regional Medical Center last year Dr. Adam Kaye did the…read moresurgical procedure to insert a central catheter line (perma-port) to be used as an easy intravenous access site during my upcoming chemo treatments. It's a very quick and simple procedure, but not without some risk because the surgeon needs to be careful that the wires that are part of the apparatus don't actually touch the heart muscle as it's being inserted. In this case everything went fine and there were no problems with the insertion. Approximately a year later the perma-port stopped working properly, and I had completed the chemo treatments, so I had Dr. Kaye remove it at the beginning of April. This was another relatively simple procedure, done at the Overland Park Surgery Center under local anesthesia. It did involve a bit more tugging and pulling than I anticipated, but there was nothing painful about it. My only subsequent concern was that a good-sized lump developed afterwards under the incision that was fairly tender to the touch and looked bruised. Follow-ups with Dr. Kaye (a really nice, cheerful guy, by the way) were reassuring -- sometimes after this kind of procedure where there's a remaining pocket under the skin, where the port had been located, fluid can accumulate during the healing process. There was no infection, the small incision itself has healed nicely, and a month or so later the lump is now considerably smaller as the fluid is being reabsorbed and it's no longer tender. I just saw Dr. Kaye again to check, and he recommended hot compresses on the site to accelerate the shrinking of the remaining lump. That's certainly no big deal to do! I appreciate Dr. Kaye's accessibility and his willingness and ability to explain what was going on, both before the procedure and during the healing process. I've been fortunate to have never had any other surgeries, but that means that I didn't know exactly what to expect at each stage and Dr. Kaye's been good about explaining what I needed to know. Considering this experience, I'd be happy to have Dr. Kaye again as my surgeon if I ever need to have something done, and I can recommend him to others who may need surgery.

The doctors are extremely talented and the care is top-notch. They have an ICU and multiple other facilities in this the nurses over here in the parts center are very talented. We worked with somebody called Emily and she was outstanding. The front office is very efficient and they follow HIPAA guidelines and make sure that the security is good. This place does have a great cafeteria for a very nominal prizes everything over here that you find is very cheap. I definitely recommend this place for new parents.

Since they made me walk clear across campus twice every time I was there, and made me pick up my own medication's at the pharmacy and walk that very long distance to where I had my CT scan,, I would never ever ever suggest a leukemia patient, who is single, with no car, and no one with them, to set foot in that nightmare of a hospital! Only problem I've had is he's also a doctor for the Royals and getting an appointment in season can be tough. He's carrying and understands how much I hate needles so only wants blood when it's absolutely necessary. For me with my medical problems, it works out his area is sports medicine. I had x-rays initially and with inclusive results, Dr. Noland recommended an MRI. Once I had the MRI, I began to see that Dr. Noland was a step ahead of me the entire way. In a good way -- every time he had a good guess as to what had happened to me (sports injury), he was right without jumping to conclusions. As a result, I tore my ACL and had to have it replaced. Dr. Noland then referred me to Dr. Key for surgery. Both men were extremely friendly, helpful, professional and -- best of all -- experts!! I will recommend Dr. Noland to all my friends in the future. PS: He saw me for x-rays the day after it all happened. Amazing.

I checked in for the appointment today, paid my co-pay and waited for a technician to call me. Once I got in the MRI department, I reminded the tech that I have a Spinal Cord Stimulator implanted by Dr. Fotopolis in 2024. I had discussed this with the tech and doctor that saw me in the Urgent Care department. I also recorded it on the intake form that day. The tech told me they don't have the correct MRI machine to do any MRI's on patients with stimulator implants and none of their facilities do and I needed to make an appt. at an independent imaging company. The people I spoke with today at KCOI were very apologetic and I understand mistakes are made. What I am upset about is evidently the doctors at KCOI put in 100's of stimulators each year and are supposedly they are the #1 rated Ortho Hospital in the city, yet they don't choose to buy an imaging machine that is stimulator compatible. The wait time for an initial consultation with an assistant was an astonishing four months, meaning I wouldn't even see Dr. Patel directly for quite some time. Additionally, the staff was unhelpful and rude. I was a patient of Dr. Patel for years and encountering that type of treatment was too much, and due to these challenges, my primary doctor decided not to refer any more patients to Dr. Atul Patel. There are other doctors that do migraine injections there is nothing special about this office to have to wait months while experiencing severe migraines. Overall, the experience was disappointing and not conducive to effective care.

Dr. McCullough did not rush while explaining his job during surgery and went over the pictures very carefully with us. I would highly recommend this practice. The people who work there seem to enjoy their job which flows over to customer care.
