I ordered a large flower arrangement for a friend starting a new job. The arrangement was to be delivered on a specific date and was close to $200 all said and done. The shop never delivered the arrangement on the date specified and never reached out regarding any issues, notwithstanding the fact that they confirmed my order and charged my card the full amount. BEWARE! If you order flowers as a gift for someone, they will be told that the quality of your gift will only be assured for 24 hours from delivery. My partner ordered 12 long-stem roses to be delivered to our place in Shadyside on my birthday at a cost of $100. We generally look to support local businesses directly rather than use online or 1-800 services that take a share of the amount paid. His experience in the shop was pleasant and he left feeling good about his decision. The flowers arrived on schedule on my birthday and the bouquet looked great when it arrived. Each long-stem rose had a hard wire wrapped around it--presumably to keep it standing upright--which does detract from the natural beauty of the roses, but we went with it. It wasn't a day later that one of the roses was fully drooped so I just removed it from the bouquet and it still looked great. Over the following 48 hours 6 additional roses drooped. (We have better luck with bouquets from the supermarket at a small fraction of the price!) I called the shop to let them know and the woman who took my call--she said she is the owner--was very rude, informing me that on delivery we were handed a green receipt that indicated they only have a 24-hour guarantee. Apparently customers are informed of this 24-hour limit at the time of delivery and not at the time the order is placed--this is probably because most recipients of flowers are going to be hesitant to involve the gift giver when something goes wrong with an order because they don't want to appear ungrateful. After the owner informed me of this 24-hour limit, I let her know that I am a lawyer and understand my rights. My partner's purchase cannot be limited after the fact with a slip handed to the recipient of the order when delivered. He had every reasonable right to expect a $100 bouquet would last a week or more. I let her know that she could either issue a refund or we would contest the credit card charge and ultimately take it to small claims if it came to that. The owner did then agree to refund my partner's credit card for the order, and they sent a driver to pick up the flowers and take them away. All to say you might be better off just picking up a dozen roses from Whole Foods or Trader Joes and giving them to your loved one! And if you are not local and trying to have flowers delivered beware that this shop is ready to deliver subpar flowers and claim they were only guaranteed for 24 hours. read more

I paid almost $90 to have a Christmas centerpiece sent to my friend at an assisted living facility near the shop. I heard nothing from her. Then, I got an email from her daughter saying that my friend loved the amaryllis bulb which had been delivered to her but there was no name on it so she didn't know who sent it. I understand that there have been supply side difficulties BUT what was sent was far from being worth $90 AND I was not informed about the substitution. Also, I had sent a message to be delivered with the flowers but none was delivered. I would have rated this a zero, but apparently the amaryllis bulb is quite pretty. The last 1-star review I left was in October of 2013 for a large corporate establishment. I saw the sign on the storefront for "$9.95 Mixed Bouquet" and I stopped in. The $9.95 bouquet they showed me looked so cheap (that should've been my first clue) that I opted for their "Cash-and-Carry $10.95 1/2 Dozen Colored Roses." I picked 3 pink and 3 red, some Babies Breath and asked for the flowers to be arranged. The flowers (see picture) were not arranged nicely- babies breath on one side, 3 roses skewed on another, and the other 3 awkwardly sticking out in different directions. The ribbon(for tying balloons) the bouquet was tied with was gone by the time I walked back to my car. The person who arranged my flowers and the person who rang me at the register were different people. The staff member at the register says that the red roses are more expensive (the flower arranger didn't know), and I was not informed of the price differential. No apologies, no nothing even when I inquired about the price. All together, that bouquet in that picture was $17 and some change with tax. I actually was on my way to Whole Foods to get a bouquet and thought that I would stop by a family-run flower shop instead. What a big mistake. I came home right away and un-did the original arrangement, and I can't believe the price I paid for it. You can get the same quality, for cheaper, on the corner of Fifth and Craig on Sunday mornings. read more

Never had a bad experience here. AND no worries gays, they are gay friendly! It is family owned and operated. Their staff really tries to help make the best flower arrangement for what you are looking for (if it's not already there). It's small, but the flowers are beautiful. I like the added touch they give...when you buy a bouquet of flowers they wrap it in the regular plastic flower wrap stuff, and then they add a sheet of colored tissue paper, and finish it off with a pretty ribbon to match. There's a reason. It's the best flower shop in Pittsburgh. It's over 100 years old. My point is there is a reason. I have gone here for every valentines and Mother's Day since I was a kid. I was the recipient of an "HVD" delivery today that didn't arrive until sometime between 7:35 and 9:30 p.m. AFTER the sender had to ask whether I'd received my flowers, then called the florist. It's Valentine's Day-Super Bowl of flowers and Squirrel Hill totally fumbled. The couldn't even bother to write out "Happy Valentine's Day" on the card. It actually said, "HVD." I only know what the sender meant to say because he sent his receipt to prove that he sent flowers after he had to ask about them, because I hadn't acknowledged them by six-thirty p.m. Because at that point there were no flowers. The flowers that arrived are too long for the vase and look like someone just grabbed a handful and threw them in with zero attention to detail. The sender absolutely should demand a refund. The "How Sweet it is" arrangement on the website was a beautiful arrangement of dark red and magenta flowers, orange roses, interspersed with leafy textural greens resembling curly parsley. The description said "This charming mix of fresh blooms in ripe, fruity shades of raspberry, peach and cherry is a tempting pick-me-up for any day of the week. Send one to a favorite friend to brighten up their day. A mix of hot pink, red and coral flowers such as roses, Matsumoto asters and carnations - accented with greenery - is delivered in a glass vase." However, what my mom received was completely different. It was light yellow roses (past being fully opened - must have been old), pale pink snap dragons, maybe a daylily, a couple carnations, with a few large leafed plant fronds between the flowers. This morning 5/16/2018 at 9:20am my neighbor brings down a missed delivery card from them stating they showed up at 1:30 in the AFTERNOON.
