Best squash club in the Boston area. Paul is a fantastic coach. Low-key, comfortable club and the highest quality coaching around.

Longfellow Sports Club - Shower

Longfellow Sports Club

I am really confused about this sport club. It is located in a wealthy town and they charge $100 a…read moremonth for membership and based on that you expecting a certain level of service. At least you expect this place to be clean. However that is not the experience I had. I came at 2 pm and a first thing I run into is a bag full of trash in the middle of locker room. Between shower, sauna and clothes change I've spent 30 min there and trash was there for all the time. Next surprise was in steam room where I run into a dirt and a dead bug in the middle of the room. Showers were also extremely dirty and faucets barely sprinkle any water. I don't think I would ever go back to that club and would not recommend it to anyone else who values sanitary norms and hopes to get money/service ratio

I've been going to Longfellow for 40 years or so since I was a kid and played tennis there. It's a…read moregreat place. For starters, it's a great group of people working there. The group health classes are also excellent - I'm partial to the yoga classes which come with the membership. The workout equipment is solid and often being upgraded. I love the pool and hot tub, and the sauna and steam room are great. I'd like it if they provided towels, but, overall, it's got what we need. I also really appreciate Longfellow's commitment to environmental sustainability. Solar everything, a pool that uses less chemicals, etc... Do a day pass and make up your own mind and enjoy.

Anytime Fitness

Probably the smallest and worst of the Anytime Fitness locations in the area (Nagog Park in Acton,…read moreClinton and Acton in the Stop & Shop plaza are all better locations). The machines are noticeably older. This includes the free weights and nautilus machines. The free weight area is VERY tight. There might be enough room for 2 people working out by the dumbbells but even then it will feel tight. Just one squat rack / bench press station while Acton and Clinton both have at least 3 stations. Dumbbells only go up to 75 lb (Acton and Clinton go up to 100 lb). Maynard only has one adjustable cable pulley machine but at least it's capable of cable flies since there's 2 sides. Problem is, they don't have a cable pulley lateral pulldown machine. The stretching area is also very small. You can drive a couple miles more into Acton to workout at a better gym. I'm glad this one isn't my home gym

This review is based on my experience with the atmosphere and does not include the great customer…read moreservice that I've received from the owners. They've actually tried to rectify issues pertaining to the loud weight spammers and teenage kids who frequent the anytime fitness in Maynard, but my ears and annoyance with some of the ppl who frequent this gym could not be dealt with given the fact that I live in suburbia and some kids find this place to be a hangout place for them sometimes during the night since it's 24/7. If they could expand and separate the weight room ( to isolate the loud dropping of weights) from the rest of the gym, in addition to not allowing adolescents to go there to hang out with their friends after hours I would consider going back. I suppose if these towns had more appropriate hang out places they wouldn't have to go to the gym to hang out, but it is what it is.
