We made a reservation to take pictures with Santa on Christmas Eve and had the absolute worse customer service and experience. We made our reservation for 1:45pm and arrived around 1:20pm. The photographer Amanda asked us what time our appointment was and when we told her she barked back that we were late. Mind you there was another dad in line with his 6month old with a 1:45pm time slot as well. She took him and his pictures. When she returned she asked us again what time our appointment was and we told her 1:45pm she looked past us and asked the next 2 parties behind us their time and they where 1:30pm and 1:15pm. She took them without acknowledging our reservation. When she came back she told us they ran out of time and we couldn't take pictures. She could not explain why she skipped us when we were on time for our reservation. She said to take it up with corporate but would not give us any number or who to contact. She yelled at us and berated us for waiting until Christmas Eve to take pictures. We had 4 small children and the grandparents with us. The kids were crying after her interaction with us. She called security over and we explained the situation to the officer and they told us she would take our pictures when they returned from break. She made us wait over an hour after our reservation to take our pictures. We made sure we were first in line for our pictures and after returning from break she skipped us again and took another party in line behind us. We reminded her that was not what was discussed with security and that she said she would take our picture after they returned. By the time she took our picture the kids were tired and the baby was crying and not cooperating. It hard to not feel discriminated after our interaction with Amanda. She pulled People behind us who were not people of color and when watching her interaction she is not friendly at all. We get it's the holidays and it's busy but that's why we made our reservation and arrived on time because we respect peoples time. But to be mistreated with the children and grandparent with no explanation or apology feels very targeted. Man, I can't remember the last time I went to Square One Mall... it's definitely been a whileee! Came here to check out the Gatcha claw machine store and it was seriously like a blast from the past, walking through memory lane inside. Many parts of the mall looked like it was stuck in the early 2000s & it was sad to see how vacant this mall became. There's really not much left here, besides the large TJMaxx, Best Buy, Dick's Sporting Goods, & Macy's. All the stores looked very outdated, with the exception of the TJMaxx... that was the only store that seemed to have all the stuff you would normally find at other locations. Hopefully more stores are on their way & turn this mall around. read more

Blast from the past, glad to see the mall is still open, you can almost feel a big change is coming to perhaps revitalize this establishment. There's not many big names left aside TJmaxx, Best Buy, DSG etc but a ton of the spaces are mom and pop shops which is cool, still feels pretty empty across the mall though. I come here occasionally for some various reasons, this mall has a variety of places you can go, stores, food, shopping. This time I came in to get my eyebrows done and its usually fast easy like always. The ladies there are pretty open around the morning. I also stopped by macys on the way back to get a toy for my son. They got more new food and snack stalls around the area as well. So if you are around the north shore this a good mall to stop by aside from the north shore mall which is also not too far of a distance from there. read more

The best years for this mall to be open were 1994-2007. It has been a nightmare since. CVS is no longer available. Sears? vanished... Comics from Newbury? Forget about it. Disney store ?....you funny. Around 2013 or so the iconic blue Square One sign was removed. Driving by, there's something about Route 1 that truly stands out. You could see that the Blue Square One sign was on par with the orange dinosaur and Hilltop signs. Erasing it broke the vibe of the mall. . What remains is a homogeneous mess filled of no name stores. Every time I got here the escalator is still out of service and the bathrooms are always wet and unfriendly. The only time this mall will have massive amounts of people is when it's Xmas season. read more

What a dump of a mall this place is. There is absolutely ZERO reason to shop here. There's nothing worth checking out at this mall. The main audience you'll see here is large Hispanic families who let their kids run around unattended. The food court has bad selection including a Taco Bell (gross). Even the parking lot seemed sketchy. There's even an EZ Pass office inside one of the abandoned stores. If you have to go to a mall, try North Shore or Burlington instead. read more

Guess its awesome to be management for the stores, open and close when you want and no one says or does anything. NO more Newberry comics, most stores are either clothes stores or other stuff no one really cares about. Gamestop shut down there, best buy is still open. But this mall has really fallen from grace. I remember when this mall use to be the place to be. Now it's so so but it still has good places like TJ Maxx, dicks sporting good and a food court. Also surprise surprise there are a lot of local businesses that are now on the store front. There is a braiding and supply store on the second floor. What a great surprise for those individuals looking for a salon with a braiding stylist! It's also very easy to get to and has plenty of parking. I love the days when a mall has stores inside versus having to walk outside to go to stores. I hope and have my fingers crossed that there is a way to revitalize it. read more

Square One Mall is even sadder looking than last time I was here. To be fair, I know a lot of malls have been hit hard by the pandemic. But this one feels like a ghost town now with how many vacancies there are. It's a wonder Macy's is still open here considering they've closed stores in much busier and nicer places like CambridgeSide Galleria recently. Supposedly Macy's was closing stores last year in "lower tier malls" which is a fitting description for Square One, so how it stays open is a mystery to me. The selection of stores that are open is pretty redundant. Several unremarkable women's clothing stores, two body jewelry shops, some stands offering smoothies. Annoying kiosks that try to give you samples so they can sell you stuff (I also how those places stay open in general, not just in this mall). So why two stars instead of one? Well, unlike other malls I've visited, there haven't been any shootings here (that I'm aware of), and given the size and location of the mall, I think there's potential for it to be a lot better. Also there's a Cuban place in the food court and I have not seen anything like that in any other food court. I don't know how good it is, and checking it out is probably the only reason I'll go back. read more

This is my go to mall... It is one of the older malls in the area, circa 1980's. It has easy access located directly on US Route 1. There plenty of parking, the lot is huge and they even added a second level. Lots of anchor stores such as Sears, Best Buy, T J Maxx, Dicks Sporting Goods, Macy's and more... A couple decent food spots. I give Square One Mall 3.5 Stars but will bump them up to 4 for Yelp as they are definitely not a 3 Star Mall. read more

Galetto's Grill, one of several businesses in the Square One Mall food court, has some tasty rice dishes but watch your money. Make sure you and the one taking the payment is well aware of the paper bill amount given, as I had given a $20.00 bill and was not paying attention and they gave change of a $10.00 bill. They denied giving the wrong change and when we tried to make a deal gor the difference, they strung us along saying they were waiting for the boss who never came. Nice mall, I've been several times over the years and have a distinct memory of going to the Disney store there and getting a lightsaber for my 13th birthday. Having being raised in this area, I can say that most locals feel that this mall has gone down hill, obsolete, and has become peripheral. I'm not sure why, but one thing can be said; it IS a small mall, however, you can grab most things you need here. I'll never forget my middle school years of sucking helium balloons outside the Disney store, buying beeswax and making my hair crazy at Hot Topic, skating outside near the bus stops, buying video games at Electronic Boutique (now GameStop), and chasing girls at Limited Too. This mall is fine. Certain areas are more kept up than others, but it has a lot of shops that you expect in a mall, like Forever 21 and the Disney store. The big anchors here are Macy's, Dick's Sporting Goods and Sears. This Sears has a Land's End in it. The food court has a variety of options, including pizza, burgers, Chinese and sandwiches. In the food court is little train for kids. One thing that is annoying is that the elevators are really far apart and hard to find. So if you have a stroller, it's a bit of a schlep to get from one floor to another. read more

If we are in the Saugus area and we need to shop, Square One Mall is our go to location. This mall had a great selection of stores and usually we are able to get through the mall with limited hassle. We love to shop at Bath & Body, Fashion to Figure as well as hit up the food court. The largest critiques we have is that parking can be a nightmare at times and some of the larger stores get torn up by customers. That being said, we will continue to shop here while in the area and we have no problem spending countless hours here. read more

Before we start, let's get one thing right out of the way - Attention, Square One Mall: Please let Tello's know The Eighties called. They want their store back. Good. That's done. Now, let's begin: This mall has decent anchor stores - a Macy's and a serviceable Sears. And, of course, the requisite Best Buy. There's an H&M -WITH NO SECTION FOR GUYS. What the hell? Why is there no guy section in the damn H&M at this mall? There's a Hollister, in all its faux-California glory, wreaking from the dutifully-sprayed cheapo cologne they sell. I must note here that apparently people in their teens and twenties will buy anything as long as it is sold to them in a store that one needs a flashlight to shop in. I'll admit, though, that they have very good quality graphic tees. Unfortunately, the daunting task of standing in line to pay makes the purchase of t-shirts or anything else a frigging nightmare.THEY HAVE THE SLOWEST CASHIERS IN THE ENTIRE MILKYWAY GALAXY. I think that explains all the over-stuffed chairs in front of the registers; they must realize that those in line might need to rest while waiting so damn long. There's an interestingly trampy clothing store (forgot the name) upstairs to the right of the escalator on the Sears end. The mannequins look like porn queens. Seriously, who the hell shops in such a store? There's a Bath and Body. And you know you HAVE to have a Bath and Body. One can never get enough free drive-by sample shots of moisturizing lotion. There's a TJ Maxx, and a Filene's basement, where you can get great bargains on brand-name goods. They're the biggest pluses of this whole mall. Must every mall in America have a frigging Brookstone? How many gigantic back massagers and over-priced foam pillows with built-in speakers does anyone really want or need? A word to all the cell phone hucksters at all the booths scattered throughout the Square One Mall: IF I WANT A PHONE, I WILL LET YOU KNOW. OTHERWISE, SHUT THE HELL UP WHEN I WALK PAST YOU. Just keep checking out your over-gelled, spiked hair and re-tucking your Tello's shirts. That should help you pass the time. The food court: Burger King; a pizza place; wraps, and the required-by-law person hawking tiny bits of General Chow's chicken-on-a-stick. (Yuck, by the way - Gooey YUCK.) The food court is not bad, really. It has the basics, so what can you say? Oh, you can say this: The bathroom off the food court is apparently from the 23rd century or something. Ultra modern is an understatement. It practically goes to the bathroom for you. I am making this mall sound a bit worse than it actually is. It's pretty basic, really; a traditional mall in every respect. It suffers from what every mall suffers from: NO ORIGINALITY. What else is new when it comes to most malls though? read more

I've read recently that malls are becoming a thing of the past and dated. Never thought of them that way but than again I buy second hand 95% of the time so going to the mall is a rarity for me. With that being said this mall did feel a bit dated, but not horribly. It was conveniently located down the street from our hotel on a busy highway full of hotels, stores, and restaurants. With a few hours to kill before our flight home, and with the rain outside we needed refuge. The mall fit the bill. Although we didn't shop, well I did hit up the Rainbow store, we did spend a few hours here. Mainly at the food court. The area was clean and had a handful of choices however about half of them were Chinese. Bummer! I was really craving a fresh salad. I did find one at a fast food joint but thought this mall could use a little more variety food wise. The bathrooms were clean and had a separate family bathroom. There was an elevator as well as escalators. The mall was set up pretty standard. Major department stores at each end and mall shops and kiosks lining both sides. The day of our visit, a Saturday early afternoon it wasn't crowded at all. It wasn't horrible, just kinda ordinary with nothing that really set it apart. Review of Square One Mall - FOOD COURT ONLY I visited this Mall today, and the Food Court, due to a luncheon with friends. The Food Court choices, are just as disgusting in Square One Mall, as they are at the Pleasant Lane Mall, Nashua, NH. In both Mall - Food Courts, the food choices are extremely limited to high fat, over salted, mainly foreign foods (Asian, and a weird kind of Latin American) which prevails in both Malls. (Oxtail Stew, anyone???? Tripe, anyone?) I know that the typical Mall shopper has changed dramatically, over the years, but there are no healthy food choices in either Mall, at this time. Other than a few (truly, awful) chain fast-food places, (Taco Bell, Chick-filet, Sbarro, etc.), there are few choices that do not involve over salted, over cooked Asian food or (offal based) Latin American food. Teenagers, no longer the main shopping population at either Mall must have left a huge void in the food choices, so Simon must be bringing in anything with a pulse and a pot. The current food choices in both Malls, are pretty frightening. I made my luncheon choice from a very limited selection of eateries, where I would never, ever choose. I saw pre-prepared foods there, that I would never, ever, eat in one million years. (and, we wonder why the Malls are dying?) The pasta mess, which I (paid more than $7.00 for) and was served for lunch, was luke-warm, over cooked, over salted, and just awful. The (2) servers, (one took the $$ and one slopped my order into a plastic, re-heatable container, were both non-English speaking, grimy and surly. The mound of pasta mess, they were serving up, had been uncovered and exposed all morning. It was slathered in a thick, white tasteless gooey sauce. Cheese sauce, maybe? The whole plate had no taste, and was over priced at $7.00 plus (Massachusetts) tax. I was surprised at the very small, shopping population inside the Mall, and I have to presume that part of the reason for the extremely low amount of Mall traffic, was due in part to the slop that is being served up and called "FOOD", there at the lovely Food Courts, (in both of these Malls). I know that Mall Eateries, have never been "Bon Appetit" worthy, but come on.....What's next to be served up there, at the Simon Malls: Boiled Elephant's Feet? Bush Meat? I was in Stop and Shop yesterday afternoon at the Square One Mall and an Elderly man was in the line in front of me. He took out a debit card to pay for his order which came to $123 and some change, he was declined with his credit card and told the cashier he only had $80. The cashier took a couple of items off and he said he didn't want to take anything else out so she the manager came over and asked what happened, she took her wallet out of her pocket and paid for the balance of the order. I thought she went above and beyond and she should definitely be recognized. I think her name was Donna it was about maybe 4:00 PM Friday the 13th. I generally avoid this mall as there are so many better options elsewhere, drive a little further and go to Northshore Mall and you'll see a huge difference in terms of caliber of the stores. As said in other reviews, you'll generally find this place is packed with teenagers and families with so many kids running around. If you're looking for general stores like Macy's, TJ Maxx, Best Buy, etc, and you're strapped for time, this place is decent. The food court is also one of the better highlights of this mall, they have different options that you won't generally find at other malls. The rating couldn't fit more perfectly, this place is meh. read more

I was at this mall yesterday. I actually worked at this mall many years ago at Dellaria's Hair Salon. It was a good mall with tons of good stores and a good crowd. The escalators n elevators always worked. Not anymore :( This mall has changed so much sad to say :(. The mall was so hot. It was sticky. So many of the stores had fans blowing around hot air. I felt bad for the ppl working. They were trying their best but you could see how hot they were. Old navy was soooooo hot. I was in line about to drop. I had to purchase water and put some on me! That's awful. The food court is a NO for me. So many stores are gone. I didn't see any security like before taking care of the packs of kids just hanging out. I don't use the bathrooms in this mall anymore so I can't complain. This mall is starting to remind me of meadow glen a bit! My daughter got a piercing at ACT I believe. Next to Best Buy. 1st floor. The manager was awesome but he was sweating. That's a health hazard. That's not good for the ppl that work in the mall or the ppl that are shopping!! I hope this mall makes some changes soon. Look at the "People Also Viewed" section on your right, Yelpers.... - Northshore Mall - Condom World - Hubba Hubba Although I disagree to a point with how those three relate to the SOM; Northshore Mall is too KLASSY for SOM clientele, Condom World has never been visited by the mom and dads of SOM or else or they wouldn't frequent the mall with their 12 kids, and the baby mall rats of Hot Topic will forever be too young for Hubba Hubba because it's now closed. Come here and save yourself a couple bucks - the laughs you'll get at "Giggles" from a comedian down Rt. 1 is the same you'll get by simply observing people at the good ol' Square One, only fo' free! read more

this place reminds me of the Emerald Square mall, but more north shore. I don't know why north shore trash doesn't bother me as much as south shore (or RI) trash bothers me, but either way, I can deal with this place better. They have your basic chooch stores that make trashy teens swarm the place, but they also have some other not so normal mall shops that make it more worth my while to drive up. Forever 21 and Charlotte la reuse and H&M to name a few. it's almost like downtown crossing turned into a mall with wiggers. I can see why more people gave it 2 stars but for some reason my north shore pride is coming out in full force so I gotta stick with 3 stars. read more

Why four stars when everyone else gives far less? Because this mall serves a purpose for me that all other malls don't fill. YES it is a ghetto mall. If the Natick "Collection" is like filet mignon then this place is like ground beef. So why do I like it? Well because it is an absolute mecca for what I call "going out clothes" aka "club wear". For instance, I could go the a store like Bebe or Arden B. and spend $50-$80 on one sexy "going-out" top OR I could come to the Square One Mall and browse through the numerous club-wear stores and find something almost identical for probably 75% less and use that $50-80 to buy four tops instead of one. See what I mean? This is pretty much why I come here and no other reason. You've got Forever 21 (clubbing stuff plus cute cheap everyday clothes), Charlotte Russe, Ella, Tello's, Made in Brazil, and Fashion X. All of them sell cheap stuff you can go out in that looks suspiciously similar to the high end stuff. I pretty much solely come here to buy those kinds of clothes. No other mall has quite the variety of these kinds of stores the way this one does. However, I wouldn't recommend coming here to do "normal" shopping as the selection for that is pretty limited. For every day shopping I'd give this place only two stars: one for the Macy's and and another for the H&M. read more

It's a disaster, it's dirty, it's annoying.. and yes, it's my go-to mall. It's a love/hate with Square One, always has and always will be. When you go to a mall, why do you go? What are you getting? What are you doing? What is the purpose behind going? All these answers are found simply by saying; I need to go to the mall. You've found some purpose to go there inside your mind. I say, oh I want to make a quick trip to Forever 21 (granted this one is tiny compared to Burlington or Peabody) and stop at Wet Seal and Macys. Okay, so I say, I'll run to Square One. It's quick for me to get to, easy and small enough that I'm not trecking all over the world for my three stores. Yes, it's small and crowded whenever you decide to go. It works for me though. The sights you see are priceless and add to the overall experience. If I'm making a night of it or day, where I have an extensive list or what have you on things I want to get/do (NOT that I could ever afford anything), making it a girls night; I'd attend other malls because they offer different dining experiences. But Square One fits the need for a quick trip to the mall. read more

I usually only go here when I have something in mind to buy and 80% of the time it's at Best Buy. I went here today looking for Lenscrafters, walked in through the 2nd floor entrance, went right to the mall map to find the store. Oh, wait, umm, the mall map is gone, wtf? Walked around 95% of the mall looking for Lenscrafers, couldn't find it (or a mall map) and left because I had other stuff to do. Got home a bunch of hours later and call Lenscrafters, umm where in the Square One Mall are you? The 5% you didn't go to, next to Macys. Wtf Simon? Two Stars. A little Square One Mall trivia. This place was supposed to be upscale when it replaced the New England Shopping Center. It had a bunch of high end stores including a Betsy Johnson store and high rents. Everyone in this mall has a kid with them - either 5 to 12 or still in the carriage. This mall is nice for only a few stores, Best Buy (when they have nice sales - most of the time their employees suck for PC's and look like they got out of bed and put on rag clothes on), Yankee Candle, Dicks Sporting Goods (when they have good things on sale - rarely), JC Penney, American Eagle, Hot Topic, and EB Games... or is it Gamestop now? The stores are great and there's plenty of cool stores you just don't get at other area malls. The parking and pedestrian situation are not so great and getting back on rte. 1 when leaving is pretty tricky and scary with the maniac drivers!!! My experience today included plenty of pushy rude people who don't say excuse me and pretty much ignore common courtesy norms, but whatevs. The mall, overall was clean, except for the food court- it was very very messy and there was not a seat in the house. I like the TJ maxx attached and some of the other larger stores- that's pretty neat. read more
