We loved this tour so much, we did it again! You're not going to get a better hotel or guide to Oktoberfest then Spyglass Tours. There is absolutely no way, you could get as nice a hotel, a reservation at hofbräuhaus the night before, and a reservation at a Traditional Tent, trying to book this trip on your own. Trust me, I tried. You get everything from the traditional to the touristy if you want it, on this tour. We love the traditional tent reservation that is included in this tour, it is fun and festive. The hotel we stay in is modern, clean, and a great location to the fair grounds. Our Tour Guide Michael is the best part of this tour, he is so helpful and relaxed. The whole trip was Gemütlichkeit! We did the Oktoberfest, Amsterdam, and Prague tour in 2016. We had such a great time and have become friends with everyone on the tour and, to be honest, it was a little depressing the couple weeks that followed going home. We all had so much fun we keep talking about a reunion. I'm always the travel organizer between my husband and I. Sometimes it feels like another full time job. There are so many details and arrangements to be made. The main reason we booked this trip was to make sure we were able to have tent reservations to get the full festival experience. We were in a tent with traditional dancing which was outstanding and made for a very authentic experience. When we booked this trip with Michael and Ivy, all we had to do was get ourselves to Munich and back home. Everything else was taken care of and it made the trip that much more relaxed and fun. We rode in some of the nicest buses I've ever been on. We stayed in nice hotels with good breakfasts and in great locations relative to public transit and city centers. That is always a major concern for me when visiting a new city because you want to be able to get around with ease. Michael and Ivy are seasoned travelers so you will never be left wondering where to go or how to get somewhere. I really enjoyed the fact that there were meals and activities we did all together as a group, but we also had plenty of free time to explore on our own. We always ended up running into or meeting up with our travel mates though, like the night we all (for some strange reason) ended up at the hotel lobby bar the night before we left Prague. We (four of us) went with Spyglass for our Octoberfest trip in the fall of 2013. I was admittedly a bit reluctant to book with them because they did not do a "total" package, i.e., air and transfers, but I took the chance and was glad I did. As I discovered, Spyglass is a small mom & pop type operation and have no employees except themselves. Once in Munich, everything went off without a hitch. For those of you who have never been to Germany (I was in the military there in the 70's), getting a hotel in Munich during Octoberfest is THE biggest hurdle. Having Spyglass take care of that and getting a tent reservation relieved a big burden. We were also treated to a beer at a beer garden which allowed us to become acquainted with Spyglass' proprietors, Michael and Ivy, as well as the other members of the "group". I say "group" because you are free to explore Munich and the surrounding area independently. The only time we saw our "group" was during the inclusions for the tour, i.e., hotel, beer garden, or Octoberfest tent reservation. There are plenty of other tour operators in Munich that can get you elsewhere, Greyline being one, and they are easy to book, either before you leave online or while you're there. We in fact booked a side trip to the Neuschwanstein castle (Disney based his amusement park castle on this), and Oberammagau (home to the once every 10 years passion play and woodcarvers), so my son could see them. You can get about Munich on local transit, which we did to see the BMW museum and the old Olympic Stadium, or other numerous Munich venues to your liking. The train station was not all that far from the hotel, so you can easily get anywhere in Germany or Europe, which we also did after our time In Munich. We will go back at some point and hope we can do it with Spyglass which IS Michael and Ivy. read more

So I wanted to take a moment to review this wonderful company. I had always wanted to go to Oktoberfest so I decided that the year I turned 40 my wife and I would go. After doing a lot of research I came across Spyglass Tours. I was immediately intrigued, but could not find any reviews. As it turned out 2010 was one of their first years doing the Oktoberfest Tour! Michael was honest with me about that in our email conversations. As a result, I put down a deposit right after our conversation. I am so glad I did. We had an amazing time in Munich, we even extended our stay in advance to a week. We loved the low key approach to how they do things. My wife and I like to explore cities on our own as we are seasoned travelers. Spyglass took care of the important details so that all we had to do was show up and enjoy our stay. They greeted us our first night at a Biergarten and gave us information on where and when to meet up for our reservations in a "beer tent". The rest of our time in Munich we wandered the city on our own and took a few tours to the surrounding area as well. Neuschwanstein Castle is worth the trip if you can squeeze it in ( We recommend taking the scenic route over the stream for some amazing photo opportunities). We also took a trip out to Berchtesgaden and the Eagles Nest. Whether you stay in Munich the whole time or venture outside the city, there is no shortage of things to do. You will be glad that you booked with Michael and Ivy. They are fantastic. I would definitely book with them again. read more
