I have found this store to be extremely unprofessional as of late. I signed a contract over 20 years ago and have brought this store a lot of business over the years. I tried to collect my money from having sold clothing however I missed the deadline to collect by 4 months due to health issues. I was treated with disrespect and was asked to stop calling the store (I called 2X) trying to get a hold of "Dave." To be honest - this store has placed out on the floor dirty clothing (from others) yet seem to think they have an elite consignment shop. My daughter brought in 2 full bags of good quality clothing and they put out onot the floor only 3 pieces (likely because they are too full/too crammed/ did not want to sort through her clothes). She had very nice items: LuLulemom, Aritzia, etc.... She was mortified when she found out they donated her clothing. This is NOT a consignment shop I would recommend. Pick any other consignment store and I am 100% confident you will have more satisfaction and be treated with respect. I am planning on calling the Better Business Bureau. While I was impressed with this place at first because I bought a nice winter jacket and a blazer, my experience with the company has shifted to one of regret. When I got home, the Jacket was a good fit but unfortunately the blazer was not so I decided to return it. The attendant said the return policy only included a store credit and that they could not get my money refunded. Even though I found that weird I respected the policy and accepted their offer of a gift card to use within the next 6 month. The gift card is not even up to the original amount of the item returned and I find this highly dubious. I mean why should I not get the exact amount back as store credit? Anyways, I am not happy with my first experience here. Do better. read more

I dropped a full bin of clothing on January 11th and found out today that only 3 items from the bin were accepted. There was a note written in my file that claimed the items I had dropped off were "too worn", which is absolutely not true. The bin was full of Volcom and Levis jeans with no holes, stains or wearing on the knees (some of the newest pairs had only been worn less than 10 times). There were also several brand name hoodies and flannels that were in very good used condition. In fact, I bought a Hurley hoodie from the store that day, one that was EXACTLY the same as one I had dropped off, just one size larger. I had been consigning there for a decade, and I am well aware of what quality and condition of clothing should be consigned at this store. The management reached out and told me later that the jeans, pants, shirts, and hoodies I dropped off were almost exclusively "winter items" and that they were not accepting those. I am unclear exactly when basic wardrobe items such as those listed above became considered "winter" items in Calgary. This is also not what I was told by the staff when I was in the store and when I called later, and seems like a fabrication on the part of the management. Frankly, the owner can claim anything they want regarding the clothes that were dropped off and you just have to rely on their honesty. I will not recommend them nor use them again. read more

15 years ago I opened a consignment account at Sproutz Kidz, now known as Sproutz & U Turn Consignment. I have consigned, purchased and cashed out earnings from the store regularly since then. The other day I called about my consignment dollar balance and was shocked to hear it had expired, as my last consigned item had sold over one year ago. $253.44 from my account into theirs!! I did not realize that this could even happen, not once in the 15 years has anyone from the store mentioned this policy, nor is there ever a reminder of it in emails that get sent out on a regular basis. I feel this a real lack of transparency. The following weekend, I went to the store to make sure this was correct, and to mention about the importance of customer relations/goodwill etc. That didn't go well. The owner, who was out but who I spoke to on the phone eventually, said I had been abusing her staff and customers and yelling at them, she "knows" this because she can see it all on her live audio/video store recording, and called me a horrible, horrible person. I was told to leave the store immediately or she would call the police. Also, she said, "I know where you live." (I did not yell or abuse anyone altho I did tie up one clerk's time for 20 or 30 minutes and did tell two customers what had happened to my money) She has since emailed me a copy of my agreement where I signed agreeing to contact the store when my contract expires, and that any money not claimed within one year of ending the contract will become the store's property. How does a contract expire? The latest is that if I enter the store it will be trespassing and she will call the police. She has offered to mail out $22, the last batch of money to "expire". I want my entire $253.44. Keeping the first 60 or 70% of what my items sold for is fine, but keeping 100% is not acceptable. I'm not alone here. She has said that to cash me out would be extremely unfair to the hundreds of people who have also had their accounts "expire" in the same time period. Please be aware of the status of your account and agreement with this store. The newer agreement is worded differently, mine is the old 2005 one. read more

This has been our go to consignment store since it's opening. From babies to now teenagers we have always been able to find what we need here and know that it's going to be in good shape and good quality. They take the time to filter the stained, stretched and worn out from the racks. Also a great place to consign your clothes, with a pretty decent payback for clothes you bring in. Really nice consignment store!! Best one I've certainly been to in my life! They have a gorgeous store, neat displays and tons of toys and clothes! The selection is great. They have some adorable tutu's for girls too. I shopped here for infant toys the other day. The toys are clean and work! I found the toys to also be inexpensive. One toy that retailed for $40 bucks sold for $4!! What a bargain! Definitely worth it! I will be going here again! July 1st and Boxing Day everything in the store is 50% off. Even the adult section and designer jeans! (and just to comment on the last review...the first paragraph pretty much said how much he didn't want to be there in the first place...what a stupid and inaccurate review!) read more

This is a fantastic store and I have brought my kids clothes and purchased here for years....I have to say the owner is very uninformed and has no problem allowing me to spend $80 In Her store while criticizing and reprimanding me for allowing my kid to be free and play in the store which every kid I have seen in there does...awful owner ...great store...such a shame she was so threatened by a mother wanting to buy clothes for her kids. I believe Sproutz has recently had some turnaround in staff, and there are some friendlier people there. They also did some slight remodelling. With that in mind, there are still the occasional unfriendly staff members inside, but overall I greatly enjoy my experiences at Sproutz and love the feeling of discovering a $200 pair of jeans for $12. read more

Went to Sproutz this morning with friends who have a small daughter. They were looking to pick up some clothing for her and I was hungover, tagging along, and excited about Italy vs Spain in the Eurocup 2012 final. As we walk from the car we see signs in the windows clearly indicating a sale. The sun is warm - finally - on my face and I fumble with my glasses, bothered by water spots revealed by the searing rays. "Do you have an invitation? " The harsh voice skewers deep into my hangoverheadache like the prongs of a meat fork into steak. I laugh to cover the startle and the pain inflicted by the voice and we respond that we don't. "Well you need to have one of these invitations to get in. " The young woman says with a scowl shaking a pile of inkjet-stained copy paper in our direction. "You need to have one of these to be allowed on the premises. " My head swims for meaning. Can this really be so? "Have we been bounced from a second hand store? " one of my Sunday morning bargain hunting compadres questions. "I'm sorry, I just can't let you in without an invitation. " The secondhand store bouncette's resolution is obvious so we turn tail to chase the next bargain. I've seen and done a lot of unusual things in my day but never have I been denied the basic human right to browse and sometimes procure the items castoff as of having next to know value to the previous owner. read more

I'm a mom to a little boy and he'll be my only one so I try to visit the second hand stores to see what's available as he goes through things quite quickly. And there have been times when he's barely worn an item. Sproutz has been the best I've found so far. We definitely buy his jeans there - little ones never wear their jeans out and I'm not paying $30+ for Gap new! The selection has generally been good and most of the clothes in decent shape. Plus they donate what doesn't get sold and also discount things heavily as time goes by. And they carry everything - swim diapers, toys, books, clothes so it's worth digging around a bit for those little items too. I have visited many of the other second hand shops in Calgary and they just don't compare - small, cramped, little selection, etc. Sproutz can be jammed with things so it is sometimes necessary to search through a lot of things. And I did notice they seemed to have a lot of things which might be a bit worn last time I was there but given my treasures found in the past, I will keep going back! read more

I found the prices to be high for a consignment store. They wanted $50 for a small bag of dirty old used Lego that had fake Lego mixed in. The clothing was outrageous and cheaper at Winners for the same items only new. I won't go back. read more

I've used this store for nearly 10 years but after this week's unbelievable lack of customer service, I'm closing my account. The store seems to have made a mistake on my account and wiped out the amount of money they owed me from items sold. Instead of apologizing and looking into the matter, they told me I would have to pay for their accountant's services if I wanted them to look into it. Can't believe the scam they're running there. I am a very regular shopper and consignor at Sproutz. I stopped in today and we purchased a fair amount of things. I forgot until after I had paid for my stuff that I had a 20% off coupon. I asked if I could still use it. Was told no. Disappointed by that. At most stores, they are happy to allow you to use their coupons even after the fact. Felt their was some rigidness and just plain arrogance from the staff. Not a lot of flexability or willingness to accommodate a regular customer. read more

Sprouts Kidz/U-Turn is also an adult consignment store. Any time I've gone in I find it extremely difficult to shop as the clothing on the racks is so jammed together. It's exhausting! The staff, for the most part, haven't been very friendly either, and the prices are high for what you get. If I didn't have money on my account I would never go back! read more

There is no service here. I went in to buy a shirt and asked for help in finding what I needed. The woman was focused on ticketing items. She told me that this is consignment and I just look myself. 'In consignment they don't serve". I was in a rush and insisted I needed some help. I was given the dirtiest look (the owner?) who slowly made her way to assist and was quite rude. Unfortunately I had to go back one more time (convenience of location) however thought it can't be as bad as before. Well two of us were waiting to pay (one customer with loads to buy) and the girl behind the counter ignored us as she was 'processing' items. I asked her to help the first woman and process later as customers should take priority. This place shouldn't be in business if they don't think it is within their job to help customers. They seem to think they are not in a customer service or sales business. I shop Vespuccis (consignment for adults) and asked them if they think consignment is about no service and they said it is all service. If someone wants help, that is their job. Needless to say they were shocked when they heard of my experiences at Sproutz. Just one another note....the items overall seem worn. I have been to used kids clothing places in other cities and the quality was much better as well as pricing. I won't be back as I don't need 3 strikes to know this place should not be in business. read more

I have been a shopper at Sproutz for 10 years. I LOVE this store. You can take in what your kids have outgrown, and leave with a bag FULL of stuff for a fraction of what it would cost elsewhere. Yes, sometimes things seem priced higher than you'd expect. Usually designer items. There is plenty of good deals, you just have to look. I have had the odd occasion with what others post as rigid rules. You just need to know what they are, and guide yourself accordingly. Not 100% ideal, but for the prices that you can get, well worth that inconvenience (that happens once in a while). You need to take your time, be patient and look. If you are in a hurry, would not recommend going. If you are expecting the same level of organization and service as places where you pay full price, I would also not recommend going. read more

I rarely write reviews-- I was in today (first time) Thought I would grab a few toys for my son and daughter-- as previous posts have mentioned, the prices are high for a consignment store. When I was done my shopping I had asked the lady at the front desk if I could return this little puppet show toy I had picked out for my daughter, she said "I could return it within 2 days". I said "awesome! I'll take it then" thinking to myself if my daughter doesn't like it or if it's missing pieces I'll just bring it back. Once I got it home I realized it was a bit weird of a toy and felt like it was missing pieces but because it didn't have the original packaging I didn't know. So I took it back to the store, literally 2 hours later. Long story short the lady behind the desk (along with the man-- who I am assuming is one of the owners) Wouldn't give me my money back and told me that it was a store credit or exchange only. SUPER disappointing, I even tried to tell the lady (same lady who sold me it) that she never mentioned that it was only a store credit or exchange when I asked about the return policy. If I would have known that it was a store credit or exchange only I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. The man and lady (and to be honest, all of the staff) were extremely rude. The lady who told me the exchange policy lied when I confronted her about it, and quite honestly I have no time for liars-- which is why I am writing this review. I would just like to say that I probably would have bought more toys from the store, and probably would have spent MORE then my store credit, but just the way the situation was handled, just terribly-- I will not be returning. I should have just given my store credit to a customer in line. TERRIBLY RUDE STAFF and AWFUL customer service. I went to Sproutz tp return a brand new pair of boots (Stones) that I bought for my daughter for Christmas. I used some of the money from my Sproutz account to pay for the boots so I did not hold on to the receipt because I felt that it would be easy to look up the transaction. Unfortunately, the boots were to small so I needed to exchange them for a larger size. I had the boots with tags attached and I brought them back to Sproutz. I grabbed the larger size and walked up to the counter. When I told them that I was there to exchange the items, I was told that they would not exchange without a valid receipt. i said that I had bought the boots on my Sproutz account and they could just look up the transaction. They told me that their system does not show the transactions, just the most current balance. They were rude and unhelpful and absolutely would not exchange the boots, for the exact same boots in a larger size. So now I am left with a pair of boots that are too small for my daughter. I was most concerned about the fact that they are unable to look up any transactions on the account. If you take clothing to Sproutz, make sure you are aware that they are unable to track any transactions on your account. read more
