We arrived at 8 am on 4-13-2022 to find his fiancé had set up on a great spot until we arrived. They were both great with the kids. They were true guides in every since of the word. In total we caught 13 fish.

One gentleman was kind enough to hook a trailer up to the truck (normally used for hay rides) and took all the kids for a ride on the back trails. The petting zoo is small but sweet, the kids loved spending time with the animals. The grounds & views are spectacular. They had a band & beautiful fireworks for the 4th. My understanding is they usually have a band & small celebration on Memorial & Labor Day wknds. They do something special for Halloween (although idk how scary it gets). Cox Camping is much more than a typical campground, they want their campers to have a great time & do everything in their power to ensure it. I don't know of any other campground that does the same.

Karen and Don gave us a walking tour of the area and showed us all kinds of interesting flora and fauna. We had such a wonderful time relaxing, hiking, and enjoying the scenery. They had great tips on what to do in the area. Don gives fly fishing lessons and is a patient teacher. We had a fantastic breakfast and lots of interesting conversation. I think Karen and Don know something about everything. It was great. I was sorry that we had to be on our way. The good news is this is a 4 seasons area. I'm sure it's beautiful in the fall and is a short drive to Wisp Resort for winter skiing.

We used the strap that came with the cooler tube to strap my youngest child's tube to another one. One employee told us we could purchase another strap to tether them together but then the employee in the shop kind of scoffed and said it wouldn't necessary. It was definitely necessary! We had to paddle after all the kids cause their arms and legs are too short to even reach the water and paddle themselves. The employees really didn't do a whole lot of customer service so I'm not really sure the tip (which was paid in advance) was worth it. We even had to carry all our tubes all the way back up the hill after we finished. The river itself is mostly calm and it is a beautiful area. But there was quite a bit of algae/scum in the slower moving water which grossed out the kids lol. And the island where we stopped to each lunch had some trash on it. Overall tubing was a good experience but the $200+ price felt like a lot for what it was.

The places to tie off your boat are gone with nails sticking out everywhere and after water levels rise there's always thick mud on the concrete pad. If you have a good size boat the water around the ramp can get pretty shallow. Also, there's a lot of people who come there that can't read the rules and trash the place. When the upkeep is good and not muddy it's a good ramp.

We caught more fish than I could count, including several nice smallmouth bass, and some large sunnies. Brian was an excellent guide who put me on the fish, let me switch between spinning rods and fly rods, sorted me out when I got hung up, and engaged with me with some great conversation. The boat was top notch and was the perfect vessel for fishing a river like the Shenandoah too - it's got a jet propulsion engine that gets you anywhere you need to go, and Brian is ready on the oars to always ensure you are facing in the direction of the fish. I definitely plan to do another trip with Rivergoat in the future!
