What a great place. Having been a longtime patron of the Rex Hotel back when it was first restored…read morein the 1980s, imagine the delight when you find an old haunt reimagined and refreshed for today's patrons. The interior is western themed, naturally, and overstuffed with atmosphere not to mention the seats. Great views of the bar and kitchen, you can watch a crew hard at work. The courtyard seating remains delightful but on a Billings Friday night in the historic railroad district it was loud, but good times. The setting and service are top-notch. The Menu is expansive for a Montana steakhouse, lots, lots of choices besides the beef, with wonderful sides, and salads. Solid wine and beer list but imaginative cocktails. Do try the Orange Nor'easter, a blend of bourbon, ginger beer, maple syrup and ginger beer that is a great summer drink. The NY strip was superb--wish the more expensive places back in the east would send their folks out west to learn how to grill steak. Seared with a crispy outside but perfect medium rare on the inside. The steak bites appetizer was a meal into itself, and spot on in its prep. Loved the deluxe mashed potatoes. Beet salad was fresh and zingy. Even the bread service was superior. The wait staff did a great job of explaining everything. But they couldn't convince us to do desserts--bet they are top notch too. Maybe next time. We opted for another round of cocktails on a warm summer night when at this place Billings lived up to its motto of being the "Magic City"

If you're looking for a steakhouse in Billings, this is the spot!…read more We wanted a really good last meal in Billings and wanted local beef. This was definitely the right move. The meat portions are huge, like 16-20 ounces for each cut, so unless you're starving, definitely consider splitting between two people. Each cut is served a la carte with the sides meant to share for the table. I didn't do that and ordered the butter aged ribeye, and my husband and I shared the escargot, lobster mac and cheese, and their vegetable of the day which was a stuffed pepper. The steak was INCREDIBLE. I finished it all, even though I was then very full for multiple days. I loved the escargot as well, it was so cheesy and buttery. The Mac and cheese is also a stand out, definitely order it, so delicious. The stuffed peppers weren't great, I didn't really like them. They had too much going on flavor-wise that didn't really work. If I were to go back, I'd get a more standard steakhouse side like broccoli or asparagus. To drink, I ordered the gin fizz. It had little bits of lavender on top and you could really taste it in each sip, but it wasn't overpowering. Very delish. The service was great throughout the evening. I also thought the restaurant was beautiful with tall ceilings, beautiful bar, and the tables and chairs were beautiful (and comfortable).

It's a big order - the size and shape of a pizza, and less like a taco. Don't mistake it for an authentic Mexican dish. Fry bread meets basic taco - but a fun comfort dish. The Buffalo cheeseburger was good with fresh ingredients but the taco is the reason to stop. Service was super friendly- really nice people.

After eating two thoroughly mediocre Indian Tacos in the past couple of days, I was excited seeing…read morethe signs advertising the Indian Taco at Custer Battlefield Trading Post Cafe as being the best in the west. As I walked in, I saw posters stating that this restaurant was recommended by Oprah herself. Very promising! Frybread with Honey ($8.99) - The frybread here is fantastic! As with most frybreads, it's a plate-sized frisbee of fried dough, although irregular in thickness and leavening. Some areas have the chew and puff like a doughnut, while other areas are almost completely hollow almost like pita bread. The frybread is crisp on outside without being overly greasy. It goes so well with the honey they provide in a squeeze bottle delivered to your table. I would eat this as-is again and again. (5/5) Indian Taco ($14.95) - Now, take the excellent frybread and use it as a base to ladle on seasoned ground beef with beans, chopped romaine lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, diced tomato, and black olives. Instead of dousing the top with salsa (might be pico since it's quite thick and not runny at all), it's thoughtfully served in a cup on the side so you can dress the salad to your liking. I actually preferred it this way as I found the salsa to be very salty. The dish also comes with a packet of sour cream on the side. I found the beef to be ground a little too well. Instead of a traditional ground beef texture, it kind of felt like frozen burrito-style extruded beef. Not the best texture, but I guess more authentic? (4/5) One of the issues we found was with the cups and silverware - both smelled kind of musty, like they weren't properly dried. I guess just don't sniff them and you'll be fine? Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the food served at Trading Post Cafe. I definitely recommend the frybread if you're visiting Little Bighorn Bathrooms: At least one individual unisex room in the store

We ordered two burgers, which were fairly average and not quite what you might expect from a high-end steakhouse. That said, the fries were excellent--crispy, well-seasoned, and easily the highlight of the meal. At first, the burgers seemed fine, just not particularly memorable. However, as we continued eating, they became noticeably dry. We also realized that the cheddar cheese was missing from both burgers, and my wife's avocado was also not included. We later learned that condiments like mayo, ketchup, mustard, etc. are provided only upon request on the side, which would have been helpful to know upfront. My wife and I were engaged in a good conversation and our waitress was busy but still attentive, so it wasn't until we were most of the way through the meal that we discovered the issues. When we brought it to Louisa's attention she contacted the manager who was very understanding and kindly credited the burgers from our bill, which we appreciated and felt was more than fair. Tonight we were simply in the mood for a lighter, more casual dinner, and while the burgers missed the mark, the overall experience and service still reflect a restaurant we would return to.
