Let's be real, I had low expectations of this joint and they weren't even met. It's a hole in the wall in Forsyth, MT. Not exactly the destination for fine dining. The poor girl was working by herself, and I think that really slow things down. She was the waitress and the cook and doing all the day-to-day things that the diner requires. Stopped here for breakfast before Cody, WY. Spouse ordered omelets, hashbrowns and biscuits and gravy. I ordered a fried egg and toast. We shared the biscuits and gravy and I ate my 4 pieces of toast. I was still so stuffed, I missed out on prime rib buffet at Hotel Irma as I was still full. It's a scruffy local joint, filled with locals for sure. But you knew that and when you pull up outside you will see it no doubt. But com'on in and you will have a good meal, filling and delicious and for a decent price. If it's Tuesday and the other restaurants are closed then you can join the others here for dinner. I drive across the country on US 12 a couple of times every year - and always stop at the Speedway for a meal. Breakfasts are super, and my wife thinks that the chicken-fried steak is the best anywhere! I love their liver & onions - the baked potato is perfect. Beer and drinks are available in the bar in the historic hotel next door (the waitress will fetch for you). Nothing fancy, but it features good home-made salads and food. I've never had any room for dessert, so can't comment on them. The mural is really something! It's 3-D and a work in progress. Not much more has been done since my last trip, but all of the artist's tools are there. read more

Great food! Old cafe charm! Lots of locals come here so you know it's good. Clean and yummy.

We stopped at the Speedway on our way back to the East coast and it was a welcome detour. The service was excellent, though we were the only ones there at the time. The mural is amazing - I'm so glad I got to see it in person. Not only that, but we were able to meet the artist as he stopped in halfway through our meal. There aren't lots of places to chose from in Forsyth that aren't bars to eat at. There is a pizza place there. However, the Speedway Diner has a fantastic mural on the wall that provided lots of entertainment and the kids enjoyed it thoroughly. It's typical cafe good and if you can look past the dates surroundings it was an OK place to eat. read more

Good food! Beef Noodle soup was awesome. Actual salad and soup bar! Come here every time I am passing by on 94. Connected to historic hotel and depot across the street. Malts and shakes are delicious! Everything is homemade! Waiting for my pie now! New amazing mural being added to one whole wall. It is still a work in progress. This is small town America and I love it. We showed up at 8 and the waitress had left 30 minutes previous according to the cook. That didn't matter this guy took care of our family of 7 and 4 others no problem. He stayed till after closing at 9. The outside looks sketch, but the food was fine. Wasn't the greatest experience. The bacon cheeseburger was awesome! The seats at the dining bar are all wobbly and seem unsafe. The ranch was clumpy and the food at the salad bar didn't look very safe to eat at all. It seemed to take a really long time to get our order to us. In town for Quigley Match, food is ok, but this place is severely understaffed. We thought the wait/service last year was bad, but ouch. The owners need to get those kids some help. I think they only had two guys (cook and server) working the dinner shift on a Saturday night. read more

The name speedway is an oxymoron. Every time I have been here, it has taken more than an hour to get our food. You would think that they could have more than 1 waitress and 1 cook during breakfast hours. Especially considering the Quigley was taking place, easily bringing 400+ people to the community for the weekend. read more

Staff is friendly and food was good. Furnishings are dated but that is to be expected in a small town. We enjoyed our experience.
