The Novel Baker - Coffee and espresso bar, dessert display

It's upsetting to write this review because I have used the Novel Baker in the past and they did do…read morea good job, but I'm not sure if they just don't have the capacity. We ordered from Alexis, the owner at the bakery, last September and my husband spoke to her over the phone, placed the order, and we picked it up with no issues. I reached out via their website 3 weeks ago to get 2 smash cakes, 24 cake pops, and 24 cupcakes for my son's 1st birthday (very simple order). She did not respond back for over a week and we went back and forth via email. I asked for a phone call to just sort the order out a few times and she refused. She just kept asking for me to fill out the order form...again....and again...and again. Her emails made absolutely no sense to find out that she uses ChatGPT which was why. She wasn't even responding to my emails as herself even when I told her how upset I was. I left her multiple voicemails and have still not heard from her...only ChatGPT. Now with the party being only a week away, I could not rely on Alexis as I can't even get ahold of her so found another option.

She took the time even though she was very busy to individually wrap the cupcakes and tie them with a bow in the cutest box. She also gave us instructions on how to defrost them since they were frozen for the night. When I finally got home and was able to enjoy the cupcake, it was one of the best treats I've had in a very long time! it was perfectly sweet and just the right size for a nighttime snack. The store itself is absolutely beautiful and a delicate surprise for the Doylestown area. I can't wait to go back and try some other wonderfully displayed desserts and have a freshly made espresso from their beautiful equipment. The store is very large with lots of parking, but I absolutely recommend bringing a friend to grab a coffee and a treat together. This would be a cute place to have a few people for a small girls birthday!

When I arrived after a very good Mexican lunch further up York Road there wasn't much to choose from in their display case. A few pastries were about all there was. Not a loaf of bread to be found. The young woman behind the counter was friendly and helpful, but she couldn't provide what I was really looking for, great brownies or a fresh fruit pie or coffee cake to take home. So, I opted for a Carrot Cake pastry and a large Chocolate Chip Cookie. Both were adequate, but less than the rapturous experience I was hoping for. The Choco Chip was very sweet and crunchy, but without many chocolate chips. The Carrot Cake looked great, but its flavor was muted. The cake was not as moist as I anticipated, and the icing with a mild light cream texture, as opposed to the heavier cream cheese topping I was expecting. Not at all what I was craving. Sure, it may have saved me from calories and a diabetic coma, but I was looking for a small splurge. This place clearly was too healthy and sensible for my moment seeking temporary indulgences. Although the cafe was cozy and sat at sidewalk level, it just didn't "pop" for me. Perhaps, a better time would permit more satisfying results. 3.5 Patisserie Etoiles.

I also am fully aware it's a small business and with inflation prices are bound to increase but I felt very ripped off. I bought 4 cupcakes - they're $3.50 each - totally fine. Thats $14. I also bought 3 macarons which the girl said were $1.25 each, also totally reasonable. So now I'm at $17.75 Tell me how I spent $41 and change when the only other things I bought were 3 decorated sugar cookies and 6 petit fours. That means I spent $23 on 3 cookies and 6 petit four. Maybe that's an okay price actually . If the cookie were 4 that'd be 12 and then I spent 11 on those cakes. Sure I guess the price isn't bad. Everything was beautiful by the way. But the cupcakes weren't filled. Again not bad for the price. And the petit fours were not the traditional layered I'm used to. Maybe I just expected more ? Again nothing per se is expensive. And the quality isn't bad either I just don't ever leave loving anything I've purchased. My petit fours also got stuck to the wrappers so I had to eat paper. I just wish I could go in here and order something and know I'll love it. I'd spend more if that were the case ! Again- not a bad review. I know my best friend loves their pastries - but it's just not a place for me anymore to get what I love. I wish them the best and many more years ahead!

Asked for a beautiful but simple semi-naked cake, and they delivered. It was half chocolate and vanilla with the most luscious smooth icing. The cake was beautiful and Kevin was able to add a plaque to the top that we needed. They did everything we asked, and it was so delicious and I would highly recommend them for any occasion. Whether it's a cake, donut, sticky bun, or a fresh cuppa coffee, this is the place to go. So happy with our decision. The cake was perfect and we enjoyed working with Kevin and Katy so much. I wish I could give them more stars, they deserve it! Thank you for making the ending to our rehearsal dinner a huge sweet success.

I used to love their crumb cake, but now it's awful. First off, the crumb is too loaded with cinnamon- that's all you taste. The cake is not traditional crumb cake, it' just basic yellow cake. All of their Danish and scones are drenched in powdered sugar glaze...it's just too much sweetness and at $3,75 each, not worth the price. They could really take a lesson here from Crossroads Bakery in Doylestown, whose pastry are fantastic! The donuts are so small they fit into the center of the palm of your hand and $2.75 each! Do they realize that is $33.00 a dozen???? Yum Yum Donuts are $18 a dozen and twice the size. Honestly, Brown's has gone downhill fast.
