We sent our dog to Spot for a few months earlier this year when we first moved to Decatur. We were grateful to have a convenient location right around the corner from my work and the prices seemed fair. My first impression of the place was walking in a being met with an overwhelming smell. We've been to other daycares and know this is not how it should smell. But, we figured our dog sniffs others' butts so maybe smell doesn't really bother her. Second impression was that the staff kinda seemed half-baked half the time but we figured hey, dog people aren't always people-people. We get it. They just seemed like minimal effort kind of people (we literally got a free stay one time because they had already shut the computer off before we picked her up and they didn't feel like turning it back on...we weren't even late). We never got any bad notes about our dog when we picked her up but we started noticing some things that caused a lot of concern and ultimately led us to pull her out. The first was one time when we came to pick her up, we could see her through the window of a small room that shared a wall with the entrance corridor. She was sitting by herself on the concrete floor, up against the glass just waiting for us to get her. There were a few other little dogs in the room (ours is about 45lbs) but there were no humans, no bedding, no toys, and there was mess everywhere. She was just sitting there looking bored to tears. Not ok. The second was another time we came to pick her up and brought her home. We kept smelling a weird smell and when we inspected her when we got home, we found she had dried urine *caked* on her elbow. There is absolutely no telling how long it had been there and no one bothered to clean her?? How dirty is your facility that there are just puddles lying around not being cleaned that our dog laid in? We brought it to their attention the next time we took her in and told them we did not want to see that again. We asked if they knew what happened, but they said they had no clue where it came from. We understand mess happens, it's a place full of animals. But it was very visible on her white arm. The least they could have done was clean it off for her/us. But they didn't even notice? Again, not ok! The final straw came when we picked her up a few times later and saw a puncture wound on her side when we got home. It had been bleeding and didn't look like anything was done to clean it (which is concerning given how dirty this place apparently is). Not to mention, NO ONE reached out to us that there had been an incident or said ANYTHING to us when we picked her up. Why? Because they had NO IDEA it had even happened!! This time we called them directly about it and asked what happened and they said they were completely unaware of a situation. Um, wtf?? So our dog gets punctured and you can't tell us the story? Like I said, half-baked! SO NOT OK!!! We never sent her back after that! We gave them a thousand chances despite our reservations and they just kept proving us right that we should have been hesitant from the start with that bad smell. TLDR: This place is filthy and they do not keep up with your dog. We recommend literally anywhere else! There are plenty of others to choose from in town. read more

I am so grateful to Spot for Dogs. The staff is attentive and knew our Simon by name following his first time at the facility. Ben who works the front is a perfect representative for the business, pricing is honest and well-worth it, and Simon absolutely LOVES to "go to camp." You can tell that the staff really care about and love the dogs as their own!! Not to mention the cost is so affordable. I also really appreciate the cage free environment as well, especially since my dog has crate anxiety. My experience with boarding has been so wonderful too. I've never felt so confident that my dog will be loved and properly taken care of! We LOVE spot!! We've tried several daycares in the city, but we keep coming back to Spot. The staff are friendly, communicative, and efficient at getting dogs in and out. Staff seem to genuinely love what they do. Our dog can play all day, and that's exactly what he does at Spot. There are no gimmicks here, and they don't push you to purchase any extra services or items. They don't have webcams, but it's easy to see what the dogs are up to on Instagram, and the dogs are in plain view from the lobby as well - they are not hidden behind a wall, like at many other daycares. I love that they enforce masking in the lobby and even did outdoor drop offs/pick ups during the omicron surge. These people care about not only dogs, but their humans too! The only downside I can think of is that the driveway to access the parking lot is small, and now that they share the driveway with Village Vets, it's an even tighter squeeze. I'm grateful we have Spot as our pup's "home away from home!" It's also evident that many other dog parents agree because they frequently fill up to capacity for weekday daycare, and holiday boarding is ALWAYS full weeks in advance. The dogs get to run around and play with other dogs basically all day for a really great price. Plus, their staff is super friendly and thorough! Other dogs are safe for yours to play with because they check for vaccinations and do a temperament test first for your dog -- they slowly introduce 1 dog at a time to see how your dog reacts. The owner even comp'd 1 of our dogs stay there because our 2nd was getting her tempt test done! Prices? $25 for the entire day (M-F hours are 7am-7pm, they're open on weekends too!) Mowgli has been going to Spot for Dogs for the last two months since we moved here from Colorado. I was very nervous to start him in a new daycare since he had been going to the same person his whole life prior. Mowgli is a little timid and can be a proverbial "Scaredy Cat". He comes home tired and happy every single time we go and I can leave him there with 100% peace of mind knowing he's in kind, loving hands. One of my absolute favorite parts of my day is getting an instagram notification of them tagging me in stories and pictures of him having fun. By far one of the best perks of being there! I'm not a big advocate for the video cameras and livestream, but fun pictures here and there is an amazing touch. I will also note that whenever I've had a question regarding anything dog related, they have been extremely helpful as well. I'd like to preface my review with two items: 1) After our experience at SPOT, I sent an email to the main email address explaining my concerns and asking to speak to someone. I received a call within 2 hours from the location manager. He listened patiently to my concerns and did explain that some disciplinary action may be taken against the employee we interacted with. 2) Because of #1 above, I actually wasn't going to write a review - I felt like it was wrong since the staff did try to make amends from our bad experience. However, since visiting SPOT, Luna has now been to two different daycares no less than a dozen times (not to mention dog parks and playdates). She plays with up to 30 dogs big and small. She has never had ONE SINGLE issue - and believe me, I've asked. The experience has been so overwhelmingly positive that I felt the need to say something about SPOT. (We take her to both Countryside Pet Estates by my office and The Ark Pet Hotel & Spa and I have written reviews for both if you're curious about how different the experience can be). I also say this to make it clear that, while my dog is NOT perfect, I'm also not just a crazy dog parent. We adopted Luna from a shelter a few months ago and were looking for a daycare option for her. SPOT came recommended by a friend, so I reached out to them by phone. I explained - in great detail - Luna's history and my concerns about a daycare environment for a shelter dog. I was reassured multiple times by the very nice woman on the phone that the first day would include a "temperament test" where Luna would be introduced very slowly (key words here) to members of the pack. She reassured me that she herself raised numerous shelter dogs and all of the staff were well trained in dog behavior, and told me she'd be there when I dropped Luna off. From the minute I walked in, I had a bad feeling. SPOT has one very large pen area and two smaller pen areas. The large pen had about 30+ dogs in it, and it was pandemonium. I'm not exaggerating, and like I said, I've been to two other daycares since then. Barking, squealing, dogs peeing on the floor, dogs being humped by other dogs, dogs aggressively playing with each other, and one employee "supervising" them. As I was leaving, I pointed out two dogs who were fighting to another employee, and got a response of "yeah, I guess I'll let someone know." In the other pen, there were no employees present. I saw no more than 3 people the entire time I was there, to at least 60 dogs. I was later told that 4 staff members were working that day. Other reviews about the smell are accurate. I don't care about the staff's age, but I care that the young man I interacted with was completely checked out. He handed me some paperwork, waved me in the direction of the lunch bucket, and walked off. As he dropped off my dog (now shivering with her tail between her legs) with another staff member, I overheard "wellll, she's a rescue." EXCUSE ME?! I've discussed this in detail with the manager, but suffice it to say: it takes two minutes to make a new dog parent feel comfortable. I received a call NINE MINUTES after leaving that my dog had failed her "temperament test" and to come pick her up. Apparently SPOT's idea of a "slow introduction" is to put her in the small run, on leash, and start dumping dogs one by one into the same space. It's an unfamiliar environment and unfamiliar people, and if you have time to introduce her to two dogs in nine minutes, that's not a "slow introduction." In any case, she barked and growled at one dog, she was deemed "aggressive" and "unfit for daycare," and I was told to come pick her up. I was later told that they "rushed her temperament test because they needed to use the run for other dogs." Don't tell me that you're a "small mom and pop shop" full of "dog people" who can assess a dog's behavior after nine minutes. You didn't even take a few minutes to make my dog comfortable before throwing her out. Anyone who knows anything about dog behavior will tell you that a loud environment with limited supervision is going to cause dogs to engage in aggressive behavior thinking they need to be in control. Introducing dogs on leash can aggravate this behavior. I won't go into detail, but the other two daycares took multiple hours making her comfortable before even introducing her to another dog. I'll finish with this: I have two friends who have taken their dogs to SPOT, and BOTH of them have had their dogs bitten or attacked there. Sure, the offending dogs were quickly removed, but those aren't odds I like to play with. If you have an extremely well-socialized dog who is comfortable with noise, all other dogs, no supervision, rolling in pee, being humped, and learning bad behavior, this is a conveniently located daycare. I would recommend that any other dog parent, particularly those of rescue dogs, look elsewhere. I am happy to provide recommendations to that end. read more

We took our pup here and they treated him so well! There's a temper test your dog has to undergo to ensure it'll get along with the other dogs. If you want your baby fed at all or to have a break, they accommodate that. They separate big dogs from the small dogs. They have packages for 10 days that is fairly priced if you don't want to do individual payments. The staff are great and take the time to love up on all the dogs. Highly recommend! read more

I have brought my dog here a handful of times and had subpar experiences. One women in particular has been extremely rude and short with me on THREE occasions. I was hassled about how long my dog would be there and the time I planned on picking him up. I work from home and chose this daycare because I liked the idea of hourly care, but was essentially chastised for not buying a 10 full day packages. This last time my dog was only there for only 2.5 hours, but when I went to pick him up, he was in a private room in the back I was told was for "naps and lunch at request." Given that my dog is under two years old and high energy I never would've requested this and was disappointed to see that his daycare experience was being KENNELED in the back. We've been to multiple daycares all over the country and this was a very disappointing experience. read more

The people here are lovely, the facility seems very dog friendly (some outdoor space and an agility ramp to play on). The dogs are very sweet as well. I also like the fact that SPOT has someone stay overnight with boarders. ------------------------------------ The main reason we won't be going back is the level of cleanliness on the day we came. If you have an outside dog, or you don't care how your dog smells - this place is perfect. But if you keep your dog super clean, then I wouldn't recommend it. Yes, dogs get "sweaty" like kids - totally agree. They have the smell of a sweaty little boy's head playing in the summer sun when they've played hard - totally true. Musty, hot, needing an air out - that's how I expect my dog to smell after a hard playtime. But my dog reeeked of FECES when I picked him up. The staff said it had just been a busy day. It had. It was packed. I totally get it. But I just want a place with higher sanitary standards than that. I've tried a lot of places in town now and I can say - no one is perfect. My dog always smells a bit rough when I pick him up - so it's only 1x/week for us because he always needs a bath. But it's never as bad as that day. I've had dogs my whole life, worked in kennels all through highschool (that had a daycare), and know "dogs are dogs". But I don't do feces in my house, my dog gets on my sofa, I put my face on his, and that means he needed a serious scrub when he came home from SPOT. I gave him a hug & he smelled like pure poop. He's submissive & a wild puppy so I'm sure he spent a lot of time of the floor - and that means that floor was filthy. Having worked in a kennel, I can tell you - 40 dogs peeing - yes it's easier/generally seen as acceptable to just rub a mop that's been sitting in a bucket (of cleaner/water that was fresh that morning) over it and call it a day. But I want the place my dog is kept all day to do disinfectant and drying for every accident. That's my idea of a daycare I want to give 25$ a day. It is of note that no daycare in ATL really does a good ENOUGH job of this. It's dirty mops as the standard for cleaning. But some are better than others. That being said - again - I loved the staff. Sweethearts. Very willing to talk with you and give their time, etc. Seemed to love the dogs. Also the dogs seemed happy. My dog had a great time and was tired for 2 whole days. But I kept shopping and found our permanent daycare elsewhere. UPDATE (2/18): Shannon, the owner of SPOT called me personally to discuss my review... She was very nice, receptive to constructive feedback, promised me she'd keep in touch about the new cleaner they were looking to use {she apologized for the crazy day and skeleton crew the day I came and said the new organic cleaners they were trying may not be the best so they were looking to switch these up}. I told Shannon I'd stay posted on updates because I do love the hometown vibe and small business gusto that SPOT has. It's refreshing and reassuring that ownership is very interested in making SPOT the best it can be, and doesn't try to just skim over any boo-boos that are bound to happen along the way :) read more

This place is THE WORST. On several occasions (more than 10) whether I picked my dog up or they delivered him to my home, he was covered in urine and smelled awful. Inexcusable. Also, EVERY time I've walked through the door there is never an adult there. Always teens and twenty somethings who either don't know the difference between urine covered or clean or they just don't care. They group the dogs according to temperament- which is awesome for my high-energy small-ish dog who loves to play with dogs bigger than she. Boarded here twice at the Ponce location. Both times our dog was returned to us with bloody diarrhea all over her. Nobody called to let us know and they seemed surprised when we called to ask if they had noticed anything off during her stay. Most recently she was also limping and had a cut on her paw pad. I have to say Capone seemed a LOT less stressed when I picked him up and is in good spirits. I am glad we have them a try and definitely will be going back on a regular basis. Our dog Gus loves this place! As another reviewer mentioned, our dog has "stranger danger", but not the case here. He feels so safe, and that says a lot about how they treat him. We're taking a last minute trip this weekend and they're booked, so we're having to use a place we've never used before. I'm nervous about it. No place could be as great as SPOT! I'll admit that there have been a few times that we've picked him up and he smelled like pee. Guess what? They're dogs!!! It's bound to happen. I'm sure it's not on purpose...it may have even have happened right before pickup and they didn't have time to notice/do anything about it. I've also noticed other times where it smells like he had a bath, which makes me believe they did notice, care, and did something about it. At no cost. Further, another reviewer mentioned everyone out front are "kids or twenty-somethings". That's just rude. Many "twenty-somethings" have careers, families, own homes, are entrepreneurs, etc. I clearly think that they are responsible enough to watch your dog. Everyone here is wonderful, and anyone who judges others based on age or appearances should be ashamed. We love it here, and most importantly, Gus loves it here! If you've never been, give it a try. When I rescued my pup in December 2011, I tried three different doggy daycares before finding our home in SPOT. I'm EXTREMELY particular when it comes to the care of my pup - and the staff and facilities at SPOT are...... SPOT ON (ha). I wouldn't dream of taking her anywhere else. As another review wrote, they group dogs by temperament....not by size. This is extremely helpful when you have a 40lb dog who thinks she's a big puppy. My dog is always put into the yard with the more energetic dogs and she especially loves playing with the young, fast, small dogs. They run and run..... its awesome to watch them romping together. The manager even sends me video and pics when they are able! If your worried about your young puppy, senior or injured pup - never fear, they give all dogs in need of special attention their own little yard and attendant. The staff is very professional and attentive to our needs. If there's a day where my dog isn't feeling well, they will watch her and make sure she's given some "time out" time in a nice, comfy kennel when she's tired. They also help me work out ongoing issues...... making sure my dog doesn't bark too much, jump on people....or any other issue I tell them i want to work on with her. It's like daily training included! I've boarded my pup at Spot while on vacation a few times, and have never had an issue. It makes me sleep easier at night knowing there is a staff member on the premises 24/7 to check on the dogs. They are never left alone. As for the reviewer that complained her dog smelled after her daycare sessions...guess what Miss..... dogs sweat when they play just like people. It's called DOG SMELL - and it washes out. If you're that worried about it - Spot offers bathing services as well. The staff is tops, very attentive. The yards are always kept clean and the fence and barriers are reinforced annually. My dog is a "jumper" and I never fear that she'll escape as she has other daycares here in Atlanta. All dogs are pre-checked for vaccinations, temperament (can they get along with multiple dogs), and they must be spayed or neutered after a certain age. Spot is our home away from home. I could never fathom using another daycare or boarding facility in Atlanta. read more

Just an update that SPOT is still our dogs' favorite place to play and board when we're traveling. In addition to my small dog, my boyfriend now takes his larger dog to SPOT. They both go to daycare every Friday for additional exercise and socialization and always come home tired but happy. We're grateful to have a place we can trust to take such great care of our pups while we're traveling, too. SPOT has been great not only for our dogs for socialization, but a friend with a very timid rescue gave them a try and it did wonders for her dog's temperament, allowing her to be much more relaxed around other dogs and people. This place is the greatest. They took care of my little pup like nobody else. I have a small dog, and she gets very nervous around the big dogs, and also pretty sad when I have to leave town. So the wonderful people at Spot took her in and gave her some very individual attention. They went so far as to let her sleep close to them on the night shift. Now, I know I have one really special dog, but they made me believe that they felt that way, too. I've tried other boarders, but have found that many hire people that aren't passionate about pets, or they are just too understaffed. Spot gets it right, and I will trust them anytime with my best little friend. read more

I wish I could give this place a 10 Star rating. I bring my dog here once a week to burn off energy and every time he comes home he's exhausted! They're so personable. I love how they learn so much about your dog and can remember his name. They post pictures to the their Facebook page daily so you can always log on and see if you can find your dog. The price point is cheap. I pay $25 a week to leave him once. I love that he's getting interaction and that he's getting exercise. I always feel bad leaving him at home alone. I definitely recommend this spot for anyone looking for a place to entertain their dog during the work hours! read more

One thing led to another and I couldn't get Murphy that day because of the move. I left a voicemail with spot asking to see if he could stay overnight and, within 15min, they called back and said absolutely! Saved me a night of hassle and have Murphy more playtime. Our rescue dog absolutely loves Spot for daycare. The first few times as a puppy she was nervous about it, but after the third time she went, she now jumps over my lap to get out of the car and sprints towards the door. I also like how all the staff know her by name, and I can tell they treat her well because she does a butt wiggle when she sees them. She comes home happy and exhausted. We have also used them for boarding while we went away on vacation and she seemed to enjoy the overnights as well (and is reassuring for us that an employee always spends the night). My dog loves the staff here. They are very friendly and I've been really impressed with how they introduce new dogs and supervise the dog interactions. I couldn't recommend Spot for Dogs more highly! I'm a sucker for 5 star service and dogs (have 4 pups to be exact), and Spot has always delivered. Yesterday they exceeded all expectations. While I was on a trip out of state, my dog had a medical emergency while staying there. They were all over it and handled everything as I would have as the owner. They communicated constantly, dispatched and engaged the manager who went to the animal hospital from his home at 10pm to make sure my dog was okay. Thanks to their quick action and attentiveness, my pet is just fine and this dog mama is one happy Spot fan. read more

Shannon (the owner) has been walking my dogs for me for the past 6 weeks, and I must say, I adore her! My girls are my children, and I was super nervous about allowing a stranger to take care of them even if it was just for a half hour a day, but I felt totally at ease the second I met Shannon. I truly believe she took care of them as if they were her own, and she even worked with my crazy schedule. She came by at noon and then again at 10pm when I had to work a 36-hr shift (I'm in med school), and she came early the next morning because she was worried about them being by themselves too long. She really is a wonderful person. She actually left a successful corporate career to start Spot, and some of the other employees have similar stories. They are truly working here because of their passion for dogs, and you can tell when you go to Spot. The dogs are very happy and there's always people watching them and making sure things run smoothly. I have recommended them to all my friends, whether it be for daycare of daily walks. You can absolutely trust your pups at this place! Plus, if you go to Urban Body, the gym next door, you can leave your dog to play at Spot while you work out...they have hourly rates for that :). read more

I took my dog Truth to SPOT for dogs for 3 days while on a business trip. Her normal place was booked and since this place got a good rating on Kudzu I thought I'd give it a shot. My dog freakin loved this place! She was playing out in the "inside dog park" with the other dogs when I picked her up and I think she had been playing the entire time because she slept for two days after I got her home. Truth is a boxer/pointer who is a ball of endless energy so it is very rare to ever see her worn out. I will definitely take Truth here again. All the employees obviously love dogs and love their jobs. It is as close to guilt-free boarding as you can get. It's a little more expensive than some other places but you absolutely get what you pay for. read more

We love SPOT so much. Our dog George, a rescue we've had for almost a year and have been taking him to SPOT for the majority of that year, has severe anxiety and fear issues. He has meltdowns when we try to walk him through a perfectly quiet, serene Piedmont Park around 7am. However, he is a COMPLETELY different dog at SPOT. He starts getting so excited the second we turn down the driveway - all 90 lbs of him charges through the car door the second I open it (sometimes the driver's door before I can even unbuckle my seatbelt...) to get to SPOT ASAP. The staff are always surprised when I mention the fear we notice with him on our own - we believe it speaks volumes of the environment the staff creates, how George is able to feel so comfortable and at ease while he's there. It's worth every penny. Ben in particular is so great - he gives us hilarious updates about the silly things George has done throughout the day. All of the staff know him by name, and as I watch him being greeted by the staff when I drop him off, I know that they care for him as if he were their own. To address some issues I've read below, he has come home a little stinky from time to time. One time we mentioned it, and George was given a free bath the next day. I think there was another time where we didn't even mention anything, but they told us that he had gotten extra dirty that day and gave him a bath as a courtesy. We really appreciated it and were impressed by the gesture - no complaints here. Also, as a bonus, he comes home so tired and content. In and of itself, that is priceless :) read more

I won't take my dog anywhere else.The staff is great. My only complaint is that they are not open until 7:30 or 8 like other day cares in the area. That extra time helps a ton for post work traffic/errands. read more

I just wanted to give a shout out for Spot for Dogs. I've taken my dog to the place on Chesire Bridge and never get to actually see her playing in the yard so to speak and interracting with the other dogs. Spot has big windows which allow me to watch my dog play with other dogs, things I don't normally see her do at the dog park. It's fun to watch her for a few minutes before I leave her there. The staff is great too. My dog is terrified of storms and the other day they realized this and put her up in a nice safe little cubby hole, when it started thundering so that she would feel safe(she hides in the closet or tub at home). So that's my plug. It's a cute fun place to take your dog and my dog(Leda) loves it there! read more

Wow Ben, so your response is don't look through the fence, and you won't get water hosed...OK. We were walking off the Beltline with intentions of checking out the ENTIRE facility and looked through the fence 1st. We have two "kids" that have been boarded in 2 other places in the past 7 years, but once we tried Spot we found our "spot" to place our kids when we travel, or simply to give my young Ribbon a place to expend energy in play. The staff is very vigilant , well trained and very importantly,caring.This is the very best and safest place. I applaud the their charitable work on behalf of the Atlanta Humane Society. Trusting someone with a member of our family is tough. Our dog loves going to day care and I rest easy knowing he gets a chance to run and socialize all day rather than being in a kennel. Best option in the area. read more

Wonderful! My springer spaniel puppy has been coming here one to two times a week for a few months and he LOVES it! The owners are SOOOOO nice! My dog gets so excited when we pull into the parking lot. The best part is.... my pup is pooped for DAYS! They even bathed my dog for free a couple times when he got super dirty! I'll never use another doggie day care! read more
