We stopped in while visiting the Ely area because our 11 year old forgot "real" shoes at home and we had a 10-mile joke day planned in Great Basin. AGH!!!!! Every single staff member working greeted us and was so so kind. Our other three kids (11, 10, and 6) were inquisitive and wanted to know all the things, especially about the bikes! The staff were all very patient and welcomed their conversation. We'll definitely stop here on future trips to town to stock up on anything else we may forget/ run out of!! read more

Every time we are in Ely, NV we make a trip to sports world. They have everything you could possibly need!! On my last trip in we were in need of some power bait and fishing license. We were already in the system for our license but they needed up dating. The girls at the count were quick and efficient. Our information was updated, we paid and we were on our way!! Quick and painless. If you need anything for out doors they have you covered. They have hunting, shooting, archery, camping, fishing, biking....you name it I'm sure they have it. They also sell beer (this is important to know) and even seasonings. Also, if you happen to need a UPS drop off location they actually have a spot in the back of the store by the restrooms to drop your packages off. On the topic of bathrooms, their bathrooms are ALWAYS very clean!! You definitely need to check them out if you are in town. read more

NOTE: THIS IS THE ONLY BUSINESS IN ELY THAT SELLS BIKE ACCESSORIES. Bring your own tubes with you!! First, I called to see if they had a bike tube I needed along with a price. Told the guy the EXACT size I needed. He said yes, they had it and the prices ranged between $3 and some higher number. I knew there was something wrong because nobody sells tubes for three bucks except maybe a thrift store. Went in the next day. What a waste of time. Not only did they not have the size I gave him, it was the only size of the hundreds of sizes and brands they carry which wasn't on the shelf! And I was looking for a 26"x 1.95 (usually 1.85-2.1), the most or second most common size on older mtn bikes! I've never been to a bike shop or Walmart that didn't carry this size! To add to all that, the bike manager (if he really was) was clueless that he was out of that size and gave some senseless excuse as to why. I've been in mgmt; how would you be clueless on being out of something so commonly sold? And the City of Ely is pushing mtn biking tourism. Dear City of Ely - you need some real management at the only bike resource for hundreds of miles. (Oh, and the kid was almost right. Tube prices start at $3.50, which kind of tells you a lot.) read more

Not sure about the low stars as we had a great experience. The staff were friendly and fun. The quality of items is excellent. I picked up my annual fishing license and some other items. For an area that has brag-worthy open skies and adventure for everyone, this place is perfect for your sporting needs. I've been going here for a few months to ship my UPS packages. Patty who does the UPS shipping is a pleasure to work with and is always friendly and helpful. I went in today, package in my hand as I passed the front register where four employees were gathered, one behind the counter three in front. All of them saw me walk in with my package. I was the only customer in the store. As I walked to the back of the store to see Patty, she was not there and I realized that she was on vacation this week. I walked back to the front of the store to the register and asked to all four of the employees who could help me with a UPS shipment. I was directed to one of the younger males who seemed like I was interrupting his standing around and he had to deal with me. Very aggravating. What is more aggravating is that all four employees saw me walk in with a package. Do you think any one of them would have asked if I needed something shipped, knowing that Patty is on vacation??? Horrible customer service. And on top of that, during many previous visits the millennials that they have working behind the counter show no enthusiasm for their job nor do the give service with a smile. They mumble when they speak to customers, no eye contact with customers, and give off a general feeling of malaise. read more

I very stupidly left my wallet at the gas pumps at Loves in Ely Nev and after verifying that some good Samaritan had turned it in I had to figure out how to get it back as I had continued to drive north and home. I contacted Jimmy at Sports World in Ely who is also the UPS rep in town if he could help me. He was able to pack up my wallet after a very nice employee from Loves dropped it off. He packaged it up and was able to get it in the system and It is in shipment as I write this review. Many thanks to Jimmy the owner of Sports World and Joclene from Loves my faith in humanity is restored. Thanks to all and be nice to everyone. read more

Historically Sportsworld has had a well meaning kid working the bike shop portion of the shop. I've always been reluctant to take my bike their for this reason, figuring that this kid is probably trying to wing it just like I am. I was pleasantly surprised when I recently went into the store to window shop. I struck up a conversation with Chris, the new bike mechanic. It was clearly evident that this guy new his stuff. I decided to go home and have him service a bike a recently bought on Wish. He had it fixed the following day. He went way above and beyond to service my bike. I had recently bought it off the Wish app and it had some major problems. Chris replaced all of the cables because they were super unsafe. I am very happy with the service and wish I would have just bought a bike from him in the first place. read more

Imagine my surprise when my wife and I stroll in to Sportsworld in Ely, NV (Ely has only about 4300 people, though it seems larger when you drive through) and it quickly looks like a mini-Cabela's. They have stuff for every sport known to man - really. We were in the market for some fishing gear to use at Cave Lake State Park where we were camped. The personnel were well versed in the angling field and easily met our fishing needs. We browsed around the entire store, as long as we were there. Hunting, fishing, bicycling, hiking, climbing, boating, you name it, they have SOMETHING for you. It really IS a big store. I can see us stopping in here every time we head out to Cave Lake - which is going to be often once I retire in August of this year (2013). Yes, we WILL tell our friends! read more

Living in Ely, this is the ONLY retail stocking gun dealer and full-service sporting goods store. I shop at Sportsworld and it's here if you need it. - I paid $1.99, plus tax, for targets costing only fifty cents at my hometown store. - I needed a dealer-to-dealer firearm transfer but was quoted seventy-five dollars, plus shipping. Of course, shipping was expected but the handling fee was triple the expected amount. There is probably enough tourist money coming into the store so that they wouldn't need to fleece locals, but they do have (in stock) most anything you might want. (It is the only place in town where you can buy a gun, a kayak, and a twelve-pack of beer, at the same time). By the way, locals say that Sportsworld has the best beer prices in town. read more

A gem of a sporting goods store. I just wanted to do a little fishing with the kids at Cave Lake. The lady was super helpful. I don't fish so no help. She picked out princess fishing poles and multicolored stinky play doh added some fairy dust and wham! The fish were jumping out of the water. My girls did some catch & release. The store carries a lot of stuff however their service is horrible. We had all of our stuff went to check out and the two people at the registers didn't even acknowledge us they just kept doing whatever they were doing. After waiting for 3-5 minutes for them to acknowledge we were even standing there my husband asked if there was anyone to check us out and the lady said that would be us and kept on doing what she was doing. We waited a few more minutes and then left. Horrible service will never go back there again and wouldn't recommend to anyone unless you like paying to be treated rudely. read more

I come here once or twice a year to buy supplies to participate in the Rotary Club Ice Fishing Derby and hunting forays in the local area. I have not seen my previously reviewed anti-hunting cashier lately and my shopping experiences have all been great. This place is really nice and has just about anything you would want for the outdoors minded person. My only complaint is that the prices are just a wee bit on the high side but, ignore that I said that since the store is located in Ely, Nevada which by all rights is kind of in the middle of nowhere (no offense to the chamber of commerce!). Guns, ammo, fishing, hunting, reloading, camping....they have a very good selection. Every time we are camping in nearby Cave Lake for camping and fishing, a stop to Sportsworld is a must, even if you don't need anything. I'd like to buy a rifle or pistol there one day, not that I need a extra one, but that being a resident of Nevada it is one of the freedoms we enjoy in the "Silver state". I bought a couple of sleeping bags for over $100 each. When I called back with some issues they told me they couldn't return them because of the pandemic, that I might have the virus. One of the bags had a stuff sack inside that was folded flat and neatly, obviously from the factory and never used. The other was all wrinkled and the bag had obviously been used. So what about me getting infected??? They told me someone had just "looked" at it in the store. Sure, they looked at it, then stuffed it in the bag???? The woman I talked to was around 30-40, kind of small stature. As soon as she found out I was not from Ely she became hostile and hung up on me. Moral of the story? Don't buy anything expensive from this store. Go down the street there is another store which is a well-known chain, right there on the 93.. There, like most any other place, you will be treated with respect and they will value you as a customer. I will NEVER go back to Sportsworld and we travel through Ely often. read more

I got a call from some harpy manager blaming me for breaking laws and putting their company in jeopardy. Everything she was blaming me for was completely on their side of things. Sportsworld in Ely, N.V. What can I say about this store, besides it's ran by a bunch of brainless monkeys. They way over price their merchandise and have no problem ripping locals off. I will NEVER shop there again! I stopped by the store this afternoon to complain about a shotgun that I had purchased from them. I explained that the gun had been fired 4 times and each time the round would not eject. The boy working the counter said it was a manufacturers problem and they wouldn't do anything to help. I explained that it had been repaired by a Remington authorized gun smith twice already and each time I fired it after getting it back it would jam again. At this point this boy tells me that they sell broken crap all the time and they don't care. Yeah "they sell broken crap all the time" were his words. When I asked him to repeat what he just said he told me I could "leave" the store if I didn't like it. So I did "reluctantly"... On my way out I told him that I would picket and boycott them through social media! His reply "You don't want to go there" "That would be a real mistake" I turned back and asked him if he was threatening me and he just grinned and started smirking to the other boys standing around the counter. I recorded the entire encounter and will be posting it soon on every social media avenue.... PS... I own a very LARGE bill board at the edge of town.... Lets see how the GM responds tomorrow!!! Ps.
