Love love this most perfect little coffee shop & florist shop…read more first of all I was looking for a floral shop to send flowers to my best friend that moved to Ely a few months ago. I contacted them on facebook and they immediately responded. Then Christina took the order and made the most perfect arrangement of yellow roses to deliver. I was so impressed! And my bestie loved her flowers too. So, of course, on my 1st visit to Ely yesterday I had to stop in. It is SO adorable!! Got to meet the so-kind barista that made me a perfect flat white Just a lovely little shop and I plan to visit every day that I'm here! Thanks Flower Basket!!

I didn't have real food, but looking over the menu, I thought the prices were reasonable. It's the only place to eat within miles of the park! Ice cream is $2 for a healthy serving. They carry 10-15 flavors. I had huckleberry. It was fantastic. They also have great baked goods - huge brownie for $1.25. The decor is kitschy diner with tables and vinyl chairs and a lunch counter. The gift shop sells t-shirts, knick-nacks, postcards, and jewelry.

It is under new ownership and for some reason the owners have switched focus to beer and Australian wines. This seems a little misplaced. Given that a large chunk of the visitors to the park are big families - I saw 8 kids emerge from a single minivan, and anyone driving in from the California side probably has their own stash of wine that they will drink under the stars, there does not seem to be much of an audience. They still sell one flavor of ice cream - if the 'Mr Whippy' machine is working. But the magic has gone - kids like to choose.

You can also pick up the regular gifts as well to remember your visit. The center is a great jumping off point to head up the mountain for some hiking or just viewing this gorgeous area. If you are on the fence about making the drive, I'd recommend just doing it. It's a gorgeous drive and provides some beautiful views of the basin areas as well as Mt. Wheeler. The rangers that I ran into were also very helpful and friendly.

When I arrived, I stood at…read morethe front of the store for about five minutes before an employee finally came upstairs from the basement. Instead of helping customers & seemed completely uninterested in doing his job  Things only got worse from there. He couldn't find the keys to unlock the display cabinets and spent several minutes searching for them, which came across as disorganized and unprofessional. After I purchased an item, he damaged it while packaging it up. Rather than taking responsibility and exchanging the product, he falsely claimed the damage was my fault even though I had not touched the item one time and refused to make things right.  Customer service was rude, dismissive, and unhelpful from start to finish. Mistakes happen, but refusing to take accountability and treating customers poorly is unacceptable. I won't be returning and would not recommend this shop to anyone expecting professional service.
