I had the opportunity to come to the Thai chi class with my dad... such a fun experience. Chris , the Instructor was so nice and welcoming . Her class was fun, included everyone and she made it so enjoyable. Every move was talked through and demonstrated together . Her positive energy made me feel at ease. The movements were made fun and I will tell you- easy to remeber with her way of teaching. A win for me. The next morning we did them all , and I remembered every move in her order ... what a good teacher .. a very kind lady and I will come back every time I come to town - to visit.: check her class schedule - you will like it: The facility is huge , clean , and the staff is very very nice ... The pool area is huge - a lazy river type set up on one aode and a huge lap pool on the right .:: A big field outback for the kids and a green house .. a win all around . The gym- clean - lots of machines- free weights and a kettlebells - weighted balls - and guess what- they were all put back where they are supposed to be - wow. A win. A very organized place. There is a kids area to play downstairs - and a pool table with a game room - video interactive games for kids .. We use the after school program and it's very over priced. They have 3-4 staff and the kids usually doing their own thing for 2 hours after school cost 565 a month! The summer camp use to have a 3 day option that no longer exists. Just seems like they take advantage of people and make large profits taking advantage of parents in need. read more

I really felt compelled to come on and write a review about the Child watch program here at the Valley YMCA. I have two little ones (Age 1 1/2 & 2 1/2 ) who have grown up at home during the Pandemic. Needless to say they are a little shy, and anxious when it comes to new things and new people. Taking them to the YMCA child watch for the first time was extremely nerve wracking, but we were met with the most kind, patient, and warm greetings ever. Each and every one of the care providers talked warmly to the kids, redirecting gently when needed, and reassuring the nervous kids with kindness and compassion. I would 100% recommend taking advantage of the complimentary 2 hour child watch here. It gave me such ease seeing how well my kiddos were being cared for. 5 stars for sure! read more

This is a YMCA, so at the very beginning you should know what to expect. That being said, this is the nicest YMCA location in Spokane. They keep themselves clean, and have a variety of services to offer. They have a waterslide, a kitty pool with a banked entry, 6+ lap lanes, hot tub, sauna, showers, gym, weights, cardio machines and more. Regardless of how you work out or when, this is a great location. I am not super familiar with all of the machines, but they are easy to use and have pictures to show you what you need to do. I usually don't like the indoor gym type of feel, but this YMCA might have convinced me otherwise. I enjoy how it's not packed, and even if it is there's enough space and machines and things to do that you are not right next to someone. You do need a YMCA membership to get in, and a guest pass is seven dollars but you have to accompany a current member. read more

I love going to the Valley YMCA for the pool. I have an exercise list that I follow on my own at one end of the kiddie pool. The staff, from the front desk, to the lifeguards, to the maintenance guys all greet me with a smile and hello. The facility is clean and well maintained. The pool area has such big windows, even on a cloudy day there's lots of natural light which makes me feel happy. i don't know where the nay-sayers go, but it certainly cannot be this location. I could pay big bucks and join the Spokane Club, but the Y pool is much nicer. Not sure why people complain; maybe they were just having a bad day... read more

Dang near everything you'd ever want in a gym/community center. Indoor pool, locker rooms with showers and sauna, child care on-site, towels, new exercise machines, tons of group classes, nice building, solid staff and so on. The grounds are a huge bonus. They have walking trails, a pond and a waterfall. There's a massively excellent playground and splash pad right across the street. My only reservation comes down to crowding and capacity. Peak times get a little crazy, which affects more than just wait times for machines or more bodies to get around. Parking fills up, the pool gets rowdy, towels run out, dirty towels pile up, locker room floors get gross, trash cans run dangerously full and so on. This is a relatively small percentage of the time, especially in summer, but it's something to consider. read more

Overall this place is pretty decent. They have a LOT of space fir basketball, pool, and outdoors. One big plus is that they have a Nustep fir disabled or elderly and it's a really good quality Nustep a well. But to be honest... for me, Meh I was sorta disappointed. I had a few people tell me that I needed to go check this place out because it was by far the nicest one in Spokane. Although it is very nice, their selection of weight training I was somewhat limited. Yeah they've got a ton of matrix stuff but very limited on more free weight stuff. The overall mood here was also sorta crowded and dark/dreary. So if you like some good weight training equipment, I'd recommend either central or south YMCA. This one is definitely enter geared fir family fun with a HUGE pool area, full size basketball court and large lounge areas downstairs with rock wall and fireplace. If you're looking for a large variety of weight equipment and older style machines like hammer strength... you'll be disappointed. read more

I'm going to start with the pros: The schedule for group work outs are convenient. I've met one teacher who was highly incompetent, and surprisingly she's still there. She was late to her own class and she forgot her routine. I never returned.. however! All TRX and cycling teachers are very good and offer modifications as needed for injuries. The variety of machines are awesome. They have several machines available pretty much at any given time. They also recently bought new spinning machines. The wait staff is extremely nice. They all remember your name and are always helpful. I've never been disappointed here. Con: Here's the big one. Good gawd, is it nasty. The women's bathroom is filled with mud from people who don't wipe the bottom of their shoes. I see used tampons or sanitary napkins in the showers. Some individuals do not take the time to wipe down their machine after they work out. The pool: aw man. Just let's not go there... you will see things floating there. :shudders: I think I saw a piece of celery in the water. It couldn't be celery so it was...... good god. People are just gross. I wipe my machine before and after. I stay away from the pool. I shower at home. The gym overall is nice and situated in a good location. There is a lot of parking space... I sure wish, however, people were a tad bit cleaner. read more

One quick note: I have had 5 treadmills break on me in the last 2 weeks. They keep saying, "Yeah, we're having issues and they should be fixed soon." But when you are running at a fast pace and a treadmill just decides to stop, it is a little hard on the ankles. read more

My family and I love the valley Y and childcare staff is friendly and I trust them 100%

I read some of reviews and was surprised, because the staff in my opinion is extremely friendly. I go in the mornings regularly and when I walk in the staff is always greeting everyone with a friendly hello and if you come in regularly enough, they make a big effort to learn your name. I was sitting in the lobby the other day waiting for my husband and the girl that checks people in that was working knew almost everyones name and was continuously smiling and genuine. I think people have a bad experience with one employee and that alters the perception of all of them which is kind of unfair. The equipment is nice-- but I do agree the whole facility needs attention or a rebuild. The north and downtown locations are nicer but I keep coming back because of the lovely staff. read more

What a wonderful place, something for everyone! I am there for the pool exercises. The instructors are very knowledgeable, caring and fun. The water is heated so it isn't a shock to get in to. There are many classes and pool lanes available throughout the day. People that attend and those working there are very nice. I have not found parking to be a problem even with many people attending. The showers and lockers are plentiful. I am new to the area and so very glad I found this place! read more

The unhappy, unsmiling, agitated employees that are supposed to be "children friendly" is what annoys me. Lifeguards are miserable looking, 99% of the staff have the "I hate my job" look on their faces. Not a place you want to take your children to play, exercise, or lessons. And also the overcrowding in the pool--maybe it's time to rethink expansion? Regardless, after these swim lessons to which the instructor isn't teaching anything rather she sits there with an unhappy face, we won't ever be members of the Y. The prerequisite to attend would be to miserable to enter. That's what the staff exudes--miserable. read more

Am really more than a fan ... I try to go every day ... being retired makes that possible. Usually the outside of the facility looks very nice ...parking is more than adequate ... and they have a bike station ...being close to the Centennial Trail trail head is a plus. Reading other people negative surprised the socks off me ...Maybe because I go so often, the staff knows me, and they are always very friendly ... about the only time they fail to acknowledge my arrival ... and departure ... is if they are busy with another "guest" ... having the Smoothie Bar is also a plus! I am currently using the valley youth group to mow my law, and have "hired" them to help with other work. And I usually buy my spring flowers from the youth groups greenhouse .... I've met the youth leaders and believe they have an excellent youth program. I like the Valley exercise equipment more than the downtown center's ... in fact, I find the Valley center a bit more friendly. The shower room and locker rooms are usually clean, but yeah, there are those who don't make an effort to help with the "cleanliness factor" by wiping of muddy boots and not putting towels in the towel bags ...It is my opinion that the Y would have to double their maintenance / janitorial crews to keep up with the slobs. The few times I've used the pool it was nice. I believe the negative reviews are based on "one time bad experiences" rather than on-going issues. Been a member for about 11 - 12 years. Wouldn't go anywhere else. ... Oh, and when I visit the Seattle areas, my membership is good there too. H.L. read more

I LOVE my Spokane Valley YMCA! Plenty of activities for the kids, and The Active Older Adults water classes are a life saver for me and the staff have been great by adding one more day of Volleyball for us to have fun while getting a workout in the pool...no score, no rules except to laugh and have fun! I like this Y for its pool. It is the most beautiful of the YMCA Pools in Spokane with wooden beams overhead and giant west facing bowed windows that let lots of natural light in. Because of its location off of the freeway and I live downtown, the commute is actually quicker than the north side Y. So I frequently go here. The weights are more varied here than at either of the other two locations. They only have one private shower and as an adult man I feel that there is something... weird about showing with children. But you are forced into the situation from time to time, and the place is set up kind of funny where when you walk in the staff you encounter first are not the ones who scan your card, and I've made the mistake of approaching the wrong staff member and been somewhat impolitely chided about it. Then when you walk into the pool you walk really close to the in ground hot tub and for a brief moment you become a spectacle for everyone who is relaxing in it. These complaints are minor and nothing can be done about them so they are almost not worth mentioning. But they are the reason why I give them one star less than the North side. read more

Our family of 6 (4 kids ages 3 to 10) has been members of the Y for about 7 years now. We love the child care and staff here. I honestly feel anyone who has a bad experience with the child care or staff here could have had a bad experience anywhere...people are human and if you are looking for grumpy people you are probably going to find them. I think the staff here are friendly and kind (as I said, I've been coming 7 years, not one or two days). The classes and instructors are really fantastic and I have built a relationship with several of them. They honestly care about the people who come to their classes. They are my friends and I love having a support system to motivate me to come. Classes vary in intensity and you can find a workout to fit your level. If you are willing to pay more, there are personal fitness training options. The pool is really nice, with a separate pool for kids and water aerobics (it is warmer than the lap pool), as well as a "hot tub" (not super hot). There is a sauna in the locker room. We have done swimming lessons here and those have been great. Throughout the year the Y provides fun events for families to attend (like an Easter egg hunt in the pool, Child Watch Halloween costume parade, or Santa breakfast...some events are free, some cost extra). There is a fun room with a pool table, air hockey, a chalkboard, games, and two TVs for older kids or families to hang out in. There is a smoothie bar, though we can't afford to buy those very often. The Y is also a great place if you are a senior, as there is a great senior community with lots of classes and chances to build a support system. That being said, if I didn't have kids I would likely not choose the Y as my gym simply because you can find better pricing elsewhere, but I don't know how the classes at other gyms compare. The reasons I give this Y 4 stars instead of 5 are: First, younger children no longer have access to the pool's water slide. The slide has been part of the pool for at least 15 years, and suddently the manufacters decided they needed to update their policies, which now state that you must be 48" tall (about age 7 for more kids) to go down the slide (the Y must enforce this, it's not their fault). Very dissappointing for families who see the pool as a major purpose of their membership. Second, the showers in the locker rooms are very lacking. Several years ago the locker rooms were completely remodeled, giving hope for some major improvement. While they did get new lockers and a fresh (though hideous) paint job, the shower heads are awful and constantly have issues. Frequently one will be "out of order" or have a water pressure issue. Every stall is different. They added stalls with doors to ALL the womens' showers, some of them after-the-fact so they feel too cramped, though the privacy is a huge plus. Third, the climbing wall, which is one of the unique things about this Y, is desperately in need of new climbing holds. They haven't been replaced maybe even since it was constructed, and they have lost their grip. There are quite a few things in this Y that seem a little in need of replacement, but this isn't a country club. Bottom line, if a family-friendly fitness community is what you're looking for, the Y is great. We will continue to go here for years to come. read more

Very unfriendly staff. Was there with family walking the park, and going to take a tour, but was met outside by 3 different staff members that told us this was private property and had to leave. They even informed a lady with children that she had to leave even thou she stated that she had a membership. The staff needs to work on their customer relations, especially since this is a non profit organization that receives taxpayers money to operate. Very disappointed, and will probably never go back. You would think that being situated next to a park with walking trails, that they would embrace the public and be a little more inviting. read more

Our family loves this YMCA and it's employees. We feel welcomed and appreciated here and will never used another gym as long as we live in the area. The childcare staff is amazing. This gym is the perfect place to workout or enjoy some time in the sauna room. It is family and financial friendly to those who cannot afford expensive and swindling gym memberships. There is a ton of equipment and a huge pool room for kids and adults. Not to mention two basketball courts, a climbing rock wall, and center for teens, and a lounge room. The locker rooms are always cleaned and scrub thoroughly and the staff are always there to help. The one thing that did displease me was not the building or the service, but really the families. If you are looking to workout and enjoy some time in the locker room I would steer clear because of all the families with screaming toddlers and out of control children running everywhere. But hey, tit for tat. My recommendation would be coming some early in the morning or evening when it is not as bad. Otherwise this is great place to workout and have fun! read more
