Spokane Civic Theatre - Evil Dead Production: Fall 2015

    Spokane Civic Theatre

Since the departure of professional theatre in Spokane, there is little doubt that "The Civic"…read morerules the roost. Most community theatre productions I have seen are geared towards family and friends of the performers with a mix of talented thespians and enthusiastic, if weaker, performers doing what they love. The Civic does not fall into this mold. Without a doubt, this is community theatre of the highest quality. Boasting two stages: a large traditional "main stage" and a "black box" theatre downstairs, Spokane Civic Theatre produces a mix of traditional productions such as "Hello Dolly" or "White Christmas" to offbeat shows such as "Rocky Horror Show" or "Putnam County." Bottom line: Don't miss the chance to see top notch theatre in Downtown Spokane!

The Spokane Civic Theatre provides Spokane with the very best in talent in the inland Northwest…read more Their seasons boast a good blend of musicals, straight plays, small and independent plays and mainstream shows as well. The theatre itself is beautiful and the modest size creates a very intimate atmosphere with each production. Ticket prices are very reasonable. You seriously can't beat the view from the audience the ticket cost and the superb skills of the actors. I just saw the current production of Les Miserables and let me just say....it is PHENOMENAL. I've seen the show on Broadway and in San Fransisco and I think this production rivals those. Kudos to the board for bringing on a great director and music director for this musical and to the men and women of Spokane (and surrounding areas) for sharing their gifted voices with us. You have another adoring fan.

It's a great little venue with excellent sound. They have popcorn and other snacks and they also have a bar upstairs. It isn't always open, but sometimes it is and it's pretty good. The margaritas are premade, but they still do the job! The staff is nice, the shows are great, and the venue needs our business to stay around. The next time you're looking for something to do in December, look into the Bing Crosby Holiday film festival at The Bing! Bring the family and introduce the kids to a great classic holiday film!

I had a terrible experience with the Bing Crosby Theatre's ticketing system and customer service. I…read morebought tickets for the Josh Johnson show but got too sick to go. I spent over an hour trying to transfer them to my sister through their ticketing app. Nothing worked. When I called the main number for the theater for help, the manager picked up. She was immediately condescending and rude. She said, "Dear, I'm in the MIDDLE of OPENING and I'M the MANAGER and you can just go to the box office people and WORK IT OUT WITH THEM," and hung up on me. I never asked for a manager. I just needed help. They clearly don't have a real support system. No one was available to handle a simple ticketing issue. After everything I spent to attend, including hotel and airfare, being dismissed like that was unacceptable.

Wonderful little theater nestled snugly in the cockles of downtown Spokane…read more Productions are carefully selected and feature an abundance of local talent from playwrights to production crew, actors to lighting techs, set design to customer service. Community engagement and social mission are baked into the crust. Stage Left puts their (your) money where their (your?) mouth is in terms of diverting portions of ticket sales to local causes, and they have a land-lease arrangement with one of the local tribes. They are a progressive theatre, no doubt, and wear their politics proudly on their sleeve. Still, with the production I saw I was delighted to see politics riding shotgun to art and stagecraft; highly politicized subject matter was treated with more nuance and thoughtfulness than I was expecting frankly. It's a small theater so all the seats are good seats. Sound, lighting, and set design were very nice! The acting was almost universally awesome and actors seemed both very well-rehearsed and highly skilled in delivery. Prices are reasonable at $25 for weekend shows; it's a great night out and a solid value. Cheaper tickets are available during the week as well. You can buy beer and wine in the lobby to bring into the theater, alongside some other snacky sundries. The theater is downtown in one of the more distressed areas, so feel free to walk in pairs and not leave a bunch of tempting stuff visible in your vehicle.

Great Experience @ Spokane Comedy Club in Spokane, WA. !!…read more We were excited to find out Eddie Griffin was in town and tickets were still available a couple hours beforehand! Not only that, general admission was only $37 a ticket. We upgraded to the paper plane package to add an appetizer, dessert, and non-alcoholic drink, plus gratuity. That way we only had to open a tab for cocktails. Cinderella mocktail was great! Cheesecake was delicious and light. Pretzel bites were good as well, but took a while to receive, after we reminded our server we still hadn't gotten them. The Hulk opened for Eddie, he was funny and had a relatable storyline while engaging with the audience. Eddie Griffin had the whole crowd Laughing Out Loud as soon as he stepped up. I'm glad we got his early show @ 7pm, he was all in and kept at it. Great night out, I would definitely recommend this venue, just get in line early so you get a good spot, we were escorted to a table pretty close to the front middle section, which was ideal. Also, the tables sit a party of four, so you might be sharing a table with others. Our server was nice and came around multiple times, but she doesn't bring out the food and drinks, so pay attention to what you ordered. We had a couple things dropped off we didn't order and had to tell her to take away... Security was visible and polite. Will Call was seamless. Servers were all quite busy. No attitude or drama. Overall Fun Time!

Went for a larger show (with comp tickets) and the service levels were definitely different…read more Firstly, it was disappointing that purchases of $1 bills was limited at a Drag show, which is designed to be supported by tipping. Buying bingo cards seemed cumbersome and complicated. My Joan Rivers hot dog was skimpy on the PB and my first Zombie drink looked/tasted significantly different than the second that was served. The servers themselves are wonderful, but organization and quality seems to be lacking. Being squeezed into tiny tables with strangers is adventurous yet awkward; there is literally not enough room to comfortably accommodate four drinks and four meals at the two tops they are offering.
