We had an extremely negative experience at Zimmet Law. We worked with the lawyer Debra Hammerman,…read moreas well as Monique Gravely and Jacqueline Constante. We used Zimmet Law to purchase our home in Brooklyn, NY. Besides being generally hard to get in contact with the lawyers, 12 hours before our closing, the lawyers sent us a final Closing Disclosure with over $100,000 in mistakes that they did not catch. There was a mistake in our taxes that they did not catch. The title company they hired also made significant mistakes, leading to them giving us documents with huge mistakes in them 12 hours before the closing. Our lawyer, Debra Hammerman, did not come to our closing and was not present for most it, so we had to sort out all of these issues on our own. There were even more mistakes she didn't catch, and it led to an extremely stressful closing that lasted well over 8 hours. Her employee Monique was rude to me for asking more clarifying questions during the closing, saying we were "going in circles". I don't understand how someone who has made a $100,000 mistake could possibly feel justified in thinking that victim of that mistake might want more validation on other numbers they have created. Furthermore, the paralegal Jackie was looped into conversations for closing details about a week before the closing. I spent 3 days straight emailing her and calling her to try to get answers to questions about the closing, like how the money would be transferred, and she never responded. I confirmed with the front desk that she was not sick or on vacation, and our lawyer Debra Hammerman was also cc'ed on those emails and neither of them ever responded to our emails or calls. I have no idea why they waited until 9:30 PM to give us the final closing documents, when our closing was at 10 am the next day. It was a nightmare. Finally, Debra Hammerman herself provided a POA since one of our purchasers would be out of town at the closing. Despite us filling out the POA as per her instructions, it turned out she hadn't requested addresses of notarized signature witnesses which led to us desperately trying to contact our witnesses during this extremely chaotic closing to get their addresses. Why didn't she request addresses in the POA itself? Pure incompetence is my bet. Finally, the lawyer, paralegal, and all of the staff from Zimmet Law completely forgot to bring up holding money in escrow from incomplete punch list items. It fell by the wayside as we attempted to hammer out all the other mistakes the law firm has made, and it meant that no money was held in escrow as requested while we awaited final punchlist items to be addressed. This was a totally terrible experience for us and I would never recommend this law firm to anyone.

I set up an appointment to go over a leasing issue I've encountered - my landlord is canceling the…read morelease agreement despite I've signed the lease and paid the brokerage fee. Prior to this, the landlord or the agent suggested I should hide my underaged child from the occupant list so they don't need to put up ugly window shields on their nice-looking apartment. I refused to do so and they ceased the lease. Mr. Brian Zimmet: 1) 10 min late for the call without explanation, 2) said neither the landlord nor the agent had done anything wrong, 3) I brought to him I think the agent has broken the code of ethics in several ways and the landlord's decision violates NYC tenant law by refusing to rent to a family with a child; he said he's not familiar with the code ethics (despite him being the real estate lawyer) and asked me to call the police if feel discriminated (what a nice person), 4) refused to help me with filing a complaint on the landlord or the agent, asking me to find a long island lawyer (the property is in Queens but nevertheless he should have a license covering NY state). Throughout the whole process, he is impatient and rude and ended the call in 10 min despite his assistant booked for 30 min. And the fact that he called the action of the agent/landlord "nothing wrong, nothing illegal" seems weird to me. Will not do business with them anymore.

I recommend Robert G. Smith without reservation as a skilled and dedicated trial and divorce…read morelawyer. I am a successful dentist and observant in my religion. When my wife began accusing me of infidelity at work, she involved our children, then ages 3 and 4. Two years later, my wife escalated her attack by filing a false police report that I threatened to kill her and our children. I spent a night in jail that I will never forget. The next day I retained Robert G. Smith. Mr. Smith secured the dismissal of the criminal case. Then he went about to obtain custody of our children. He litigated with diligence and poise. While cross examining the Court's psychiatrist, Mr. Smith got him to admit that my wife suffered from delusional disorder, and to change his recommendation from shared custody to sole custody right there on the witness stand. Mr. Smith spent three days cross examining my wife, and when he was done with her, nobody in the court room thought that my wife was sane. Then Mr, Smith proceeded to give an oral summation that made me so proud that I insisted that he have it transcribed and put it on his website. Mr. Smith stayed with me through thick and thin. Although Mr. Smith disagrees, my wife claims that the reason she lost custody of our children was because she did not have a dedicated and capable lawyer like Mr. Smith. To anyone facing the prospect of child litigation custody I can offer a few words of advice: The stakes are simply too high for you to be able to avoid the temptation of an emotional mistake. At the outset of my case, Mr. Smith outlined our goals: maximum time with my children and minimum financial exposure. I am grateful that I have had the benefit of representation by a lawyer that I respect and trust. It enabled me to follow what appeared to be counter initiative advice, such as his recommendation that I voluntarily pay a $ 5,000.00 retainer to my wife's third divorce lawyer, and to avoid other emotional temptations that could have prejudiced my case. I believe in my heart that my children will have a better life because I fought for and won custody. For that I am forever grateful to Robert Smith.

Worked on my behalf 1,000 miles away…read more.. When my ex-wife moved to New York to begin divorce/custody proceedings I believed we were reconciling. When served with the papers I didn't know where to begin (I live in Kentucky and had no contacts in New York). Mr. Smith was the individual I depended on to represent me. He treated myself and my family with kindness and integrity throughout the entire process. I believe that he did everything he could to limit the amount of travel and expense necessary for a lengthy custody battle in another state. By the end of the ordeal he seemed more like a relative than a lawyer, but make no mistake, he knows his way around a courtroom. Mr. Smith was spectacular in the examination portion of the family court proceedings. He is very good at making sure your narrative is told as well as dispelling lies and falsehoods from the other side through cross-examination and expert witnesses. Mr. Smith explained the process to myself and my family in a way that limited the amount of surprises we encountered along the way. He has a vast amount of experience and knowledge about the system and how it works. He uses these tools to navigate you through an inefficient court system all the while being honest with you about your chances for success. I would not hesitate to recommend him to others and would use him again tomorrow if I needed to.
