We almost passed on Splash because we assumed it was more of an upscale wine bar and not really our style. We're so glad we gave it a chance because it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. The patio right by the lake is really cute, and we grabbed a couple of drinks and just relaxed before dinner. Even though it was one of the busiest weekends of the summer, we never felt rushed. We actually enjoyed taking our time, enjoying the view, and soaking up the atmosphere. I ordered the filet medallions, and they were cooked perfectly, right around medium to medium-rare, exactly how I like them. They were incredibly tender and full of flavor. My wife had the sea scallops, and after stealing one from her plate, I can honestly say they were amazing too. One thing I noticed from reading reviews beforehand was people mentioning the portion sizes. Personally, I thought they were just right. You leave satisfied without feeling stuffed. I'd much rather have a plate of high-quality food than a giant serving padded with fries and other fillers. Honestly, this is how more restaurants should serve food and how Americans should eat. We've eaten at several of the other restaurants in Bemus Point during our stay, and Splash was easily our favorite. The food quality was on another level. It felt like a chef-prepared meal instead of the typical bar food you find around the lake. After dinner, we wandered inside and ended up staying for the live piano entertainment. It wasn't what we expected; it was upbeat, interactive, and a lot of fun. The whole place had a great energy. If you're in the Bemus Point area, do yourself a favor and give Splash a try. It's a refreshing change from the usual fried bar food, the setting is beautiful, and the entire experience was one of the highlights of our trip. read more

On a Sunday, the website said piano music of Elton John and Billy Joel. There was a banner outside the restaurant saying, "live music tonight." We arrived BECAUSE of the expectation of listening to music while we ate - arrived at our 6:30 pm reservation. After we were seated, we were told, "the piano guy didn't show up." We were upset about the nonchalant way we were blown-off. Now, we had decent drinks + food BUT I don't think we'll return this season. No response to my Facebook message despite banner saying we'd hear back within 48 hours. Poorly handled all around. Should also mention we were not the only unhappy people as a couple of parties left after finding out there was no music. Very disappointed and can not recommend (anymore). UPDATE after owner comment: she says, communication was "not up to my liking" - ouch! My "liking" would have been something along the lines of "we're truly sorry but the scheduled pianist has taken ill." I would also have removed the flag outside saying "music tonight." YOU put the message on Facebook that you would respond within 48 hours. After my issue, you changed your message to "call us, don't expect a replay as we're busy". Really? Yes, better communication at the restaurant would have definitely made our dining experience more enjoyable. After setting expectations (Facebook reply time) - meeting them would have made me pause in writing this review :) Better training for the staff IS in order - it would not take a lot of effort to get everyone on the same message. In the end, this is not a huge deal. We're (merely) more disappointed after your response. We wish you well as past experiences have been fine. We'll move on for this season - and will probably try again next. read more

I highly recommend this restaurant. A gentleman was playing the piano with true passion and happiness. He was playing jazz and singing his little heart out really put a smile on my face. All the folks working were working very hard. There was no one standing around goofing off. Everyone seemed to be working toward showing all the guests, a wonderful time. The view of the lake with the door open and the decor and the color and the people I really felt like I was in New York City or something not granted I'm not really a flying fat cat, but I did feel like that. To the food I don't know what to say. The food in the cocktails were something that I did not expect. I was overwhelmed with the intense creativity and flavor of the drinks the appetizers, the shrimp, the dessert. It was truly one of the nicest experiences that I have had lately. UPDATE: The owner did post a whole lot of replies. Very defensive. She claims our server brought our drinks tot he table 30 minutes after arrival. Nope. I ordered them at the bar. When the water was ready, I went to the bar to get it. Still no server. When the drinks were ready I went to the bar and the bartender delivered them to a server who brought them to us as I walked back with her. The owner who replied to my review says they took full accountability right away. Nope. The first thing the server said to us was "This is not my fault. Nobody told me I had to have this table." We asked for a manager. The restaurant did not volunteer a manager - we asked. When he did arrive. His first comments were defensive and simply said somebody made a mistake. He started to walk away. We asked if the staff is on group tips or alone and he said individual - which explains why when other servers saw us unserved while they were taking orders at adjoinign tables - they had no incentive to see that we were taken care of. We tried to talk to him further and after a few more excuses of "that shouldn't happen," he kept trying to just drop it. Then he offered us a round of drinks and that told us he still didn't get it - he just wanted to stop talking about it. We're not looking for free stuff. Just some service. And no, the server did not inform us of meat temperature. She clearly did not want our table and did the bare minimum. Took the order, helped deliver food. Brought the check. read more

This is a great little higher-end restaurant that serves fresh food and a bit more sophisticated dishes than many restaurants in the area. Both the indoor and outdoor areas are attractive. Three of us ate here recently outside on a nice day. We shared several small plates and had some wine or cocktails. It's really charming and worth a trip. read more

We found this little gem on afternoon while traveling to Chautauqua for a lecture. The ambience is fantastic -- dark, moody, and reminiscent of a supper club or speakeasy from a bygone era. We were the only people in the restaurant on a weekday in the late afternoon, which was odd, but in this case it led to incredibly personalized and attentive service. The food was delicious -- nothing that blew us away with originality, but well executed tapas that are easy to recommend. The wine choices were pretty solid as well. Given the chance, I'd like to return for dinner when there's a live music with the piano that seems to be the focal point of the room! There doesn't appear to be a multitude of higher-end restaurants in the local area, but this definitely falls into that "nicer" category. read more

We went at around 5-ish on Saturday night and had no problem getting a table. Staff were friendly and efficient in getting orders and food out. This restaurant is Sinatra themed! The walls are covered in pictures of Sinatra and memorabilia. The bathrooms are labeled "Guys" and "Dolls," ha! Food was really good! I'm writing to recommend a fantastic restaurant in Bemus Point: Splash. My wife and I recently purchased a home across the lake in Bemus Point, and we are both very active in Chautauqua. One thing I've noted is that great restaurants are not particularly numerous, but they do exist. Being a performer and presenter with the Capitol Steps for 24 years, I traveled all around the country and appeared in almost every major (and minor) city more than once. And so, having eaten out on a regular basis literally all over the map, I am confident you can't go wrong if you give Splash a whirl. The food is always delicious, the wine is amazingly high-level, and the venue design, staff, and owners are top-notch. My wife and I particularly love the scallops, the shrimp shooters, and the meatball/sausage combination. And once you try the flourless chocolate cake, it's hard to go back to any other. Adding to that, I particularly love the retro design of the place with lots of big-band music, and even old classic shows on the television. Very cool. I highly recommend and hope that everyone gets a chance to patronize this wonderful, local establishment. read more

The service was pretty good, but the lack of communication for how long the food would take (an hour plus) was not great. Our waitress was friendly, but the manager on duty was not helpful and had terrible customer service. Due to the wait, the manager only offered a dessert instead of comping the 2 rounds of drinks we ordered due to how long it took for the food to get to the table. Won't be going there anytime soon. There are other restaurants in Bemus that offer better service and better food. If you aren't prepared for a major holiday then don't open. read more

Service was so slow, I think the kitchen staff was on vacation. Took over an hour for appetizers and 1.5 hours and still no dinner. We were told by the owner it was a Saturday nite, we should have expected that. No sir, that is unacceptable. Advice- don't be rude and pompous with your customers. It's not a good look for you. Felt sorry for the sweet server who had to keep telling us our food wasn't ready. If you go- be prepared for poor service. Our first time at Splash as we were celebrating an Anniversary. We reserved a table outside as there wasn't a chance of rain but due to sudden rain they happily offered us a seat inside when we arrived. The server was friendly and checked on us multiple times and the owner Shawn stopped by the table to welcome us in and bring the bottle of wine we ordered. It was a quiet night in Bemus due to the weather and weekday night so the restaurant wasn't full but I would suspect this is just due to weather. Initially we intended to go someplace for dinner and reserved a Table at Splash but then realized that is tapas, which is fine, but it didn't actually seem very clear upfront that this was the full menu, so just as a heads up for anyone who hasn't been before. Food was great though and it's a place I'd return to. They informed us of live music Friday and Saturday evenings as well. read more

Well, things escalated after this photo was taken. I was visiting the area this past weekend and decided to stop at Splash for a wine tasting and dessert. While enjoying myself on the patio, I was stung by a bee. I brought this to the attention of the staff and said I felt funny. Little did I know, I was going into anaphylactic shock. The employees jumped into action and called 911. One server recognized my symptoms and even called her boyfriend to bring an epipen, incase he could arrive before the paramedics. I truly believe the actions of the staff, paramedics, nurses and ER Physician saved my life. As a solo traveler, I still felt comfortable and knew I was in good hands. Thank you!!! I will definitely be returning and hope to finish my wine flight this time, only with a little less excitement. read more

I ordered a dessert and she brought the wrong one and made it sound like it was my fault and not hers. didn't apologIze, just wanted me to keep the one she brought. she wasn't friendly. you have to give them your credit card number if you reserve and they charge it if you or anyone in your party doesn't show. $20.00 per person. they make it sound like they are at full capacity, but today when we reserved, they weren't even half full. made me feel uncomfortable. Let's start out by saying that if you're looking for a meal that's actually the size of a meal, don't come here. Every meal that we ordered was the size of a side dish. Even the appetizer was bigger than the meals. The side for the brisket Mac and cheese was small enough for a small child to eat in one bite. A McDonalds happy meal is bigger than the meal. There were not many options on the menu and about 3/4 of it were drinks. The food was good but WAY too overpriced for the size. The side Caesar salad was a ridiculous 12 dollars. The charcuterie board appetizers on the menu was 46 dollars for only serving 2 people. A kids pizza which was about the size of a regular slice, was 21 dollars. The service was fine but a little slow. We were placed at a table that was in direct line of the sun even though we were the only family in the restaurant. Overall this place was ok but definitely not worth $130 for a family of 4. ($250 for our party of 8) read more

What a wonderful evening our party of 4 had at this new addition to Bemus Point! The ambiance is one of classic style meets relaxing comfort with a sophisticated vacation-on -the -lake feel, enhanced by their indoor-outdoor seating and live jazz entertainment ("Great American Songbook" style). Not only is this new wine bar/cocktail lounge/tapas bar pleasing in looks, decor and atmosphere, but their wine selection is excellent and diverse, their cocktails pleasing to the eye and palette, and their tapas plates are outstanding! Presentation of food was very impressive, but the taste was even more spectacular! Every plate we ordered was exceptional, melding flavors beautifully. Portions were perfect allowing us to try a few different plates, without feeling overstuffed. Service was fantastic! Very friendly and attentive and we would like to thank Molly our hostess, Emily our server and Reagan our bartender, for a unique and unforgettable evening.
