A little on the pricey side but you get good portions, great service and personable staff. The food is fresh and tasty and they will accommodate your requests and preferences. It's a great local seafood restaurant famous for Cajun catfish. I enjoyed dining here multiple times. I could meet lot of known local people here in the restaurant while waiting for my table. Price is right, food is delicious . Miss this place. Recommend highly. read more

Cool restaurant in an old building. I went for the fried catfish filet - the portion was large but for me they were fried a little long. I know some people like them crisp. I really enjoyed the sweet tasting hush puppies that was brought went I sat. Unfortunately the service was slow - can't that just spoil a meal sometimes? read more

July 2012 Starving, weary travelers, we stopped in for a bite before continuing our journey south. We arrived about a quarter after 4 in the afternoon and just as the crowd started arriving. We were greeted by a lovely hostess who was steeped in southern charm in a room with deer heads hanging off the walls... 9 to be exact & a boat's head! But, given the location of this restaurant and that it's been around since '77, I'll forgive the old tired hunting decor. Soon after we were seated, our cherub faced server arrived to take our drink order & read the special. It sounded delish but we wanted seafood. So, we ordered shrimp plates with sides of coleslaw & grits. Our server promptly brought us a plate of hush puppies & homemade pickled vegetables. YUM! I've included a picture for you to see for yourself. Soon after our food arrived. It was a bit salty, but good. Cooked perfectly and a huge portion! The grits were creamy with just the right amoint of salt & didn't need the very large cup of butter on the side. We ate and as we were leaving for the last leg of our journey, stomachs full and heart happy, the cashier explained to us that "people came from an hour away to eat here & the only reason ours food came out so quick is because we beat the weekend crowd"! ;) We'd stop in again except we'll probably never come this way and if we do, we may forget here this place is ... In the middle of nowhere georgia!!! Good food, decent price & some good Ol fashioned southern charm! read more

Just passing through. Nice town, friendly. Hostess smiled and greeted us on a busy Saturday night. The place gets busy with large groups so plan to stay a while if you don't get there early. I had the catfish and my wife had the popcorn shrimp. Catfish was delicious and the popcorn shrimp was breaded with a really tasty breading - not your average frozen shrimp. Tried for first time. The mini hush puppies were better than the bigger ones ever are. Alligator tasted pretty good and wasn't rubbery. Shrimp and fish was tasty and well cooked. In there a few weeks ago on Friday night. Packed house!! Looking forward to some fried catfish on the bone. Got'em and we're a bit small, but good. Hush puppies were great. Sides were ok, nothing to write home about. Service was good. Overall...ok. Would I return...maybe. OK...I came back! 12/2/17. Christmas Parade night. Arrived and seated fast. Ahead of the crowd. Had a great waitress who was very attentive. Ordered AYCE catfish with sweet potato and salad bar. So this time the catfish were bigger and actually tasty. The sweet potato was very good and they put the brown sugar/cinnamon on the side which I appreciated. The salad bar had a fair amount of items all looked fresh and the ranch dressing was very tasty. Also tried the blackened catfish. Not as good. Seemed to be done in a broiler not a skillet. And the Pineapple cake from Holts (Waycross not Douglas) was really good. I wonder why they don't use the local bakery's products? Holts in Douglas is the best!! I'll be back again for more catfish my next visit to Douglas. Overall...The Catfish House is getting better. The portions are surprisingly large for the price. The food has always been good. The staff have always been friendly and helpful, even accomadating special requests and a vegetarian in our group. They have not only seafood but steak, chicken and other menu items beside seafood.
