My husband and I came here during a visit to see our Aunt and we decided on the zoo as a way to spend the day. We went earlier in the year when it was still cold, but this was a fantastic day of strolling and there was practically no one there so we got to enjoy the quiet. The zoo itself is very well kept and small, but the perfect size to walk around and enjoy the scenery and variety of animals. I love that it is a campus where students come and help and learn and it is a requirement to do so. I wish I had that opportunity! This zoo is so organized and it was lovely to see specialized animals like red pandas, arctic foxes, and lemurs. We even got a chance to see a new baby lemur that had been recently born! What a great place to visit and was a perfect activity during covid and wonderful for any type of weather. I am looking forward to going back when it's warmer!

There's a decently sized parking area by the Pine Knob Loop trail, and it fills up quickly, even on a pretty chilly autumn day. It was probably one of the last times to get nice fall foliage in 2018. Altogether, this is a great place to go for a strenuous hike. It goes up abut 800ft to the Appalachian Trail, and then back down, all in about 4 miles. So, it's a pretty strenuous trail, but the views are totally worth it. After our hike, we went to one of the many picnic areas that are along the Housatonic River. There are a lot of pleasant meadow areas, picnic tables, and grills. The bathrooms are locked up for the season, which is a thing to be aware of if you're here during the off season. Altogether this is a nice place to see some sights and have a nice picnic. I'd definitely come here again.

Camp was always an important part of my childhood growing up and they are always set on beautiful lakes. It also allowed all of our guests to spend the whole weekend on site and participate in the outdoor activities that we love. We researched and looked at over 30 camps all over New England and I truly believe that we picked the best one. The grounds are beautiful and all of our guests were comfortable. What really elevated Camp Lenox was the staff. They were all so helpful and kind. They did not hesitate to drive guests around in golf carts or run across camp to get something for us. One guest was on crutches and said that she felt like she had a tracker on her, because whenever she needed to go somewhere, a golf cart was ready and waiting for her. The staff also did an amazing job setting up the reception area for us. They cared about the details and took their time. It was very apparent that they had done weddings before. It was so nice to invite all of the camp staff who worked our wedding out on the dance floor with us at the end of the night to celebrate the special day that they all took a part in creating. A few special shout outs are in order. Luke, the director of operations, was our point of contact during the planning process. He was always quick to respond to emails and answered all of our questions. He takes a lot of pride in the weddings that he organizes and it shows. He made the planning process so easy and we trusted him fully. Victor, the camp chef, made incredible food. My one worry planning a wedding at a camp was the food would just be ok. Boy, was I wrong. I have friends who are still talking about his potatoes, and my wedding was seven months ago. All of the meals were delicious. The camp owners, Rich and Stephanie, were so welcoming and kind. They are very proud of their camp and wanted to ensure that each of our guest were comfortable. 10/10 would recommend Camp Lenox for your wedding!

This mountain has the absolute worst management of any ski mountain I have ever been to. My family and I first discovered this mountain last year. So last year after having visited for an early year day ski trip we made plans to stay nearby for a couple of nights and ski a couple of days. Literally, the evening before we were set to arrive they called me to inform me that the mountain would be closed the next day as they were having problems with their lifts. Obviously, we were extremely upset having paid for a non-refundable hotel stay. I explained this to them and they were completely nonplussed. They acted as if though they were doing me a favor by refunding me my tickets....because they were closing the mountain. I spoke to one of their managers and she was absolutely unsympathetic. She simply could not care less. It was incredible. That was the last time we visited that mountain for the season. Fast forward to TODAY. I thought the above was a fluke. So I booked night skiing for my son and I. For TODAY at 3PM. They literally called me at 12:45p TODAY, while we were on our way driving up to tell me that they had canceled night skiing because...."it's going to be cold". No sh$& Sherlock. It's a ski mountain. What were you people expecting??? I skied Killington about a month ago. And it was around 3 degrees when we arrived to the mountain. Guess what, they were open. But, beyond this the people at Catamount actually called me 1 hour and 15 minutes before my ski time. To. Cancel!! WTF is wrong with these people. They didn't know it was going to be cold yesterday or the day before that or days before?!!! Come the f' on?!?! Again, they were completely nonplussed. The unprofessionalism and complete insensitivity for their customers is staggering. After this, I don't think we'll ever go back. Actually, I was planning to go with a group of friends this Friday. I think we'll go to another mountain. The management of this mountain sucks. You have been warned. Update: so they refunded my tickets. But, get this. They are still charging me a "booking fee". Can you frikin believe it?!?! They canceled on ME and they are trying to charge me a booking fee!!! Again, WTF?!?!?! The management at this mountain is the ABSOLUTE WORST!!!! DO NOT GO HERE!

Although the view from US-44 itself is uniquely neat (having been at the top of the mountain looking down), this Scenic Overlook is actually not so cool. I found it very hard to get some good pictures out of this valley. It was hot and so getting out of my car was nearly impossible. Then you can factor in the trees when sitting inside the Overlook looking into the valley. There's no shade trees or shady spots to park or sit inside the Overlook, so just getting out can actually make most people feel exhausted. I used my car to take a few pictures, but I can honestly say you'd be better off taking the pictures of the valley right from US-44 itself. This trip will not be forgotten. I don't think I"ll be coming through here too often again, but it was quite an experience. And because Amenia is only 5 miles from Sharon, CT, this is doable for a few minutes from those nearby. But don't expect to sit here for very long. (There is a Shell station in the valley of Amenia a few minutes away, but sitting at Shell can't reproduce the same effects.)

So what exactly is Satan's Kingdom?  Well, it's  a one acre state operated public recreation area on the Farmington River used for hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and tubing down the river's three sets of rapids courtesy of Farmington River Tubing. Where did that devilish name come from? I read that construction of a nearby railroad in the 1870's proved so difficult the railroad workers named it "Satan's Kingdom" In 2012 the recreation area gained Connecticut State Park status. We walked along the deserted grounds (tubing is closed for the season) and saw some very nice scenery and river views, Not one devil in sight.
