These people know how to market! A cat with a lei got my guy and I to come inside. The walls are filled with pictures of furbabies in leis and it is absolutely incredible. I ended up getting a lei for my dog and his best friend so they can match. The woman who owns the shop was the absolute sweetest and just soo pleasant to chat with. Such a wonderful shop, with incredible vintage screens and designs! My husband and I loved chatting with the owner while she made our shirts on the spot... Awesome shirt shop with a mission! The shop keeper is an angel! She saves, adopts out and most importantly gets the village kitties sterilized. Spaying and neutering is the only way to humanely control the population. Handmade pet leis are sold - those funds go towards kitty care and food. Once you get home you can take a photo of your furbaby with the leis on and email it back, it'll be displayed at the shop. We plan on holding a photo session when we get back home. Long story short. We visited the Spinning Dolphin in Oct 1997 and I bought two awesome custom made Amoo-Ha tee shirts. Gave one to my dad. It turned into our favorite tee shirts! Well his turned into his dress tee shirt which he literally kept forever and mine was shot over the 23 years of heavy use. With time on my hands during the Covid lockdowns and my fading memory of the store's location, I searched online to see if I could find the shop. Eventually, Melanie returned my email that in fact she still had the Amoo-Ha screen to make more. Melanie and the Spinning Dolphin are awesome. They really worked hard for me and I am now restocked for the moment. Definitely stop by on the way around the island. You can get a ho hum beach tee shirt anywhere, but these handmade shirts are very unique! And yes they ship. A truly awesome shop with unique items. I am thrilled. I was also impressed of her interest and compassion in Kauai's humane society. There were pictures of dogs and cats looking for good homes with their information on the counter to encourage adoptions, which is so great! One can also "rent" a dog for the day for fun excursions with tourists, which further adds to awareness of the humane society and encourages people to adopt. A win-win! Great store. This is quite possibly my favorite T-shirt store in the world. They have an excellent selection of high quality T-shirts, and you can get them custom made: you can pick a design and color of shirt and they will silk-screen the design onto the shirt right in front of you. (This is actually kind of interesting to watch.) My wife and I, on our very first trip to Hawaii more than 30 years ago, stopped by this establishment and bought a shirt each and were very happy with them, so when we were recently in Kauai again (this time with my adult daughter and her husband) we made a point of stopping by; this time we bought 3 shirts each, and one for our daughter. Prices are a little high for T-shirts, but not ridiculous given the quality; you're not buying the "3 for ten dollars" junk you see in the tourist stores.
