I want to start off by saying I love My orthodontist I will recommend anyone and everyone to him. He is very patient and caring about the outcome of your teeth. He talks to you let you feel very comfortable about everything that he's doing this is My orthodontist and I am very pleased and the pictures are my before and after in the works speaks for itself. Wow. This review is a long time coming. I received my orthodontic therapy from Dr. Darrell Spilsbury between the ages of nine and 13. My experience at this office was perfect. So much so, that at the young age of nine I resolved that I would one day be a dentist. Now, at the age of 35, I have been a happily practicing dentist for seven years. I was a junior in college when I finally decided to get braces and pay for them myself. Dr Spilsbury had the best plan, pricing and payment option too. Eight years after having my braces off, I walked back into his office to inquire about a permanent retainer. Everyone from the front desk to Dr Spilsbury remembered me right away and they took care of me. I get compliments on my teeth and smile all the time and I tell everyone about him! I'm pretty disappointed by my recent experience. As I kid I had braces done here so I thought it was the right place to come back to when one of my permanent retainers came off over the weekend. I called to make an appointment and I was quoted $25/tooth - so four teeth $100. After my experience, which I will elaborate on momentarily, I went to check out and I was told that it would be $250. I thought I misunderstood at first and the young lady at the front assured me I heard correctly. I explained that when I called the woman I spoke to said it was $25/tooth. She stated that if they need to replace the entire retainer it is $250. I protested that and said I was quoted the $100 on the phone and there was no mention of anything in the realm of $250. After some discussion back and forth I ended up paying the 250...what am I supposed to do after I've already had the wire glued to my teeth? It was pretty absurd to go in expecting a $100 bill and being told it was $250. That's a massive difference and quite frankly I will never go back based on that alone. Beyond the billing issue, I hate to write a poor review because Spilsbury seems like a really nice guy but regardless of your opinion on the pandemic I think it should be standard practice any medical professional wears a mask while working on a patient...he did not wear one as I laid in the chair obviously warm from the previous patient (clearly wasn't sanitized). I am disappointed to even have to mention this in my review. Should I have protested, should I have made the choice to leave? One could argue that I should have, but I believe it was the duty of the staff to take precautions on their end to begin with. read more

Dr.Spilsbury is amazing. My previous orthodontist screwed up my teeth after twice braces and 4 years treatment, so I was looking for a new orthodontist to make my teeth looks better. I went to another dentist first and they have high reviews on yelp and google. The dentist told me, she can make my teeth prettier as I want. However, Dr.Spilsbury told me he can give me braces but after 20 months of treatment, my teeth would definitely look different but no one would notice, only myself. He said: TBH with you, your teeth aren't as bad as you think, you don't need to spend unnecessary money to get another braces to fix your teeth and only yourself will notice after your 3rd-time brace treatment. He helped me to fix my gap problem, and it cost much less compared to get new braces and he told me, the most important thing to you right now is maintained your gum health and clean it well, that's the only way to help your teeth stay forever. Every time you move your teeth, more damage you would get. He cares about patients' teeth, not just patients' money. His skill is amazing and he is an awesome doctor! read more

Both of my children went to Spillsbury and now they have had LIFETIME retainers that have only lasted 3 years and will cost $250 dollars to fix while the process only lasts 10-15 minutes sounds like a lifetime of payments to fix need to find a better Orthodontist one that's not trying to screw his patients read more

Dr. Spilsbury is the absolute BEST! I had previously Had braces as an adult and was not satisfied with the results. My prior Orthodontist did not follow through with providing me with the proper aftercare and retainers, therefore my teeth had moved substantially. I've visited Dr. Spilsbury and voiced my concerns and he assured me that he would be able to fix my smile. Being that I am in a service industry where my smile is a huge part of my uniform, I was very happy with his plans, and his thorough explanation to me as to what the process would look like. The application of the braces was completely painless, and as every month pass by I could see a dramatic change. When the braces came off I was ecstatic, even though I had braces before, the results were nowhere near what Dr. Spilsbury was able to provide. At the end of my treatment because my teeth had moved so much, I had some small holes near the tops of my smile. Dr. Spilsbury adjusted these for me and my smile looks even better. My permanent retainers are super comfortable, and I've never been more proud of my smile in my entire life! Dr. Spilsbury genuinely cares about each and every one of his patients. I've watched him interact with others and he treats them with such respect. The office staff at Dr. Spilsburys' is very professional, Sabrina is always greeting people with her sparkling personality and kindness. Having been through a childhood and adult life full of orthodontic work, I wish Dr. Spilsbury had been my Orthodontist for the entire experience. If I could give 10 stars I would. I was a returning patient. Had braces from him when I was young. Later I had Invisalign from him, then, (many yrs later) when the glue came off of my permanent retainer my teeth shifted and now I needed braces again (according to him). He told me it'd take a yr. but he took them off AS SOON as he collected his $, which I paid in 6 mos. He didn't use any spacing technique and instead SHAVED MY TEETH. I asked him to not do that, but he disregarded my request completely. I'm not an orthodontist, but it's pretty CLEAR that he didn't want to take the time to realign them properly and was looking for a short cut. He was a HUGE waste of money as my teeth are still fkd up and now shaved. He then slapped a permanent retainer on misaligned teeth. Voila. Done. They look and feel like SHIT but he got his $ so he doesn't gaf. He's very condescending, arrogant, dismissive, somewhat insulting and couldn't care less about his patients or how their teeth look OR function. I would STRONGLY recommend people look further than him for orthodontic work. Maybe the lack of care and concern is bc he wants to retire (ASAP?) and I think for the sake of his patients, he should. I was a patient here as a teen. I started my treatments when I was about 11 years old and continued until 19 (between treatment and routine follow ups). After being seen by another orthodontist who wanted to pull teeth and put me on a plan that included about 4 years of braces, my mom sought out a second opinion from Dr. Spilsbury. Not one tooth was pulled and my treatment time was cut in half. I have horrible anxiety when it comes to getting my teeth worked on thanks to a horrendous dental experience as a child, but Dr. Spilsbury and his staff were more than understanding and did all they could to make sure I felt safe and comfortable. I had my braces put on in the 6th grade and removed at the beginning of 8th grade. I had to wear headgear, but Dr was awesome and told me to only wear it at night because he wasn't out to destroy my life in junior high. lol After I got my braces off, he put me in retainers and eventually gave me an invisalign retainer for the top teeth. Literally the day after I got it, I threw it away on accident while at Wet N Wild (Oh... the memories). I called my mom in tears and she called Dr. Spilsbury's office. They replaced it for free (on the condition that I wouldn't do it again. I never did) and never made me feel bad about it. My teeth did end up shifting a bit after high school between my facial structure changing and my wisdom teeth coming in. I got my braces put back on after I got engaged so my teeth would be straight again for my wedding. Being completely understanding of budget and time constraints as well as being bummed out about having braces put back on at 19, Dr. Spilsbury worked with me. He gave me a great price since I was now a cash customer and pushed my treatment as hard and fast as he could. My braces were off in 4 months and I now have permanent retainers. Close to 7 years later, and my teeth still look perfect. I recommend him to anyone and everyone who will listen. read more

I was a patient of Dr Spilsbury as a teen when I had braces. I was fortunate enough to have my parents insurance pay for the entire treatment so I cannot comment on this aspect but I can comment on his quality of work. As an adult I constantly get compliments on my teeth, even from dentists. Every dentist I have gone to comments on how straight my teeth are and ask who my orthodontist was because they are so impressed with my alignment. Really, its crazy. I moved to Orange County last year and two dentists I visited made the same comments after cleaning my teeth. It happens EVERY time! I had my braces on for a year and yesterday I got them off and guess what I haven't stopped getting compliments since I got them off. I have had three of my kids treated by Dr. Spilsbury and I agree he is the best in town. He only prescribes permanent solutions so your kids don't have to wear braces twice . He refuses to put on a set of braces too early which is unique; he makes sure their teeth are at the level they need to be before he does treatment. Most orthodontists tend to do what ever a parent demands. I would highly recommend Dr. Spilsbury for getting the right treatment the first time. My experience was great. My teeth look awesome. My only complaint (which I think is a big one) is that they reuse their rubber gloves! When the assistant is done they turn them inside out for the doc to reuse. Then the go from patient to patient without washing their hands. I think they can afford new gloves for each patient. read more
