Dr. Spilman never asked what I went to his clinic and finished his cursory visit in 5-6 minutes. He asked me very few questions and when he did, he talked over my voice. He misdiagnosed the cause of my disequilibrium issue and wanted to me to return after 1 and 1/2 months for diagnostic work. DO not see this doctor unless you want to be belittled. He has really bad bedside manner. My partner went in for sialadentitis and upon entering the room he roughly touched the stone under her jaw and asked her how long she's had the problem he then said this is not an emergency and you need to go to your primary physician and see someone else. He also said, I dont take medi-cal. Mind you I checked with the office assistant PRIOR to taking a day off to go to this appointment that this doctor took medical. someone was confused and needs to take responsibility for the waste of time and resources. THIS IS WHY I ASKED WHAT INSURANCE YOU TAKE PRIOR TO MY APPOINTMENT. we were also referred by dominican hospital. He was rude, dismissive and abrasive. Are used to take Zantac 150 Benadryl and Zyrtec Albuterel for breathing Prednisone 20 mg pills take three. The sub-lingual drops are a godsend. I have taken allergy shots for years, and I reacted too my allergy shots. I allergic to pollen, dust mites,and latex. I didn't go outside because my allergies were so bad. Dr Spilman decided to have the sub-lingual drop. I'm on my four year and I can have flowers in my house,the dust mites don't bother me. The allergy are gone. And I don't take any medicines for allergies anymore. read more

My experience with Dr. Spilman was amazing! I've been having sinus issues for a year and a half now and was being seen by another ENT...who wanted to rush to surgery without discussion, was annoyed when I asked questions and always rushed me out of his office. I was so incredibly pleased with Dr. Spilman. He took his time with me, answered ALL of my questions and concerns (knowing how anxious I was) and he came up with a treatment plan. FINALLY, after a year and a half, I feel like I can stop worrying and start treating!!!! Dr. Spilman was so compassionate and didn't make me feel ridiculous for my questions. I left there feeling SO relieved and most importantly HEARD! I'm so grateful for him and highly recommend him to anyone! read more

The allergy panel here seems to have proprietary results, when I brought it to my main allergy doctor he told me the info was worthless and in no type of standard format. Had to redo everything. I signed up originally for some immunotherapy allergy shots, but it turned out my insurance declined to cover, so I tried to cancel. Spilman's office charged me over a thousand dollars for a single shot, and wanted to give me shots every month for a year! $10k for immunotherapy shots? come on man you guys need to be upfront about the cost of this stuff. read more

We brought our 6 year old in for excessive hardened ear wax removal. The doctor's bedside manner was very short and abrupt. The doctor treated us like we were ignoring the problem and interrupted when we were explaining what steps we took to correct the problem. While treating the issue with ear drop, he ignored our daughter's requests to be gentle while Dr. Spilman use a sharp needle like tool in her ear. He was rough and lacked compassion. Our daughter's ear canal was still red a week later. After a few minutes of trying to remove the wax he gave up. We suggested he let the ear drops soak for a while to loosen the wax, but he said, "I don't have 12 hours to remove it." Dr. Spilman then said SURGERY might be needed to remove the ear wax, which seems very excessive for ear wax. We will not be going back to this abrasive, uncompassionate doctor. First off, this is the first time I have ever been to a specialist. I have no qualm with Dr. Spilman himself. I do have an issue with the offices underhanded billing practices. I contacted my insurance company to figure out cost of the visit the day prior to my appointment. I was informed that my copay would only be $25. I arrived to my appointment on time and gave the front desk my insurance card then went in for my consultation. After it was completed I returned to the front office and went to pay my copay. The young lady at the front counter informed me that the total cost was going to be $324.76. Upon questioning this she informed me it was because they used a camera during my consultation. I told her that I was never informed of any additional cost associated with the consultation during my visit. I was told that I signed an inclined consent form for the procedure of using the camera. The form did not quote any cost associated with the use of the camera from what I recall. It did however give the Dr. Spilman the consent to use it during the consultation. How was I supposed to know there was a cost? Nobody in the office informed me prior to the use of it. I am not a medical professional nor do I have a medical degree. How am I supposed to know what a routine consultation with a specialist consists of? This was my first visit to a specialist and I felt very comfortable with Dr. Spilman. Unfortunately I would not be able to recommend his practice because of the omission of cost. Be wary, this office seems to be for profit and not for healthcare. read more

Saw him once because he was out of network for me. He was Great! I had intermittent tonsillitis with high fever every few weeks for over 18 months. But I could never get an appointment with the PAMF ENT on the days I had a flare up. Since PAMF would not see me when I was actually ill, they refused to treat me. Dr. Spillman said to call him as soon as I was sick and then saw me the same day. He diagnosed tonsillitis. I had him do the surgery and the illness was gone. Completely satisfied. read more

When I get my allergy shots I wait 15 minutes in the Allergy shot area and have over the years seen many many patients and can honestly say I have never seen a upset patient. I really like Dr. Spilman. I've seen him in office about 5 times, and he generously spoke to me over the phone several more times with no fee. We have discussed at length or he has treated me for: Surgery for a deviated septum, snoring problems, waking up violently gasping for breath in the middle of the night, bronchitis, and respratory infecttions. I'm one who can sometimes be an annoyance to some doctors, as I exhibit anxiety about my illnesses and ask a ton of questions. I often think of something to ask on the way out, and try to get a doctors attention after he already left the exam room. Dr. Spliman greeted me well from the very first visit, really knows his stuff, answered ALL my questions generously without ever making me feel like it bothered him or that he wanted to end the visit before I felt it was complete. Just very good with making sure I was getting all the answers I was seeking. I felt he was incredibly knowlegeable, very skilled, and explained things to me very well. If I thought of something to ask on the way out, he would kindly make himself available to me again if he wasn't yet with another patient. I am sorry to hear about the experiences that seemed to be the opposite. I feel there was either a reason, or maybe he's just really learned to develop an excellent manner since then. I am a retired teacher after thirty three years. My MD noticed my hoarse voice and recommended seeing Dr. Spilman, After a scope,he discovered polyps on my vocal chords. He referred me to Cynthia Rogers,the speech therapist in his office. With her encouragement, exercises,and therapy I have mastered a smooth, calm voice. Had a referral to see Dr. Spilman. Made the appointment and came in on the scheduled day. I never saw the doctor. The receptionist with the long blond hair and tattoos was extremely rude to the point of racism. We felt so uncomfortable that I asked for a new referral to another ENT specialist. I was diagnosed with Zenkers Diverticulum which is a pouch formed at the esophagus. Dr. Spilman was chosen almost at random. Turns out he's a really good doctor, well versed in the use of new procedures, and easy to communicate with. My operation was done at Dominican Hospital and went perfect. No pain medication was needed. I had full recovery in one week and had my followup this morning. I would highly recommend this doctor. He has offices both in Watsonville and Santa Cruz so it's very convenient. read more

Dr. Spillman has seen both my children for the last few years. My son needed a Septoplasty for a deviated septum, and my daughter needed her tonsils removed. They both feel very comfortable with Dr. Spilman. At the pre-op appointment he addressed all there concerns regarding the surgery explaining what to expect. He always talks to them directly making them feel apart of there care. Having both children having surgery on the same day can be very nerve racking on a Mom, however Dr. Spillman and the entire staff at Central Coast Surgery Center made me and both kids at ease! They were incredibly kind and went out of there way to make it a pleasant experience. Recovery went well because we were all very well educated on what to expect. The follow up calls which assured me everything we were experiencing was normal was very appreciated. My son is now a self proclaimed " breathing machine" it has helped him sleep better and helped with his headaches, he's very pleased and tells everyone how great Dr. Spillman is. My daughter is not only sleeping better but the dark circles under her eyes have gone away now that she sleeps better. This is huge in a young teenage girls life ( kids are hard on each other and would make fun of her dark circles under her eyes!!) So simply put Dr. Spilman comes with the highest recommendation from our family !!!! read more
