So, THIS is what Indian food is SUPPOSED to taste like! If you have ever eaten in an Indian restaurant and thought the things I did... heat without flavor, dried out, uninspired, every dish tastes just like the last one, then like me, you have never actually eaten in an Indian restaurant; just an imitation created by Indians who can't actually cook. Or Pakistanis. Or Mexicans. Or maybe even, Californians. Having never been to India myself, I cannot say that this is REAL Indian food. But if it isn't, it certainly ought to be! Absolutely breathtaking. India has lots and lots of jewels. But one of them has relocated to Abilene, Texas! Don't waste any time getting there. I came here with my dad for lunch a couple of times and we always got the chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. The food was always delicious! Unfortunately this restaurants bathroom is absolutely disgusting and I've seen lots of bugs, trash, dirt everywhere and the toilets usually have one clogged and out of order at all times. I love the food but that makes me think twice about the cleanliness of the kitchen.... and we haven't been in a long time because of it. If they took better care of their bathroom and kept things clean and sanitary we would come back. read more

I had become bored with the food restaurants here in Abilene. After having previously noticed Spicy India when driving around, I decided to try it. I was not disappointed. I ordered the goat curry which is served with basmati rice. It was very good, the kind of spicy that teased the palate, not too overwhelming, but not too weak, either. Then, the rasmalai for dessert. Went to Spicy India for lunch just now with a friend. We had different versions of their Combo Lunch meal - I had Chicken Curry, and she had Lamb Curry. You get 5 different dishes, with basmati rice & naan. The menu was written out by hand, so I really didn't quite know what all I had, but there was a spicy soup with potato, a fried chicken bit, the curry, the rice, and a fried dough ball with honey. I also had the mango lassi. All quite good and very reasonably priced - I'm stuffed (and had a bit left over!) I will be back to try their larger dinner offerings. The only thing I wish they had that aren't currently on the menu are pappadam, which I adore. Perhaps in the future. Let's make sure this one doesn't close, folks! read more

It was chicken fat fried with spicy sauce over it Our 3 dinners , one was returned for having nothing but chicken grizzle in it , the other 2 were ok Not a lot of meat in any of the meals Chicken vindaloo was bland , I have had better from a jar. My husband and I stop here whenever we go on long road trips east. Take it from an Indian woman who has eaten at plenty of Indian restaurants--this place is LEGIT. We ordered the paneer tikka masala, the spicy Indian chicken curry, chili paneer, Shalabi mango lassi, and cucumber cooler (yes this place has wonderful cocktails!). Because my husband is American, most people don't believe he can take spicy food, but these folks made it as spicy as we like it (which is VERY spicy). Service is at a reasonable pace as well (can't rush good food). I recommend to anyone who wants to get authentic Indian food with quality cooking and healthy portions.
