We ordered the pickled Veggie with pickled chilli fish filet, the portion is huge, great for sharing. The fish was cooked perfectly and the Veggie put it all together. We ate it with some rice. This would be a great dish for the winter. Both, the lamb meat and kidney skewers were also grilled to perfection. Well seasoned and meat and kidney were super tender. If you are not a fan of cumin, I would skip this. They use a lot of cumin, in exchange, no gamey taste. I definitely want to go back and try some more skewers as well as other dishes. OK, I never get five stars. But this was so good! So don't let the restaurant's appearance or atmosphere affect you. The staff was so friendly, personable, funny, and engaging. They were not overly, but it was an experience that was created of having dinner at a friend's house. The young man challenged my friend, who didn't know how to use chopsticks, to learn how to use them, and if he could pick up a piece of food with them, he would give him a soda on the house. That right there was great atmosphere and great service, and guess what: my friend did it! He honored the deal and gave us the soda for free. Now I'm not saying everybody's gonna get that, but that's the kind of atmosphere that was created. Since it was a Chinese food restaurant, the service was fast. By the time you drink about half of your class of water or half of your cup of tea, the food that you ordered is coming to the table. I wish I had taken pictures of the food like I normally do, but it was so good that I didn't. I promise you I will return, and I will take all kinds of food pics for you to see. This food was the best Chinese food I've had in the city. The food alone was a four-star review. The fifth star is based on the overall experience. The restaurant was unassuming, but a great find. This restaurant is located right next to the big 99 Ranch Asian store on Florin Rd. It's just off the 99, go west on Florin and you can't miss it. My friend who's Chinese told me the dinner was gonna be more "authentic" meaning there wasn't gonna be any egg rolls or General's chicken. I did notice I was the only one at the table that didn't have black hair! Some of her friends as well as her don't really speak any Chinese cause they were born and raised here, so there was enough English spoken, I wasn't lost or anything. Service was fast and efficient, but not super friendly. The menu dishes were all ordered in advance. The food just started coming out and placed on the round rotating thingy in the middle of the table. Soup was first and was served into bowls for each person. It was a veggie kinda soup, tasted decent. Next was mapo tofu. I had this one before. My friend said it's really called mapo "DAU'FU" in Chinese. Tofu is for Japanese food. Learn something new everyday! Then there were some green veggies, roast duck, braised pork belly with those steamed white buns that look like lips .. well, to me they do! There were other dishes I don't know what they were, but I do remember there were some spicy fried wings, I did like those! It's enough for the two of us with leftovers. we also got the tan tan noodles, which was decent but not amazing. the noodles at Tasty dumplings is better. this one was not as chewy as I wanted and the flavors were solid but not special. So happy to finally visit this place! After asking numerous people where to find authentic Szechuan cuisine in Sacramento, Spicy Dragon's name popped up repeatedly. It's the real deal and deserves every bit of praise it receives. Water boiled fish - I order this any time I step into a Szechuan restaurant. They nailed this one in terms of presentation, flavor, ratio of fish to vegetables, and spice level (not for the faint of heart by the way). 5/5 Numbing spicy beef combo - Not too oily, split roughly half and half between beef and tripe. The tendinous portion of the beef tasted exquisite. 4.5/5 Mapo tofu - In my opinion, no visit to a Szechuan restaurant is complete with this dish. Spicy Dragon makes a solid version of it with a decent ratio of tofu/pork to bean paste. I barely visualized any peppercorns in it (a plus for me since I dislike accidentally eating one), yet the flavor still remained satisfactory. 4/5 Kung pao chicken - Ah what the hell, if you really want it go ahead. I know a lot of non-Chinese Americans love this dish. It does originate from the Szechuan province, so it's still considered authentic. While it doesn't taste bad by any means, I just feel like this restaurant has so much more to offer. 3.5/5 Stir fried vegetables and water spinach - A solid choice of greens for the group. It's seasoned with a light salt which makes it easy to chow down on. 4/5 Lamb skewers - crowd pleaser that's also hard for any authentic Chinese restaurant to mess up. It's just that our regular menu closes at 9:30pm and our skewer menu is open until 10:30pm". My thought to that is this: the original server who asked the chef if it were okay for us to order had no idea if we were ordering the regular menu or skewers. My family ordered the Numbing Spicy Beef Combo, Pork Intestine with Pickled Vegetables, Pork Kidney with Hunan Spicy Sauce, and Cauliflower with Mixed Chillies. I ordered the Pork Kidney in the past and the cook on the kidneys was definitely better than the first, however the pieces were still very thin and small and they packed on the chilis, so you barely got any kidney. The same was true for the Pork Intestines and Cauliflower where I felt there were more peppers than actual meat. My favorite dish was definitely the Numbing Spicy Beef. I thought the flavor was very good and tasted like other Szechuan restaurants I've been to. Although the service has always been good, I probably wouldn't return here. read more

Personally it should be marketed differently, but it was delicious. Shrimp Chow Mein: Looked pretty basic, flavor was ok, still cooked to the perfect consistency. Filled with fresh onions, but very minimal shrimp. The shrimp was extremely "fishy" tasting if that makes sense, but still remained decent. War Wonton Soup: Served with a fair amount of veggies and wontons. Came with chicken and shrimp (still fishy). Soups are usually my go to for new places due to my personal obsession with broths. This broth tasted more like the sesame oil, I assume the ingredients were cooked in instead of the traditional broth flavor. A friend invited me to eat there the other day. I ate there about a month ago and thought the food was okay but It was kind of warm inside ( like they were too cheap to turn on the a/c). I called them to inquire about their air conditioner and was told it wasn't fixed yet. I relayed my findings to my friend. She called them and was told that they have an air conditioner. Hmm. We ended up going and it felt over 80 degrees in there. I look at the wait staff and 3 of them are fanning themselves with menus. It was over 110 degrees outside that day. I give the food 4 out of 10 stars and the ambience 0 out of 10. Turns out both calls were right. The central a/c didn't feel like it was working but they had a POS portable unit on top of a cooler. Found this place quite by accident and as our third try today. The first two places we stopped ended up being carry out only. Glad we kept trying! We had the veggie spring rolls, veggie fried rice, and veggie chow mein. All were flavorful. I really liked the fried rice. The egg was cooked just right for my liking - a little brown on the edges. It wasn't seasoned with soy sauce, but the rice was still white with just the perfect amount of salt. The chow mein was tasty - the veggies fresh and not overcooked and lots of them! The spring rolls were the temperature of molten lava when they got to our table, so we had to fight every urge not to grab them and dig in, but instead let them cool to an edible temperature. They were delicious as well. We were hoping for hot mustard, but they don't have it. They do however have a delicious sweet/sour sauce that we both enjoyed. They are vegan friendly! I came here with a group of vegans and explained that we're vegan and we cannot do oyster sauce or fish sauce. The waiter told me that they do not have these things in their kitchen! I also told the waiter about egg noodles and he told me that the noodles had egg in them. Three of the four dishes I ordered were not spicy- Sizzling Eggplant and Tofu with Garlic Sauce, Dry Braised String Beans, and Salt and Pepper Pork Chops. The chicken wings fried with like a pound of chilly peppers and peppercorn was the highlight. It was numbing, garlicky and spicy. A little too much dried chilli and not enough chicken for an expensive dish. The assortment of skewers were on the dry side and over seasoned for our taste. Orange chicken was just alright. Reminded me of the ones from Costco's frozen aisle. And, the waiters weren't the friendliest but were easy to flag down. They definitely favor Mandarin speaking people.
