Tried this indoor range out for ten random visits over two months, before I pulled the trigger and…read morebecame a member. Rarely have to wait to get a lane, and never had to wait longer than 15 minutes (has only happened when I arrived during peak times on a Saturday afternoon). I tried out every range in the Jacksonville area, and I chose to become a member of this one for several reasons. Primary deciding factor: the people. The owners, employees, fellow shooters and even the range officers have all been good, reasonable people. Elsewhere in Jacksonville, my experiences with range officers have ranged from inexplicably unpleasant to insultingly arrogant... and at 52 years old, I get it, it's a high stress gig that has to deal with every sort of human being. My observations of the folks at Basic Range conclude that they have been stern only when it's called for and are serious when it comes to customer safety and making sure that no one gets injured. They have always been great with helping beginners, giving them the extra hands on attention they need. They are also very good at letting those seasoned veterans do their own thing without unnecessary interference. Something that I never found at any other shooting range in Jacksonville. The range is exactly as advertised, basic... and that suits me just fine. If you want the latest high def, twelve inch tv monitor in every lane with a range officer of your very own who interjects with their opinions between every shot... or if you enjoy being molested during a pat down, like the airport TSA agents do when searching you before getting on a plane.... go elsewhere. If you enjoy shooting and having a good time doing it, Basic is for you.

I learned that .22 Long is not the same as .22 Long Rifle. Less grains and slightly shorter. Those bullets were jamming my gun. Looking forward to shooting with right bullets.

OTS is serviceable, but there are better experiences to be had at other ranges…read more The range itself, * The target system is very nice and modern, as is the ventilation. * Being able to staple targets is a plus. * The sound concussion is wild, .223/5.56 sounds as loud as .308s I've stood next to at other indoor ranges. Of all the places I've shot, I absolutely have to double up on hearing protection here. They really should invest in putting up sound deadening foam on the walls. As for the staff, * Some are friendly and genuinely good people, then a few are straight up standoffish. * Atmosphere in general can be somewhat unwelcoming. * The RSO's are inconsistent, one guy was perfectly fine with me practicing emergency reloads then the next time I came I was told I'm not allowed too by someone else. * You need to be a paying member just to qualify for practicing draws from concealment. I understand walking someone through safe drawing practices before giving the green light. However, other ranges will allow you to do this and work with you on safe technique, free of charge. * Way too excessive on ammunition check, once I brought in factory new sealed boxes of Fiocchi 5.56 55gr m193 ball and 9mm 115gr fmj they opened and ran a magnet through all of them. Final thoughts, This happens to be the closest indoor range to me, but I'd rather drive farther at the cost of my convenience in exchange for a better experience.

A CAUTIONARY TALE for future customers of St Nicholas Gun and Sporting Goods…read more In 2018, I was given a gift certificate with no expiration date to use at St Nicholas' new gun range. I took a friend for a range session. I used the gift certificate to pay for both of our range charges. There was a balance of approximately $48.00 on the gift certificate. I was handed a St Nicholas-branded receipt with the remaining balance handwritten. I stuffed the receipt in my gun bag. Years pass. While cleaning out my gun bag one day, I found the gift certificate receipt with the outstanding balance. Returned today for another range session. Pulled out the gift certificate balance, here again with no expiration date, to pay, and was told that it would not be honored. The reason? There was a new owner. Admittedly, it had been a while since I had used the gift certificate. Still, regardless of time, the money had been paid to St Nicholas Gun and Sporting Goods. Take this experience as a cautionary tale that may or may not influence any future business you might consider doing with St Nicholas Gun and Sporting Goods.
