    BITTER GOURD (KARELA)
    Daren R.

FOUND A GOURD... The Spice Bazar has authentic Indian foods and spices located in the Town of Davie. If you love spices that tingle your senses then you're gonna be elated with the unique inventory here. Once I saw the array of fresh fruits and vegetables lining the plastic bins I knew this was going to be an artisan adventure. The bitter gourd or Karela, which is a melon fruit that resembles a warty cucumber native to Asia and Africa, immediately drew my interest as did the oddly low prices for the other vibrant foods. I grabbed a full bag of white onions for only $1.19, how is this even possible? A mound of hairy coconuts for only a buck each, for some reason I had to shake one to hear the milk. This bazar may be my new place for veggies and fruits. The meat freezer in the back was empty for some reason. The cumin spices were emanating throughout, making no doubt that this was an Indian market at heart. Every aisle contained a posted sign alerting customers, "All Sales Are Final", with no returns or exchanges. I'm sure this helps keep the price of the produce low. As I paid for my onions, I noticed an orange juice dispensary offering fresh servings of OJ for a steep $3.99 a cup, which was a nice addition, but not a deal. It would have been better to view fresh oranges next to the machine as a marketing tool, but hey, I dont run the place.

Everything here was fresh and smelled great. Some of the oddest spices of every category. Bought some white onions for a taco dinner tonight. Can't believe that the entire bag was only $1.19.

Recently opened on May 25th in the old Ace Educational Supply space. They have Grand Opening Specials through June 25th so come check them out. They have more than just spices... everything from fresh vegetables, bags of rice, frozen meals, ice cream, canned drinks, coffee, teas, crackers, cookies, incense and so much more. If you're hungry and want a little snack, they have fresh samosas for only $1 which is located by the check out register. I'm not sure if they always have this and if that's the regular price. The staff are very helpful and friendly. It was very clean and organized. Parking is plentiful.

The store is good but I'm surprised by the prices. I don't know if all the Indian grocery stores do this or not but this store charges different price than listed on the package. I understand that they can decide their own price when it comes to food packaging with Indian rupees listed on it, but I'm kinda surprised that the store decide to put its own price, even though the price is listed in dollars on the package.

    Selling Expiry products

Selling expiry products, when I ask a question, he replied to me that, he is getting the expiry products from the vendor and he is selling to customers. Please refer the following pics.

The store is clean, it is organized, and the prices are reasonable. Definitely a place to come back to.

Clean with all variety at best prices

Many of the products in the store are expired, and I've noticed instances where old expiry dates are altered, with new dates added manually.

The store clerk immediately greeted me. As I admired the entire wall of bourbon, the clerk began offering me small tasting cups. Although I am more of a red wine drinker than a bourbon enthusiast, I appreciated the opportunity to sample several bourbons. Since I was buying a bottle as a gift for a friend, the Two Bitch Bourbon Batch #8 caught my eye. Afterward, I walked around the store and purchased Coffee Cake Cream Liqueur and S7S Dreamsicle Cream Liqueur. For another friend, I purchased a kitchen towel and a bottle of Buck Summit Old Vine Zinfandel. The store clerk was also knowledgeable about wines because I asked for a wine similar to Duckhorn. At the checkout counter, another store clerk also demonstrated an excellent knowledge of wines and even suggested food pairings that would complement my selection. I also purchased the Classic Italian Stack--an assortment of oils--for a friend who is a chef. Spirits & Spice also offers a rewards program. Overall, I found the staff to be friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to help, making for a very enjoyable shopping experience.

Whiskey, tequila, cream drinks, oils etc. We walked around the store and when asked they would give you a taste sample. What a wonderful concept before you purchase a bottle. My husband ended up buying a bottle of tequila. So many wonderful gift ideas as well. It's a must to visit.
