Dr. Pinto has multiple patients with EDS, and puts in the time and effort to adjust her care for the ways the disorder impacts tooth and gum health. Finding my nerves for filling replacement has always been a trial for dentists. As is common in EDS, I go through anesthesetic quickly and variably depending on anaesthetic type and dose. I've worked closely with Dr. Pinto to figure out how to get me numbed up effectively. I also want to give a shout-out to her straightforwardness in working with patients with severe anxiety and depression. It's really common to have to expend precious energy reassuring medical professionals who are uncomfortable with the idea of depression/anxiety. (This is a significant boundary to medical care for folks dealing with these issues.) Not so with Dr. Pinto. Upon learning about the depth of my partner's profound depression/anxiety, all she had to say was "you're on meds? You're working with professionals? Good. So about your teeth..." And that was it. No pity, no fear, no need to manage her emotions and expectations. From the moment i walked in, I knew i wanted to establish care here. The office is inviting and calming, with separate rooms, ample windows, and tranquil paintings. The entire staff is warm and welcoming. My dental assistant was efficient and we were even able to combine my new patient exam and cleaning into a single visit since I was already there. The hygienist was amazing--she talked me through the entire process, was so gentle that I didn't feel any pain while she was scraping or flossing, and even asked me about college. We established a hand signal as a way to communicate if I needed a moment. My dentist, Dr. Heer, was also wonderful. She gave me a jaw massage to release tension, complimented my teeth, and even joked about me winning an Olympic gold medal after I mentioned my athletic pursuits. Because of that last time, I was lucky to have found this dental office, so I knew just who to call. They got me in first thing the next morning! On this visit, Nancy was warm & friendly as she took an xray & cleaned off my crown. Dr. Libraty confirmed that my tooth underneath was fine, & the crown itself was fine. Whew! He explained that over time, crowns take a lot of pressure & the cement can detach after a while. Thankfully, he just adjusted my crown & re-cemented it in, & I was on my way. Between my first visit & this second visit, I have come to really appreciate the warm professionalism of everyone here.
