Carol is a wonderful host and lovely person. She made us feel incredibly welcome and her home is beautiful! Beds were comfortable, food was good including sweet treats in the afternoon. We will definitely stay again next time we are in Havre de Grace!

Never stayed at a bed and breakfast before and based my wife and I experience we new this was some place special. Home was absolutely timeless and pristine. The owner treated us more like we where family than a guest. The stay offered the customary items you would expect, with many personal touches that where delightfully unexpected. Location was within all local shops and attractions. Looking forward to returning with the rest of our family sometime shortly!

Completely relaxed in the Garden Room.

I spent two days at the Spencer Silver Mansion last week and I can't wait to go back! My trip was partly for business but my main goal was to relax. Carol could not have been more helpful and accommodating. I have multiple sclerosis and she was so kind that she carried my bags in and out. By the time I left I felt that I had made a friend. I highly recommend this establishment as a treat for yourself or for a special occasion. xxoo

Spencer Silver Mansion is one of my favorite places to visit when I'm in the Havre de Grace / Baltimore area. The town is beautiful and interesting to walk through because it has been a part of our nation's history since the early 1800's. The actual mansion is beautiful as well, and my stays there are always relaxing. The owner, Carol, is so accommodating and makes a delicious breakfast, too. I highly recommend including Spencer Silver Mansion and Havre de Grace in your next visit to the East Coast.

We arrived a few minutes late after fighting Friday traffic out of D.C. The innkeeper, Jane, was very understanding and we made sure to keep in contact with her on our progress. When we arrived she was still there waiting for another couple (and never showed). Jane was very nice and personable and gave us a quick tour of the house which had been in her family since it was built. The short story is that there's lots of history in the house. Beautiful photos, paintings, lamps, instruments, etc. It is really amazing and she is very happy to share with guests what she knows and where it all came from. Our room was comfortable and clean. We had a nice little outside deck if we wanted to step out or let a breeze in.Jane warned us to be sure to keep the door shut at night as bats could pay us a visit. No thank you. Breakfast was ready and waiting each morning and and the food was delicious. Fresh fruit, coffee, eggs, sausage, pastries, etc. Delicious. More than I usually eat for breakfast when at home. She does own two dogs but those are only allowed into the guest area by invitation. She's on-site which was also reassuring as well. I definitely recommend staying here if you're in the area.

The place was spotlessly clean. (2) Breakfasts were good, homemade, nutritiously balanced, and plentiful. In addition, available in the dining area at any time of the day were juice, fruit, coffee/tea, and cartons of yogurt. (3) Location is excellent. It's a one-block walk from the water and the light house. If you have a room with a balcony at the front of the house, you can watch the moon over the river. (4) B&B hostess is on site, knows the area exceptionally well, and will tell you anything you might ever want to know about Havre de Grace, past or present. Hostess was kind, gracious, and absolutely polite. (5) Negatives: Guest rooms are small, and the mattress I experienced was quite firm. However, regarding the firm mattress, my solution for the second night was to fold a blanket under me. If you don't like a firm mattress, ask the hostess for an extra blanket or two, fold them, and let them be your cushion on the firm mattress. The mattress was _not_ worn or old; rather, it was simply quite firm, and I do not like firm mattresses. Havre de Grace is just the neatest little historic town! In warm weather, this place would be perfect: Of the B&B's in HdG, this place is closest to the water. It's less than a two-block walk to the start of what the locals call "the Promenade," which is the boardwalk along the river. At the same time, in warm weather, it's just a quick few blocks walk to the historic downtown area of Havre de Grace. The house is located on what is called "The Lafayette Trail," something of a historic walk thru and around Hdg. So, my recommendation is positive, but be prepared for a very firm mattress.

We stayed in The Law Library. The view from the room was fun--we could look out our window and see people walking around the town. You can't beat the location--you can walk everywhere. The architecture was so cool. The house had lots of acute and obtuse angles to fit on the lot between the city streets. The living room was so cozy. I wish my own living room could be so welcoming. We especially loved getting to know Maggie the dog, sweetie extraordinaire. The couple that runs the property are nice and down to earth. They have coffee out in the morning and the woman cooks a full gourmet Breakfast where you get a chance to meet the other travelers! You also have access to Tea/cookies and snacks throughout your stay. It really felt like home while we were there. Parking garages are nearby and they can hook you up with a half off discount code. We'll be back!

Located on Kent Island overlooking the Chesapeake, this is the perfect getaway. It took us about an hour to drive there from downtown (with no traffic) and was easy to find on a lightly traveled road a few miles from the main highway. The house is massive, but there are only two rooms available for guests. We recommend the Osprey room, which overlooks the bay. In the morning, you wake to a glorious sunrise on the bay. This is soon followed by breakfast carefully prepared by Maria and Ed Peffly, the owners. Each morning we had fresh fruit, and coffee followed by a main breakfast. One morning it was a salmon frittata the next is was blueberry and banana pancakes. The only down side of breakfast was having to muster uncomfortable conversation with the other couple there who were on a romantic getaway. But that is par for the course at a B+B. During the day we walked around in the nearby Terrapin State Park and explored the island. We were there in March, and the usual Kent island riff raff were not to be found. In the evenings we sat under the stars in the hot tub and let the stress slough away. We basically had the run of the house, and although there was one other couple there, we never saw them except at breakfast. The grounds were amazing and at night a herd (15 or so) deer can be seen munching away on the grass. There was a pool, but it wasn't open when we were there. They have a gym and game room that we used once (Who goes to a B&B to use the gym?) What else can I say, for $160 a night (in the off season, you get a wonderful room overlooking the bay, a great breakfast and seclusion from the real world. If I was to conjure criticisms, I would say that the rooms had a bit too much potpourri for our taste and that some of the decor was on the Laura Ashley side, but that is really being picky. This is a real gem. NOTE: I was reluctant to post this review for one simple reason--people will go to and love this place and we'll never be able to book a room again. But we liked the owners so much that we figured that keeping it a secret wouldn't be fair. Let me be frank. I was hesitant because I've had mixed experiences with AirBNB but once we arrived, I was in love! Please note that the lady who previously owned this passed and a family purchased this. With that said, we had some quality time with one of the gentlemen who now own it. First off, a fantastic human Ken is. Second, he told us he and his sons have plans. It's not my place to speak to some of those plans but just know they will preserve this place and its history and love. At the time, the "breakfast" part is on hiatus. It's not a negative though. This area of New Castle is a gem of a place and to be in a house that is over 150 years old is phenomenal. You're not getting the Ritz. You might see some paint flaking. You might have something not work. The floors might creak. But!!! Stop for a moment and think of how many people have passed through that house. Now, Ken and his family have made the rooms cozy and inviting. Everything you need for a few days or a week or two! Our room was nautical which, being a former sailor, I loved! The bed was comfy and the bathroom was perfect -- though my wife would love huge area to put all of her stuff! No biggie though. You're in walking distance to extremely historical sites, great food, and Battery Park. I honestly want to give up everything and help them bringing this thing to the level they envision! Good luck, Ken and family. We will certainly be back!
