Needless to say I am extremely apprehensive about my hair. Tesha was warm, friendly, supportive, and professional. She doesn't push any agenda or make you feel "bad" about choosing a hairstyle that fits your lifestyle. Whether relaxed, natural, or extensions she will talk to you and explain each option and how it will work (or may be difficult) based on YOU (your hair texture, hair health, and lifestyle.) She is a former nurse with a specialized degree in hair loss and scalp health. I have had problems with Psoriasis on my scalp (which was why I went natural in the first place) so I felt extremely at ease and grateful that she has the medical background she does. Right away she explained my hair was actually as damaged as I thought (from a BKT in March. But that my hair was healthy, in need of a good trim, and was strong as evidence by little breaking or shedding. I expressed my need for a less time consuming style as a new wife and step-mother to three who now commutes 2.5 hours a day! Long story short Tesha cares about your hair/scalp being healthy and looking good. I liked her so much I canceled my other consults and have an appointment with her Wednesday. I will be sure to update after my appointment for a texturizer (relaxer 1/4 the normal strength), re-constructive treatment, cut, & style. UPDATE - 9/13/16: I received my treatment last week. Tesha, was on time and began on me right away, about 10 minutes early. While working the product through my hair I was surprised I had no burning at all. I had some very mild irritation as I was being washed out on my hairline (which I knew I had scratched that area the day before.) The product was not left on long and it was not "relaxed" bone straight. It has been almost a week and despite high humidity, working out 4 days, and not putting additional heat my hair has not reverted. I got 3-4 inches trimmed but think I will be back for a more layered asymmetrical cut (I love body and big hair!) I highly recommend Tesha, in fact I am setting up a consult for my 17 year-old step-daughter who is very wary of new stylists; she has only had her Uncle EVER touch her hair. I have a simple haircut that works for the shape of my head and deals with my cowlicks for years. I explained this in the consult and showed photo references several times to the hairstylist, and I should have recognised this pattern early because I told her I had just washed my hair like 2 hours prior so I don't need to do that again, and after the cape goes on she has me go over there and does it anyway. Zero listening or comprehension skills. Another creative way to describe the disaster is, it looks like I came in with vastly unrealistic expectations based on photo references that don't match the shape of my head - except all the photo references ARE OF MY OWN PAST HAIRCUTS DONE ON MY OWN HEAD. I opened with an ask for a trim and came out of this place looking like a drug addict from a trailer park. I'm too self-conscious and judgemental to tell in the salon (and what am I gonna do anyway, have them glue my messed up hair back on?) not to mention conflict-averse because at this point I've acquired serious anxiety with hairdressers from how many times I've had someone mess it up. To be specific, I had basic layering/tapering maintained here and my length was just getting a bit too heavy. I also have a previous haircut disaster that I'm trying to fix from when my last hairstylist insisted on cutting this godawful V-shaped taper in the back of my neck that destroyed my natural hairline - I made the hairstylist aware of this. She didn't do anything to it at all and it still is sticking out looking lazy and unkempt just as it did when I walked in. Is a hairdresser not able to comprehend the nuance of "hey the last person messed this up, but I don't want it to be sticking out either so just try to handle it to get it back to where it should be?" Whatever layering I had has been obliterated. I lost no hair on the back of my head and a ton off the top of my head, utterly destroying the sense of balance my hair created for my large cranium. The huge chunk of hair she hacked out of the front left side of my head makes it look like my hair is falling out! It looks God awful, I am horrified and ashamed to go outside because of what these people did to my hair. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE BUSINESSES THAT DO NOT RUN ON COMPETENCE OR COMMON SENSE. Avoid it like the Black Plague. I can throw $50 down the drain but I can't get my hair back to where it was. If I can't find a better place then I'm literally going to have to fly around the world to pay $20 to the random guy in Indonesia who did a good job six months ago. EDIT: The response to this review is more proof than the haircut that everything I said about this place is accurate and then some. FWIW, they did leave a voicemail and tried to ask if I could come back in so they could "fix it", which is not how haircuts work. No mention of refunds for the damage, no coupon, and no apology, so to think that was done in good faith is not reasonable. As for the personal attacks towards me running for federal office, yes, I ran precisely because there are too many people with money & power who are vicious, lying cowards and understood that Congress would be an excellent place to put that kind of thing out to pasture. Unfortunately, due to a medical condition, my MD told me it would not be a good idea for my scalp and may cause worsening problems. Keep in mind the product never left the salon. I called before the install date and explained that my doctor does not recommend this for me. The owner would not get on the phone to discuss the cancellation. She left all the discussion up to the receptionist, who had no clue what to do or say to me. The salon refused to send the extensions back to the manufacturer and insisted that I pay for the entire product. They tried to tell me that it was a special order. When, in fact, the order was out of the online catalog. They took $1000 from me and refused to refund my money. Now I am stuck with $1000 hair extensions that I can never use. The Salon did not demonstrate basic empathy or flexibility toward my medical situation. I will be contacting the state board of cosmetology as well as the state attorney general/consumer office to fight this wrong. For these reasons, I do not recommend this salon. They only want your money and don't really care about your situation or self-esteem. I am sorry to leave my stylist; she was wonderful.

I came to Raleigh to visit my family for Christmas wearing the worst wig on God's green Earth. My mother made me feel self conscious about my wig, but I was even more self conscious about my hair. So at 9am on Christmas Eve I hit yelp and try to find an affordable ethnic hair cut. Miss Cynthia answered my call. I said "do you take walkins or do I need to make an appointment?" She said "well what time were you wanting to walk in?" I said "Now." She sounded surprised, but told me to come on down. I explained to her my plight; she cut my hair, washed it and I'm currently sitting under a dryer. Miss Cynthia is such a sweet lady and while I was talking to her, I mentioned my husband is in the army and that's why we relocated - so, she gave me a little bit of a discount and told me to thank my husband for his service. Now, I'm not the person who goes around looking for military discounts- frankly, I don't even like to use coupons, but I thought that was sweet. $50 for cut, wash and style isn't too bad at all!! Like I said, I'm under the dryer right now, so I haven't seen my hair, but I believe I'm going to love it about as much as anyone can love their first super short hair cut/style. I sent text telling Patricia what hair services I wanted and asked about the cost. Patricia told me that when my hair appointment is scheduled, the system will send a notification which will include cost estimate. She also stated that she cannot do a phone quote on what she doesn't know what she is looking at. I asked Patricia if I come in at 6:00 a.m. will she be finished by 10:00 a.m. as I had an appointment in North Raleigh. She stated yes. I was told by the stylist (who is also general manager) not to worry about paying and took me outside to discuss how she felt uncomfortable that I was less talkative and what we're going to do about it. I sternly told her to just cancel all my future appointments (I was scheduled for every three weeks for years down the road). I was so pissed that now I needed to worry about her feelings, when she needed to simply cut my hair....That's it. So, this is how I was treated when she had cut my hair for so long.
