Being a person who loves a good road trip and has been to many of the states, this isn't my favorite gas station, but Loves Travel Centers definitely has a special place in my heart. While I would consider this spot average, I will continue to stop here once to twice a year when needed.

I go out of my way to take my car here just so save the $1.50 or whatever I would pay somewhere else. I haven't bought a monthly car wash ticket yet, only the single ones but I have to say that I'm satisfied with the washes. Yes I can wash it myself more effectively but I don't do it in less than 5 minutes. The South Town location doesn't have as sophisticated of a setup as the other locations around town, but the wash quality is the same. The in-store experience is pretty nice. It's a larger than average store and they have your run of the mill goods. They serve Tim Horton's coffee which is small step above what you get across the street at speedway. My one area of critique is how the pumps are arranged. This isn't the biggest gas station lot and it pays for it with the layout of the pumps. Still better than the Speedway across the street but it is a bit of a hassle none the less.

Review for Johnny's Shell - Michigan St. & Fuller Ave., Grand Rapids, MI…read more I rarely write negative reviews, but my experience at this location deserves to be shared. My wife and I are currently homeless, and on the day in question, the heat index was near 90 degrees. I went into Johnny's Shell initially just to use the restroom. After that, I returned to my van to get two bowls so I could fill them with hot water for instant noodles. On my second trip inside, I politely spoke with two very kind employees who treated me with respect. After filling the bowls with hot water, I realized I needed to make two trips to carry everything back out. On my third trip, I went in to fill my two Yeti cups with ice water. At that point, an employee named Ms. Sheila told me, "I can't keep you coming in and out of the store to get water." I replied, "Ma'am, it's 90 degrees outside, but I won't come back for water," and started to leave. I did, however, return briefly to wash my forks in the restroom and informed Ms. Sheila of my intent. Moments later, another employee, a white woman named Sabre, aggressively pounded on the bathroom door and yelled, "You need to leave." The pounding startled me so badly that my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. When I stepped out, she loudly repeated, "You need to leave -- my cashier said..." I asked why, since I had been respectful, gentle, and kind the entire time, as I almost always am. As I moved toward the door, Sabre made a gesture as if she were about to call the police. I told her I had done nothing disrespectful and could not understand why I was being treated this way. No one should be made to feel unsafe, targeted, or humiliated for simply trying to meet basic needs, especially when they've been polite and transparent about their actions. While I want to commend the two employees who treated me with kindness, my overall experience left me feeling disrespected, singled out, and unwelcome. Businesses have every right to set policies, but there is never an excuse for aggression or intimidation toward customers -- especially those already in a vulnerable situation.

David literally knew every customer by name, he ran out a washed the window of an elderly customer while they were gassing up. I couldn't believe the quality of the service. My inspection was finished and I was walking around the area. Mary called and said there were some thing they had to show me. I quickly returned to the shop. Al the mechanic had printed out a inspection report and went over all items explaining costs, conditions and conclusions. I left the garage feeling informed, educated and happy to see that real customer service is alive at Weatside.

Being full-service means you drive your car up to the car wash, then disembark, and the staff takes it from there. You can follow your car through the wash, looking at it through windows from a comfortable walkway. At the end you'll end up in a small auto shop with the cashier. There you can buy air fresheners and other auto maintenance products. Meanwhile, your car's wash ends with a towel dry by the staff and your car is waiting for you at the exit. Overall, it's an interesting experience and generally gets your car much cleaner than a common coin-operated automated carwash. Pricing is a bit high, but for the service you get, it's reasonable.
